I just won these rare items on ebay for the 5200

I haven't had a chance to try them yet. I noticed in the auction that it didn't include the y-cable but I have one that for some reason came with my 5200. It doesn't seem that I need it anyway since there is a port on the keypad for the joystick. Is that how it is suppose to work or do I use the y cable? What are the known issues with these joysticks? Why are there switches that make the stick loose or more stiff? I got these since it was a good price and I am hoping to finally enjoy my 5200 again.

The WICO keypad is a wonderful thing to have for the 5200 and is one of my most treasured items. If you have the keypad, you don't need the Y-cable; you can plug the WICO joystick right into the keypad. The Y-cable is used if you have the WICO joystick and a regular 5200 controller.

It's a decent enough joystick, but the ultimate setup is having the WICO keypad, the Redemption 5200 adapter (Sega Genesis version), and the Epyx 500XJ joystick for the Sega Master System (identifiable by its two fire buttons and auto-fire switch).

How are you able to use the redemption 5200? it seems that the keypad will only take wico sticks.

There was a SMS version of the 500XJ? I never knew that. I seem to come across them a fair amount, but I just glance at the buttons to see whether it's an NES or Atari version, I don't check the plug in combination with the buttons. I'll have to start doing that from now on. I wonder how difficult it would be to hack one to work on the Atari 7800?

Good purchase! So much better then the original. Great fire buttons, self centering or free floating, lock tabs under the base. I have two 5200 Wico sticks and one keypad. I ended up building an adaptor with matching ports to accommodate both sticks. Trakball fills in for the other keypad.

Waiting for 5200 Tempest.
