Resurfacing black bottom PSX discs?

I got a copy of Resident Evil 2 for my friend, and the first disc is scratched beyond readability. How can I fix scratches on a black bottom disc?

Fixing a PSOne game is the same as any disc. Take it to someone who has a professional resurfacing machine. They need to go slow on PSOne games cuz they are easy to mess up.

When a disc gets resurfaced, a thin layer of the plastic is removed, thereby having that much less left to protect the data layer. Therefore, when a PSOne disc is resurfaced, extra care has to be taken not to remove too much plastic.

Really? This black disc seems pretty thick compared to a regular CD.

In my experience the black discs are very reliable. I have several that look scratched beyond relief, but they work just fine.

Or use a less abrasive resurfacer.

I use the JFJ Easy Pro, and if there are lot's of surface scratches, none too deep, I don't use sanding pad. If the disc has slightly deeper scratches, or the first step does not work, I then use the "soft" sanding paper, which takes out very little plastic. But if that does not work, I then use the "coarse" sanding paper, which takes out a huge chunk.

I don't think speed has much difference, though now that you mention it, the JFJ does have different time settings. So maybe the longer the disc is being resurfaced, the more layers are removed.
