The Phantom console with many more naysayers than followers is looking for a whopping 100-300 beta testers. Bring your resume and expect a full questionnaire, including your gaming habits, annual income, preferences and sexual orientation to here:http://www.phantom.net/beta.html.

You will be notified in October if you meet their somewhat stringent criteria. If you do, you may have access to up to 1000 shareware games of your choice for immediate download. Good luck!

For the record, Phantom blows. And not in a pretty hooker kind of way. In a toothless crackhead kind of way.

I went to their booth at E3 and couldn't get any answers out of them. They were too busy talking to each other and eating chips to be bothered with things like 'customers' and 'buyers'.

Their pamphlet, however, stated that the phantom, because it was running at a much lower resolution (640x480) for TV, wouldn't need a top of the line video card to play games. ok, that's fine, maybe they'll drop in a GF3 or radeon 7000 or something. NO. They said initial models will be using Intel's own i845 integrated graphics chipset. To give you an idea of the performance of this bad boy, in 3Dmark 2001 (itself a 2 year old utility: I couldn't find anything newer that even had the i845 tested), it scored HALF as well as the GForce2, churning out a barely passable 37 fps on the demo screens!

The demo they had up was running some year old basketball game on the TV, and the basketball game was chugging along at about 20-25 frames per second.

I really hope they up the capabilities of this system.

Well, I'm glad to hear it's a grafix powerhouse! Not!

And WTF? Why do they want my resume?
