Looking for a cab to MAME

I have been perusing through craigslist for months now (i live in the Boston, MA area) but have been having a somewhat difficult time trying to find anything. I followed the advice of another member in trying to pursue sellers who may have a little bit too much on their plate for restoration, but I just seem to find bad deals galore.

How much would it generally cost to make a MAME cabinet, anyway? I have a small computer for the job, as well as a fairly decent Dell CRT monitor, but what about the cost of parts and what not for the rest of it? All my luck on craigslist is finding complete games for 300-800 dollars or empty hunks of wood for 100....I'm only 17 so I don't have an enormous amount of funds but it has always been a big dream for me to have a MAME cabinet. I look in deals for other states, and people are just giving cabinets away for free (I found a listing in Philadelphia for a Neo Geo cab and Pong Cab) and it seems Massachusetts is NOT the place to be, for either arcade machines or retrogaming in general (there is only one non-GS store in my area now, and i'm not even sure if it's still open. My favorite one, Game Universe, closed last Veterans Day)

If you're looking for a cab to MAME out, why would want to put some shit Dell CRT in it?

There are always listing on CL in your area, you just need to keep checking. Here's one for you:

Relief Pitcher cab. The game is not exactly a classic, so no one will judge your decision to MAME it out. At $125 it's a good deal for a working cab. The cab is listed as OBO and he's relisted it a number of times. If you throw $75 his way, I could see him biting. No hurt in trying.

If you already have a PC tower, you're half way there. By a VGA card and a J pac, add some new sticks and buttons and presto: A sweet MAME cab for a couple hundred bucks. Everything for your MAME needs can be found on this site: http://www.ultimarc.com/

You are probably just looking at all the wrong times. Give it time, I am sure you will find plenty in the Boston area. I look avery now and again because I am always looking for my next project. I found a LeMans cabinet for $50 on CL, I went to go look at it and helped the guy take it out of his basement. Since I helped him clear his basement he said I can take it and another cab he had in his garage for free. Sooner or later you'll be in the right place at the right time.

If you are willing to make a trip down to CT, I know a guy in Berlin that has a cab he'll sell you for under $100. Its a non-specific cab so its perfect for a MAME job. I just picked up two cabs from him, super guy.

Also, I have a 2P J-PAC that I am willing to let go. Since the moving company wrecked my PC for the MAME Cab, I think I am going to just finish it properly and make it a JAMMA cab.
