got one word for ya "WICO" although you're outta luck with the INTV, most models do not have removable controllers..i think theres some sort of stick on joy stick thing out there though. wico makes the 5200 playable, period.

For the 5200, the most common and least expensive alternative controller is the Wico Command Control joystick, which is analog and self-centering. If you get one, make sure you get the Y-cable that is supposed to go with it, too, because you still want to plug in a standard controller for start, pause, reset, and number pad.

You need a pair of Super Action controllers for the CV. Trust me, they are worth every penny that you will spend on them.

IF they work. Make sure of that before you buy any!

Ok, I have a few questions.

Where do you buy those controllers, is anyone selling them new?

Also, has anyone give it any thought to creating an adaptor that would allow an Atari Jaguar controller to be used instead? It has all the number buttons and stuff.. the only thing it is lacking is the analog for the 5200..

Just curious!

Generally, no. But you might get lucky and find some "new old stock" auctions on ebay every once in a while.

Good pic of the snap on Intellivision joystick here: http://www.fatmangames.com/systems/browsesystem.asp?SystemID=44&btnsubmit=Go

I've heard using them for an extended period of time can wear out your controller faster than normal. It's useful in some games (Lock n' Chase for example), debatable with others. It adds in a certain amount of unresponsiveness that you probably won't like.

There's also the MasterPlay interface for 5200, too. You might want to look into that. I believe it lets you use standard 2600 sticks with the 5200.

As far as where to get this stuff, if you can't find it in the wild, then you'll probably end up at ebay. Sealed Wico 5200 sticks would be a find indeed.

Oh, and there's an interesting product in the works here, the MasterControl:

I just hope that he still plans to make it, as September 2002 has come and gone without a peep. It looks great and I'd buy one or two, but as far as I know it's still vaporware.

Our forum member Mike Etler has these in stock, brand new. You can find his website at http://www.videogameconnections.com

My website has either schematics or links to schematics for building genesis controller adapters for all three of those systems. I also came up with a circuit to use a PSX dual shock controller for a dual genesis which means I can play all my classic systems with psx analog sticks. The games really rock, especially 5200 Space Dungeon.

John: neat-ass site right there. If i ever get (lucky enough to have) a spare 5200 and 7800, and the balls, I'd love to try that Atari hybrid you have on there. And the Atari-in-a-Dreamcast-controller... I dunno, maybe I'm easily impressed but the whole site seems awesome.
