God Of War Collection for the PS3

I just picked up god of war collection for the ps3 yesterday and the game is fucking sweet. cant wait to play god of war 2. i am playing GOW1 on hard mode and it is somewhat challenging.

it feels like the game is turning into alot of button mashing, but it does force me to button mash different combos because certain combos work better on certain enemies. nice design by the developers.

there is one combo i find to be devastating, which is the hold L1 + X, which hits them in the air, and then hit L1 + X again in the air and it rapes!

Any thoughts?

Just played through this for the first time last week and really enjoyed it. Haven't decided if I'm going to go back and try God mode; I never died in combat during my first playthrough so I don't think I'll have too much problem.

Another nice move is the Lance of the Furies (received with lvl 5 upgrade). Just hold down circle and you'll clear the area around you. Works great while in the air.

I think I played on normal, I don't remember changing the setting. The only things in the game that I found to be difficult were the spike floor puzzle, balancing on the beams with the rotating blades, and the Challenge of the Gods.

yea, that sounds right. I consider myself an above average gamer and i am playing on hard mode now and i have already died about 20 times and i just finished the town square in Athens. I woulda been seriously impressed :)

I've played on normal and when it comes to losing all health, I don't think I died once. However, the underworld with the spinning blades which Oobgarm mentioned I did die quite a few times, mainly due to the part being just stupid and I started rushing it.

update on this game...

i am about 3/4 of the way done GOW2 and i constantly use one attack for both games, s,t,t,t. it is honestly the best move in the game.

it bugs me because it is sooo useful that i dont even use the other sub weapons the game offers, aka the spear and hammer. i guess i will use them if i decide to play through the game a couple times.

Tx3 is the best in the game. Tx3, STx3, and Sx5T etc all have the same finisher. Sx2T is quickest and most used for me even though weaker.

Game bores me though because the battle system is so repetitive as nothing is really useful other than a couple of attacks.

I'm the exact opposite, I didn't really like the first GOW and it thought GOW2 improved on almost everything that I thought was wrong with the first. I still have no real interest in GOW3 tho.

After playing the GoW 3 demo, I decided to play through parts 1 & 2 again. Even 5 years later, I still think part 1 (as well as part 2 obviously) is a beautiful looking game....

As for the PS3 collection, I dont know. I have seen comparison videos and it looks very nice...but not THAT much different. Some cleaned up textures in game, constant 60fps but some of the colors also looked washed out now...

The visuals are much smoother and definetely look and run better, none of that screen tearing that plagued the PS2 version.

I would say yes they are worth getting for the visual improvement, but the main thing I like is that each game has a set of trophies to obtain, two platinums on one disc. Unfortunately the bonus content is still in SD, but I really didn't expect that to be otherwise.

It's dropped to 29.99 fairly quickly so I think even at that price it's definitely worth it. You could always wait for 19.99 or so. The 720p makes a slight but noticeable difference in comparison to playing it upscaled to 1080p using the PS2 discs. If you dont have a BC PS3 and playing GoW 1 and 2 on a PS2, then you're going to be playing it in 480 which means that the PS3 version is definitely worth getting.

I also thought the first was better. The second one Kratos when attacking and moving everything was much smoother and the graphics were amazing. In the GoW, attacks were actually useful as they actually took decent damage off and weren't overly slow to were you never used more than a couple attacks.

You know I still haven't played any of the games in this series but I've really been meaning to. Having only a 360 and Wii certainly isn't helping. Don't have a PS2 either.

I swear I'm going to get around to these one day, seems like the reviews are almost always positive. Definitely on my list of games to play sometime this year.

they are definitely worth getting. i think kratos is so freakin cool too. he is definitely one of my favorite video game characters to play. i also love the setting, sparta vs. greece. and the gods are awesome. very cool setting.
