are you talking hell or hell difficulty? i've only had one character strong enough to hack it in hell (hell): my poor bg/im necro who got severely nerfed in the 1.1 patch. my next strongest character is a lvl 52 pally stuck in hell (nm) because of a combo of poor resists/def.

that's always the tradeoff in those difficulties: piling on resists and defense with your armor vs more magic find. i remember in the original version of d2 you could gamble some pretty good stuff, but after 1.1 i haven't been able to get anything decent. and of course, moore's law being what it is, you'll always find awesome wands with your damage-dealer characters and awesome weapons with your spellcasters.

thats is definitely my problem now, magic find vs. resistances. i guess playing in hell mode automatically drops your resists a ton?

I should play D2 again. If you plan on taking your character into Hell difficulty, you kind of have to plan ahead. Some things work great on Normal and Nightmare that are totally impractical in Hell.

Now, I stopped playing the game a few patches ago, so I don't know really how to be great at the game anymore. I had a lightning javazon with Titan's Revenge, and man was she awesome before 1.09 or 1.10 or whenever they nerfed Amazon lightning. Then she was like unplayable.

normal - regular resists

nightmare - auto -25% to all resists

hell - auto -50% to all resists.

I play on USEast (currently working on an orb-it-aller named BubbaDow) but I always play sorcs. If you're doing sorc work I might have some tips but any of the other classes I'm probably useless with.

Hell is, well... hell. For some characters it's not a big deal (I'm looking at you, Paladins) but for a sorceress the resists drop is severe. That and immunities on bosses. P-Diamonds in socketed shields are your best friend for that.

Did they ever release that new patch or is it still in Beta?

There is already a thread about Diablo II in Classic gaming (the game is a decade old, and thus belongs in that forum). The thread was updated a couple of months ago, so it's not like it was in stasis for 5 years.

Cool. I made that thread.

Anyway, even though it's not gonna happen for awhile, I decided I'm not going to touch Diablo II until Diablo III comes out.

Later on they released another patch, which featured synergy bonuses to your skills. Suddenly the necromancers skeletons got a whole lot more powerful. I have a necro, which decimates the game on Hell level difficulty.

Necromancer skeletons also decimate server bandwidth.
