I'm working on an article on this game, and hit a snag... it might be games.
Andre Panza Kickboxing was on the Turbo, Amiga, DOS PCs, and some other computers.
Best of the Best Championship Karate was on the SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, NES, and the Amiga/DOS.
Both games play the same, despite being split by a few years. The question becomes is Best of the Best a sequel, an update, or a port? I was under the impression for years that these were the same exact game, but in fact there are differences.
BotB has 20 additional moves to utilize. The game's mostly share assets such as the arena, training mini-games, and ring card girl. BotB does not have the empty stadium as far as I'm aware, and the CPU opponents are named differently.
If BotB is just an update on Panza KB, why did it get a separate release on the PC and Amiga? MobyGames has a working title for BotB as Panza Kick Boxing 2, but I don't see how they could have gotten away calling this a sequel. Damn near everything is identical (and before the inevitable sarcastic jab, yes, this is far worse than Madden).
