For several months after getting Metroid Prime, I played it and enjoyed it like the rest of the free world did. "Yeah, this is good" I thought, but I never really got into it the way many others said they had. When Wind Waker came along it was a convenient excuse to stop forcing myself through MP, so I devoted my free time to WW and dropped MP altogether.

After WW, I found other excuses not to play it again. Games like Ultima IX (on a new PC), Red Faction II, and All-Star Baseball 2004 started finding their way into my play time...all while Samus beckoned to me from the corners of my mind. A few days ago though, I came to a realization: if I didn't beat Metroid Prime soon, I never would. It would soon be too long since I last played it, and I just wouldn't pick it back up again. So with some reluctance, I resumed playing MP where I left off (at the Elite boss) those many months ago.

After decimating the Elite boss with about a fifth of one unit of health left, suddenly I AM Samus. I'm shrugging off Space Pirates as if they're Space Fleas. I'm artifacting my BUTT off. I'm finding all sorts of hidden areas I had previously ignored and/or missed. I am a space goddess, and I ain't gonna let the Chozo go out like that. In about two days worth of very limited play time, I've completed about 20% of the game and have been "locked in" ever since.

Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever fought through a game you knew was good, but you just didn't enjoy like you should? Have you ever put down a game for another, only to return months later to the first game and finally have it "click" for you?

Ultima IX on a new PC is that Ascension?

I need to start playing that one again. I played it for several hours and completed the first section and took the boat ride to the area where there is a Ring that you can fight in..etc.. I have not played it in a while so I don't know the names of the areas. The game is terrific ,even with all the bugs in it.

Yep. That area with the fighting ring is Buccaneer's Den btw. :)

I played it and almost beat it on my girlfriend/wife's old 450mhz machine (that was a chore!) shortly after it's original release, but then encountered a bug that wouldn't let me get past the Well of Souls near the end. I always promised myself that I'd play it again though, so after getting a new PC a couple months ago I re-installed it and played it all the way through (no game-ending bug this time!). It's MUCH better on a high-end machine without all the framerate hitches, even though all of the bugs are still present.

Cool , I will read the review tonight. Now you got me psyched up to play again. I ran into a bug inthe first quest where you lay the item on the stone alter and it swirls around and then you need to show it to the girl on the boat to get to the Bucaneers Den. The item (I think it was an Ankh) was hovering over the Stone Alter. I had to use the cheat code to fly up and grab it. According to someone on the Ultima newsgroup the problem was a result of my Pentium PC being to fast or something.


Anyway I will check the review and keep your name handy for any questions. If thats cool with you

Yeah, the same thing happened to me with Metal Gear Solid. It wasn't that I got bored with it, I just get stuck at the Sniper Wolf part. I got frustrated and put the game away for a while, with no interest in picking it up. When I finally did a few months later it was ewxactly like you with MP.

I did that with Dragon Warrior 4 last year. Played it everyday for a couple of hours got close to the end and just stopped playing it. It's been over a year and I still didn't finish it.

I switched over and started playing Dark Cloud and Onimusha
