I've got a SMS Spy vs. Spy that has multi-language box & manual (english, french, german and spanish). I always thought it was a US-released NTSC copy because I found it in a thrift store years ago with a bunch of other SMS games. Checking US ebay auctions for Spy vs. Spy though, I see all the copies listed have different boxes and instructions than mine (my copy is a picture of a hand holding the game card whereas the ones on Ebay have a color drawing).

Do I have a Euro copy or was this packaging also used for the US release? I also found a couple other of SMS games with the multi-lingual packaging over the years (I know Ghost House was one), so I'm thinking it's a US release but I don't know for sure.

That's a good question. I have a few like this too, but I assume they're Euro. SMS games have been imported by the butt load since there was no region lockout and a bunch of euro exclusives.

The other thing is maybe the euro version came from canada since they needed french language support.

I think Canada had the multi-lingual boxes.

Yes all the SMS games I bought from Canada all had the multi-language backs. I figured it was for the French aspect as well.

Some US releases were Euro versions with a sticker put on the box. The only game I can remember is Sonic the Hedgehog but I'm sure that there's others. Also some Canadian releases are Euro ones too, they were just imported into Canada.

Strider, Spider-Man, and Sonic are the only 3 that have the UPC stickers on them.

No region lockout? I had an import copy of New Zealand Story once and although it played in my SMS, the graphics were very garbled.

i had the understanding that all NTSC games had a translated manual in the vertical fashion except the ones with a sticker UPC codes.

AC Adaptor voltage: 10.5V, center minus. The majority of games will play in all systems, but there are a handful of PAL games that won't work on NTSC systems, and there is the series of 8-Mega games from Brazil that will only work in an SMS III Compact or SMS III Super Compact. For example, the PAL games New Zealand Story and Back to the Future III won't work in NTSC. Street Fighter 2 & Sonic Blast are examples of 8-Mega games. There is a rumour that you could play basically any SMS games with a MegaDrive using the Power Base Converter add-on. You can play a lot of SMS games through a PBC, but there are a few games that won't work with Genesis controllers. You can't play card games or 3D games with a PBC 2.
