NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend.

Previously at NAVA...

- Attendees got their groove on playing head-to-head DJ Hero.
- The 6pm tournament was Bomberman, where some unexpected competition arose.
- The store was visited by a strange military figure with many props.
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
- Pictures tell it best:

January's gathering was a FULL HOUSE. People get a little stir-crazy in the winter, so we're expecting a pretty big turnout again in February. As such, I'd like to once again encourage being a PART of the event, not just a spectator - bring game items to sell or trade, or bring snacks or drink. Years of doing this has proven that the more everyone gets into the team spirit of it all, the better it is!

Though we've been doing this unofficially for a long time, a new NAVA tradition will begin this month: an arcade high score contest. One game on our arcade cabinet will be chosen for each event. That game will be set up for FREE PLAY. The person who logs in the highest score for the day (by 8pm) will win a special prize selected from my own personal collection and will be added to a new "house champion" tournament plaque for the Wall of Fame located just above the arcade section of the store. So, seeing as we're hosting a Capcom-themed event, the game this month will be Mercs. Get your practicing in now so you can put the high score up on the 27th!

Many requests for a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom tournament, so we'll run with it. We've been playing the Japanese version for many months but apparently the US version has really got everyone hooked. Both will be available for play but we'll run the tourney using the US version. We'll kick it off at 6pm but you should be there by 5 to sign up. We'll charge a nominal $5 entry fee with the winner getting half the cut and the rest going to the pizza pool. Feel free to bring your own controllers but modded controllers will not be allowed.

Get your trade boxes in order. Get your game face on. It's THAT time again!

When: Saturday, February 27th, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Extra game stations are set up around the store. Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

We'll be there with Wii arcade stick in hand. Still learning TvC, but maybe I'll take the next 2 weeks to learn a bit.

Btw, I'll bring my 360 arcade stick as well if anyone wants to go a few rounds in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 if Joe has the 360 set up. Probably best to do it before the store gets too busy though.

Sounds like this is going to be a fun NAVA! If the store Wii does not have all the characters unlocked in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for the tourney, I can gladly bring mine because they're all unlocked. Just let me know beforehand!

Looking forward to NAVA this month.

LOVE that idea. We should definitely have MvC2 running at an event like this. I'd also like to see if there are any players who come anywhere near your skills. I've heard a great game talked by many but it's still your name up on that wall. Perhaps a mini-tourney to challenge your spot? You make the rules!

Looks like we're going to have some good competition this month, looks like I best start playing Tatsunoko like crazy!

I'm debating to either bring my GC controller or Tatsunoko fight stick, but I think I will be going with the GC controller since I have been using that more, I'll get all confused if I start training with the fight stick now.

Also Joe, to my last reply, Wii or no Wii?

Our system is modded and I think it has cheats installed, which means I should be able to unlock everything. I'll try it this week and let you know if I'll need your unlocked Wii. Alternately, couldn't you put the save on an SD card and we could just transfer that over?

I'll be game for something like that. Maybe best of 3 challenges?

What do you mean?

I'm thinking we just have a half-hour long scheduled thing (so your whole day isn't shot) where anyone can just walk up and play you. Are you suggesting anyone who beats you 3 times out of 5 gets to be called "house champion"?

Sounds like Color of Money.

I like the Arcade contest.

Exactly, just beat me 2 times out of 3.

Now THAT'S a challenge. As much as I love Marvel vs. Capcom I don't think I can't compete up with your skills from what I've heard, but it's a video game so it's all about good fun. See you there!

Best of 3... no chance someone could get lucky in just 2 games? When we hold fighting game tournaments the final round is best of 5 just to be sure. It's YOUR championship though, however you want to do it is OK with me!

Now see, I'd LIKE to reply with:

"Aw, gee, I'd clean up here, and kick your butt all over the store in an MvC contest, but regrettably I can't make it, as Purim starts Saturday evening and I'll be busy with my kids at our synagogue. I guess you lucked out...."

But in REALITY, I'm not even qualified to be called a button-masher when it comes to fighting games.

If I can make it to NAVA this month, it will be early in the afternoon I think.

Guess we'll have to do the MvsC2 event early in the afternoon then. Wouldn't want you to miss it... it *could* be your second plaque on the wall after all.

Joe, you set up the first tournament and it's your store after all. However you want to do it is cool with me. :)

I'll be there early (1pm-2pm ish) and then I'll stay until after the TvC tourney (Achi will likely drive seperately if she comes).

Whoo, this is gonna be one kick ass NAVA! I missed the past few NAVA's due to some personal obligations, but this time I will be there, and best of all I will finally be able to stay as long as possible, it's a Saturday so no work for me:p

I hope it really doesn't turn out to snow until Saturday, or our ride there is cancelled. So until that day, I'm unsure about my attendance! we'll have to see.

I should have myself shoveled out by noon tomorrow so I should still be good. Achi won't be able to make it though.

Okay it looks like Dylan won't be able to make it so I can bring my Wii with a U.S copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom if you all wish. I haven't unlocked any characters yet but I may be able to do that tonight since I will be up all night after the extended nap I just took. I will also bring my copies of Mushiema-sama Futari and Espgaluda II for the 360 tomorrow assuming I get the latter in the mail by tomorrow which I should.

Another great NAVA, I'm happy I was able to make it to two in a row! :) It was great seeing you all again. Picked up some cool little things in the free box and bought an original Xbox controller and an AV cable.

I stared in Chris's currently untitled video masterpiece made by his GameBoy Camera and I witnessed an awesome tournament toward the end of the evening. It was a fantastic night and I hope you all had as much fun as I did. :)

Here are some photos from the event, I have some videos, I'll be adding them later on: http://gallery.me.com/ibook238/100501 Enjoy! :D

Did "The Wizard 2" (Mark I think it was?) win the tournament? I really hope he did.

Unfortunately "The Beast" lost in the semifinals. But the good news is that his older brother took the gold. I seriously hope they both come back again. I've never seen the crowd so fired up. That was the best tournament ever.

It was fun nonetheless..I never caught the opportunity to win something in the Feb NAVA meeting to begin with. I'm just surprised that I made it to the finals against the brother of "The Beast" and gave it all I had. I told their dad that it was a pleasure playing with them, and I really didn't know any combos until I figured them out only hours before the 6pm tournament. So, all in all I did a pretty decent job making the crowd hype until the semis/ grand finals (best of 5)...I don't know if I'll continue playing TvC, however, should any other game come out of the blue, I'll simply do my best as usual...

I look forward to the next NAVA, and hopefully some more fighting tournies down the road in Digital Press. Thanks to all who organized it.
