I'm intrigued as to how well the motion controllers actually work, but it does seem to be just another mediocre collection of Sega games packaged with a standard mini-game waggle fest that we see so much of on the Wii.

Pongs of the modern age. Eh it's just another plug-n-play like the Atari Flashback.

This is not made by AtGames, right? *prays*

I would imagine the "motion controls" would be rather simplistic. I do find it interesting that the controllers feature more buttons than a Wii remote. They actually look kinda neat but no telling how hard it would be to play a game with that thing.

That looks like that crappy $30 Wii knockoff they sell at CVS pharmacy.

Eh, appears to be the same developer in fact. Zone40, Zone Sega, whatever.

Damn it, why can't they release a Dreamcast clone?
Someone, tell YOBO or the guys who made the RetroDuo!

Screw that, we still need an SMS clone with a cart port! Not that little Coleco thing!

Is this merely licensed or is Sega actually launching this thing? All reports seem to say that "Sega" is launching it.
I don't see it anywhere mentioned on sega.com, but if Sega actually posts it on their official website then I will buy it. If they are merely receiving licensing fees for the unit then i'll pass. I mean sure they get money for licensing the games, but they already will have received that money, but if they are footing the bill to make the units, then i'll support it in hopes of more Sega "consoles". :D

The box says its an "Official SEGA Licensed Product."

So does that mean that Sega just sold someone else a license to slap their logo on it? That's the question. Happens all the time when comapnies go under.

This console reminds me of a nasty Wii Knockoff called 'The Zone'. Anybody seen this?

Post 5 above. And looking closer at the controller. It actually does say Zone across the top.

I love how Sega hands out licenses for these knockoffs but disavows knowledge of these products.
Nowhere on Sega.com is this product even mentioned.
These knockoff companies surely can't be rolling in money. Unless Sega is so devalued that its pretty cheap to get a license.
If i wanted to make a toaster with a Sega logo on it, I bet Sega would let me do it.

It would be cool if it was compatible with the Sega Activator, imagine using that while using the handheld motion controllers.

If you do I'll consider buying one from you. Having a toaster with Sega across the side would be awesome.

At least it does say it takes old Sega carts....

No, that's another system that came out last year. The article mentions it near the end with a link to it, but the new one that has motion controls can't have any games added.
Here's the link for the system that accepts older carts;

I'm thinking the motion controls are just for the lame built in golf game and whatnot. And probably not too responsive either.

It's really not too different from back in the day. Think of all the officially licensed Genesis clones out there. Granted, those were much more interesting for various reasons but the basic premise is the same.
Though this has generated my interest because now it's going to be a struggle to determine which clones are "official" and which aren't. Any guesses?

Is this gonna get a release in the states, and will it be exclusive to specialty shops and online? Wonder if the big box stores carry this one?

Is Sega really devalued, or do they just like supporting smaller companies? It seems like Sega is handing out licenses more out of generosity lately.

What is it with Sega and allowing other companies to hump their games from the glory days of the Genesis?

Actually when I get the license to make the toaster, I will be sure to include Master System cartridge and card slots and a Genesis cartridge slot, and what the heck a 32X slot ,throw in Hdmi input and we are set.
Just be extremely careful not to put your cartridges in the toaster slot.

Screw that. All you need to do is make the toaster portion in the shape of Sonic bro.
I would buy the shit out of a Sega toaster that made Sonic toast!

The can't get a Sonic game right, much less a console.

Sega has fallen off the bus. Instead of making quality products, they have increasingly hoared out themselves to cash in rather than make quality products. Dont get me wrong, I am as many know a huge Sega fan...but even I have to admit that they have just gone south. For every right decision that they make, they make four bad decisons to go along with it. With all this sad news, I think I will go play on my orginal Genesis and remember when Sega was kicking ass and taking names...not licensing crap like this.

This is obviously an AtGames product, the menu and it appears the games are exactly the same as on the FireCore, GenCore, and GenMobile.

It's just one of those "Zone" systems that are sold for $20 at CVS, with the exact same 20 Sega games that are also on the Firecore/GenMobile, and with a Sega sticker slapped on for a higher price...

So those Zone things are just a mega drive clone?

No, they took one of these:

...and slapped on the games from the Genesis/Mega Drive Firecore clones.

What I was asking was whether these Zone things use some sort of megadrive-on-a-chip.

This just makes me sad. How could such a giant come to rereleasing (constantly) their 22 year-old system? They will never rise again (sob).
