I've just moved to LA and am curious as to whether Japan Video Games is worth checking out in person. I've been to Game Dude in North Hollywood and was wondering how Japan Video Games stacks up. I only know about them online through their site but was wondering if the store is all that. If anyone here has actually been to the store please post your thoughts and comments. I'd appreciate it.

I would highly recommend not driving out to Japan Video Games. The store is tiny and the prices are very, very high. In fact, they don't honor their website prices in store. More importantly, the selection is very poor and the entire store has a glass front, so many of the games on display have sunfading. I used to visit the store regularly in the Neo Geo CD days as they were the only SNK authorized vendor in LA, but I went a few months ago and it was really disappointing. You are much better off buying from Game Dude or driving down to Fullerton and going to Games 4 Less or even Gamequest in Santa Ana.

Dont know what bojay is talking about . I drive from san diego and its worth it for me since i like import stuff . there is nothing in the front window except plushes and posters. i used to have pics but lost them. I have bough a bunch of stuff from the store. I also like just checking out game dude for the heck of it as they had more retro consoles
this is about what they have
1 glass cabinet (3 shelves) of x360 na & jpn
3 glass cabs of import ps2 games
1 glass of na ps2 games ( they have a few ps1 games in there as well
1 glass cab of special editon ps2 stuff and ps3
2 glass cabs of ds lite stuff
2 glass cabs of psp stuff
1 spinney thing of mostly cheap saturn games
on the walls they 4 neo geo aes games ~15 assortment of ps2/3/360 fighting sticks, afew dj hero and the beatmania controllers a few import ps2 360 and ps3's
they have a used import box as well ( all be it small)
if you like import stuff its worth the drive is what i'd say.

I'm sorry, but comparing Japan Video Games to Gamedude is like comparing a cell phone kiosk in the mall to Best Buy. Japan Video Games has a very limited selection and as of my last visit there, many of the games were sunfaded since the front of the store is just glass and gets hit directly by the sun every afternoon. I'm not sure what you're buying there, but even with shipping, you can get everything they have in stock at NCSX for about 15-20% less.
