I like my Jaguar quite a bit but that d-pad kills my thumb; the buttons aren't amazing either. Has anyone ever modded the Jag pad? If any controller screamed for a mod it's that one!

I would imagine that you are using the original 3-button (plus keypad of course) Jag pad. The best alternative is the Pro Controller. They are on the rare/expensive side as you are probably well aware, but they are also a definite improvement over the original pads (and not just because of the extra buttons). I've never heard of someone modding a Jag pad for anything other than a spinner for T2K personally, but I could be wrong of course.

Wow, I've never heard of the pro pad, but admit I'm only a casual fan. I see one on ebay brand new for $75, which isn't awful when compared to PS2 Saturn pads. So it's worth getting one? The d-pad looks better and the buttons are too.

Thanks!

Yeah, you should definitely give the Pro Pad a try if you can find one. I lucked out and got a new one BIN on ebay for $30 about a year ago. You might be able to get one for cheaper than that $75, but you will probably have to be patient because they don't show up very often.

Quick note on the Pro Controller. For Doom & Wolfenstein 3D, the Pro Pad does NOT allow for strafing with the L & R buttons, so there is still no circle strafing. It may not be $70 awesome, but it definitely has better buttons. The fighters all play better with it too. That said, a Chaos Reigns, or other spinner-modded pad is a better way to spend that kind of money (IMHO of course). Tempest 2000 with a spinner is simply incredible.
