View Full Version : How big is your backlog? (Percentage of games played/finished)

So after downsizing my collection over the past couple years, I've recently started acquiring more and more games. Not sure if it is the economy and the apparant abundance of seemingly good deals out there...or maybe the plethora of quality titles being released lately.
Regardless, I stepped back the otherday and guesstimated that of the games I now own, I have probably played about 10% and of those maybe finished about 2%.
Granted I have sold off many of my vintage and older titles and systems (of which I probably played and finished a considerable amount).
So what does your percentage look like?

I think my backlog is anywhere from 50-70% unplayed or unfinished. :help:
Simply because I'm working most of the week and don't have enough time to play, and because I currently have the Saturn, NES and SNES pulled out/hooked up and most of those unplayed games are on PS1/PS2. And I don't currently feel like pulling the PS2 out of storage and hooking it up alongside 3-4 other sets of cables.
My backlog is probably smaller than ever, with something like 50% uncompleted and about 1% unplayed.
That's not due to more playing, but less buying. I don't think I've bought a game so far this year, so...

Work has been stealing a lot of my game-time recently, so my backlog has grown to extremes.
Seeing as I haven't counted my games in years, I'd take a guess at 2% finished, 10% played and the last 88% unplayed.
Man, I'm looking forward to two weeks vacation :D

78% unbeaten, 22% beaten. I've actually gotten quite a bit better since I joined backloggery (started at 83% unbeaten), but it would still take me 7 years to beat my remaining games (assuming I stopped urchasing cold turkey).

Hm Pretty good actually, I played, and beat pretty much all my games at one time or another.

Right now I'm playing through every Metroid. To get the most of the experience of these games, I like to walk around, explore, and collect every item without walkthroughs (unless I get stuck). It has gotten me behind, and the other games are stacking up.
I would estimate that I have not finished (or played to the full extent of my enjoyment) about 95% of my collection.
I don't regret this though. It is somewhat pleasing to know that I'll have enough games to play until retirement.

I'm probably at about 2-5% completed. I have save files at the final boss for a few RPGs which would classify them as uncompleted (Xenogears comes to mind).
I think I've played 95% of my games, but many not more than 15-20 minutes.
It is somewhat pleasing to know that I'll have enough games to play until retirement.
That's why I constantly have to stop myself from buying a new game. I have plenty that I could play as a new(ish) experience without spending a dime.

Since I try and focus on games with high re-playability, my ratio from a beaten/unbeaten perspective would not illustrate much of worth. From a untouched/touched/molested perspective... I'd say the ratio is ~ 1:6:3.

88.1% unfinished according my backloggery :(

This is only an estimation but i would say about 65 percent uncompleted at least, but maximum 10 percent unplayed

Ugh, I have no clue. I've going through modern titles right now (spent the most cash on them) but I know there are a LOT of pre-360/PS3/Wii games I haven't touched or lightly played I haven't gone back to yet.

probably at 90% unbeaten and 60% unplayed, as i have in excess of 300 360 games and only a 29,000 gamerscore id say its accurate.

Just a quick glance at my collection:
About 80 beatable Xbox games (non beatable are sports games, compilations, etc) - 100% beaten about 6 of them, at least started all but five or so.
About 30 beatable N64 games - haven't beaten any, haven't started most.
Playstation 1 - don't even go there.
Playstation 2 - about five unbeaten games.
Virtual Boy - the same.
Xbox 360 - Out of 30 games or so, beaten only four or so, not including XBLA games.
So in my whole collection I have only beaten about 5% of my games, haven't even started about 15%.

Beauty of "retiring from buying games" is this:
Backlog can't increase, it can only decrease ;)

I pretty much *NEVER* beat games.
I think I just have a short attention span.
Usually the kind of games I play are Puzzle, 1v1 fighters, music games, etc
The kind of stuff you can't really "beat". I've put countless hours into Capcom VS SNK 2, Rock Band, Crash Team Racing,
I just don't have alot of patience for story-based and linear games.
So when I say I beat a game, that means I REALLY REALLY liked it.
So as far as I can think, this is an inclusive list of every post 16-bit game I've beaten:
(this is out of a library of around 3000 titles or so)
Seaman DC
Pikmin GC
Megaman X4 and X5 PS1
Castlevania SoTN PS1
Threads of Fate PS1
Brave Fencer Musashi PS1
Parappa PS1
Astroboy GBA
Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga GBA
Shining Soul 2 GBA
Feel the Magic DS
Sprung DS ..not sure why I went out of my way for this one...
Trace Memory DS
Locoroco PSP
Me and My Katamari PSP
Yoshi's Story N64
Mark of Kri PS2
Shadow of Destiny PS2
Ratchet & Clank PS2
Champions of Norrath 1&2 PS2
Gitarooman PS2
Katamari Damacy PS2
Rez PS2
Way of the Samurai PS2
Jade Empire Xbox
Breakdown Xbox
Halo 1&2 Xbox
Fable Xbox
Armed and Dangerous Xbox
I think the other problem is, I only play a bit at a time, and I have a hard time remembering where I left off when I pick up a game a few days or weeks later. So unless a game can captivate me all the way through (which almost never happens) It doesn't get done. Even games I loved, I never ended up beating (God of War, Shenmue, every handheld Kirby, Pokemon and Castlevania game, Shadow of the Colossus, etc etc.)

Few hundred games... played them all except the "sealeds", beaten maybe 5?
Enjoying video games doesn't mean I'm necessarily any good at them...

I've beaten perhaps about 15% or so of the games I have. I play mainly for the entertainment I get just interacting in a game-world, not so much for the accomplishment of a specific goal within a game (guess that makes me a 'casual gamer'??). I have a handful of computer games I have not -nor can I- play unless I track down the Win98 drivers and 2 Xbox games I haven't played for whatever reason (Shenmue 2 and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath). So I've played about 98% of my collection.

Bananas All I can do right now is power up and let the game run at the title screen. LOL Ahh but the memories I will beat them all one day when my sweet sixteen comes home.

I think this is a pretty interesting question. To add to the discussion: What do you consider your backlog? I don't think I will ever play through a game like Barbie (NES) or Unlimited Saga (PS2). And these are just two random games from my 600ish game collection. I can't imagine how many similar games people have in their 3000+ collections. Not that these games are unplayable or unbeatable, but I think I would choose even games I have beaten before I bother playing them.
And as others have said...what do you do with games like sports games and fighting games, etc.? Each one has a mode that you can play through and beat, but that hardly constitutes the bulk of the gameplay the game has to offer.

There was another thread like this awhile ago. Since then my backlog has expanded, especially with next gen titles. Of my total 600-800 games, I probably still haven't played atleast 300-500 of them. And of the 300 I have played I've only beaten about 100-150 of them.

According to my backloggery, I have 55.6% that are unbeaten. That's a lot better than I would have guessed, to be completely honest.

I actually looked into this with a few systems not long ago. I mean, if you want to talk played at all, then I've played nearly 100% of my collection, mostly just leaving out the games I don't have systems for yet.
But in terms of putting a significant amount of time into a game (more than the 30-60 minutes tops I put in when trying something out), then that's a whole different matter. I, by far, have the best completion rate for my Game Boy and Game Boy Color collections, probably at around 95% since I've almost beaten all of them. I actually set out with that goal, though, so it sort of doesn't count.
Now for everything else, I find my best completion rates are around 30% at the most. SNES is probably the best because it's the system that's remained in my possession for the longest amount of time, I have the advantage of beating many of its games as a kid back when options were slim, and I've yet to really make any strong effort to collect for it so the total is still relatively small and my quality to quantity ratio is good.
Now with the systems I bought later on and have amassed many games for, forget about it. I recently counted up the number of games I've beaten on PlayStation, and it came to about 15, and this is out of 200+ games owned.
I've downsized greatly the past few yrs, so you'd think my percentage played would increase, but kids came along & sucked up my free time, so the ratio has more or less stayed the same. My main playtime is Fridays & an hour or 2 early mornings after work, but I'm usually too tired.
I did enjoy a nice PS2 Fatal Frame session today, & upon shutting down, I thought "well, there goes THAT game til next Friday".
I also try to play games where I can only progress/go forward; that is, my time/turn moves me closer to the game's end, not games where I can spend an hour getting somewhere & one wrong move makes it all for nothing. I cant afford wasting time like that.

I'm sure it looks worse when I do the math.

I don't have a HUGE collection, but it is getting bigger with less games played any amount of time. I'm just about to order two more wii games and right now i'm downloading some dreamcast games. Although the dreamcast games are for a friends and will get some play being things like sega rally...
I'm too scared to actually work out any facts and figures though...

I always feel better when I read these types of threads. LOL
When I buy a game generally I sink several minutes to an hour of game play in, so maybe 90% have at least been played to some degree. Roughly 5% of my games have received an extended amount of time with under 2% beaten. I stopped counting how many games I have, but a few years back it exceeded 1000. I believe I broke the 1000 vinyl records count last summer so maybe I'll actually get around to organizing and getting better figures down on stuff later this year.

Something like 80-90% uncompleted.
At least half of that must be unstarted, I assume.

It's probably half and half now. When I was still collecting it was more like 90% unfinished and 10% finished.
