Sardius has finally finished his detailed look at the Johnny Turbo comics printed in EGM and GamePro ten years ago. I urge you to read this... it's the most hilarious thing I've seen in months.

And now we see why my favorite system crashed and burned in a horrible flaming death. I want to know who authorized this and have them summarily beaten.

Hilarious indeed, and that photograph at the article's end sets things up for another interesting chapter. One of my friends swears that he once saw a TV news interview with a TTI employee who looked like Johnny Turbo. This, of course, raises a disturbing question: if there's a real-life Johnny Turbo, is there also a real-life Tony?

Johnny Turbo is indeed based on a real-life TTI employee named Jonathan Brandstetter. I'm trying to find out whatever happened to Mr. Brandstetter, and if he's still in the industry. No idea about Tony, however.

EDIT: Johnny Turbo is still in the game biz; he and his father run a development studio called FTD Games, which has a horrendous website at http://www.ftdgames.com.

Very thorough, and some nice quotes here and there. "The NES used a 6502 CPU! ADMIT IT! *blam*" LOL Gets very disturbing at the end, though.

Those guys look familiar... Has anyone here seen that anime series, Gate Keepers?

Wow, I don't know whether I should be glad that you guys like the article, or terrified that the Johnny Turbo virus is spreading. Maybe a little of both. Seriously though, thanks for the compliments, guys.

Yes, there IS a real Tony. Not only does he exist, but one of my informants actually referred to him as Johnny's "counterpart" in one of his emails. Infer what you will from that particular use of vocabulary.

I also stumbled across FTD's site during my research (So Johnny Turbo had a hand in creating Time Crisis: Project Titan? That explains so much!), but I didn't notice that the company was headed by JT and his DAD. That's fairly disturbing for a number of reasons. I wish I could find some contact information for Mr. Brandstetter, though...there's a few questions I want to ask him. Chief among which is, "WHY?"

I'm going to keep drinking beer and eating fast food heavily until October....so I can be Johnny Turbo for Halloween.

Do you think Johnny Turbo could beat Atariman (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12430)? Or would Atariman be able to reflect those deadly "ZARK!" beams?
