View Full Version : The Dingoo [portable emulator] Thread

I have been thinking about this handheld system, and for it's price it seems really practical. I have seen it for sale at google shopping for under $100 in several sites. I have seen vids of it on youtube running emulation. I want to know everything about it.

My specific questions are does it have its own original games specifically for the system or does it strictly run emulation? If it does have its own original games, are they pre-installed in the system?

I would also like opinions on it and how it compares to the PSP and the GP2X Wiz for those who own one or have played it.

Well, finally got a hold of a Dingoo A320..
Can't get the stupid thing to connect to my computer (Windows Vista >.>)
No matter what I've tried, and I've searched ceaselessly for hours, it won't connect.
So my only hope lies in a miniSD card.
However, it seems that many of the emulators require roms to be placed on the internal memory of the A320, which is impossible.
Will I be able to run emulators on it using just the memory card, without touching the internal memory?

First of all, I'm not sure what the DP rules are about emulation talk, but if the Dingoo is anything like the GP2X, your PC won't recognize it as a drive. Therefore, you have to move everything over to the SD card. Moving everything to the SD card is probably your best bet.

This might help:

I have Vista as well, but I don't have SP2, I got this laptop in 2007.

You probably have a defective unit. I had two that were bad and would not connect, and one that was ok. You need the internal memory for alot of things, so you would most likely want to get that exchanged if it is not functioning correctly.

What version of Vista are you running? If you are running SP2, roll back to SP1, that seems to work for people running that. Are you using a 32 bit or 64 bit version?

I'm fairly certain I'm running a 32-bit.

Hmmm you might try looking for someone who runs XP on their computer. It will connect to XP.
I've given up on emulation myself a ways back. I am an original hardware man now.

Talk of emulation is fine, asking for Romz/ISO's on the other hand is a huge nono.

Eh? My computer recognizes the GP2X internal memory as a drive... I don't really store anything there, but it works perfectly fine.

Yeah, my Windows 7 computer won't recognize mine. Maybe that's the difference.

Good to hear! At least it wan't DOA (which has happened to me a few times)

I'm having the same problem. My A320 turns on and works fine, but my Windows Vista x64 won't mount it as a drive. (According to the instruction booklet, it's supposed to.)

Could you please post a link to the patch you found?

Dang, man. Wish I remembered where I got it....
The only thing I remember is that it was on Microsoft's website...it was a driver for a camcorder or something, I think..
Sorry, wish I could help more.

I already found and tried that solution. It didn't work on my computer. Oh well, I've been using a mini SD card instead. Thanks though.

Merging and adding to these small existing threads since I got a Dingoo A-380 at the DP Store yesterday.

Nice little user-friendly unit, aside from the fact that it's not recognized as a USB device in Windows Vista and 7 properly (or without doing dangerous registry edits) - thankfully I have an old XP laptop that I keep around for things like this.

Apparently there's no Dingux Linux OS for this YET, but the on-board emulators are all nice and for the most part very passable.

The CPS1 and CPS2 are the high points, REALLY REALLY nice, running those games flawlessly.

SNES and GBA emulation chugs a bit on some games and Genesis has some graphical glitches here and there. I wish that the Genesis emulator supported 6 button games, but unfortunately the stock version of the emulator doesn't.

GB emu seems to suffer from sped-up audio possibly due to how over-clocked the thing is, but the gameplay on the games seems to run at normal speed.

Screen is nice and bright, audio is a bit soft, but sounds nice over headphones.

I have yet to try the other emulators (NES, SMS, Neo-Geo, GG) or download any Dingoo community developed emulators or apps, but I look to do so in the near future. Will report back when I do.

From what I can gather the emulation really isn't better than anything available on the PSP, but is the D-pad better?

I really, really hate playing fighters on my PSP (or any Sony brand controller).

It's a standard cross pad, and pretty responsive from what I can tell so far.

I'm having a BITCH of a time getting Neo-Geo games to work on the A-380, anybody here have a 380 and willing to give us an idiot-proof tutorial?

I've got the arcade perfect romset ... but I'm finding that it won't read them if they're converted to MVS format. I've seen some info about them needing to be in FBA format, is there a converter for that?

Gah. Frustrating considering how user friendly the rest of the thing is.

Yeah, I didn't pay an arm and a leg for mine, and so far I'm luke warm. Some things it seems to do brilliantly and for other seemingly basic things it seems painfully obtuse/difficult to work with.

Though, I did find a site that has the game files pre-formatted for Dingoo, so I've got my fingers crossed that when all these downloads finish I'll be able to do some halfway decent Neo-Geo and Mame4All on the go.

The NES, SMS, GB, Genesis emulators are pretty good for daily playing on the train, the Neo-Geo and arcade emus are decent enough for a quick blast, and OldPlay for Dingux is the best ever for retro fans, as it can play NSF, SID, SPC, HES, GBS, VGM... you name it!

I'm quite satisfied with my A320 Dingoo.

Ooooookay.

So, after a few days of research and a few nights of staying up later than I have in several years I got Neo Geo working on the A-380.

Unfortunately it literally took a day worth of manual command line conversion of each compatible game.

Thankfully Neo Geo emulation is pretty decent on the thing.

As I mentioned earlier the CPS1 and CPS2 emulation is the STAR of this thing. I can't figure out how the heck those emulators are SO optimized and far far less power-requiring emulators like NES don't seem to run as smoothly overall.

Since the framework of how the A-380 runs is different than the A-320 I'm going to have to wait for some of the community developed emulators like LYNX to be ported over, but overall, for the $80 I paid for this, it's pretty neat.

MAME4ALL
CPS1
CPS2
Neo Geo

are all really cool and run pretty impressively for such a tiny thing.

The console and portable emulators are very decent, but I think that the PSP may be a better 8 and 16 bit emulator device overall.
