View Full Version : English Friendly Saturn Imports?

Is there a list of Sega Saturn imports that are English friendly (or mostly friendly)? I'm looking to weed out my Saturn ISO collection of the useless games that I'll never be able to play.

Once I weed out the non-playable games, I then need to organize them by genre. Sports and Dating Simulation games I need like a hole in the head. :)

Bubble Symphony is a good game to import. Other than Taito Legends 2, it's the only way to own a home version of the game. You can set the game to English with a code.

Linkle Liver Story is a great action RPG for the N00b Japanese reader.

plus its fun as hell.

There are lots of shooters, fighting games, platformers, puzzle games, racing games, and misc. action games that don't present much, if any, of a language barrier. The list would be a mile long.

Any Capcom fighting game is definitely English friendly. Everything but the win quotes and maybe the menu details are in English. Very import friendly.

Willy Wombat is nice. Love the game and it's a classic and fairly unknown Hudson game to boot.

I know, and that's the list I want. Surely someone out there must have put together some sort of list, even if it's not complete. Or at least a list of games that DO require a knowledge of Japanese to play. That list would probably be much shorter and easier to put together.

My site has got some Saturn import reviews for you to look at. Some recommendations that spring to mind are:

-Bulk Slash
-Elevator Action Returns
-Metal Slug
-the fighting games (X-Men/MSH vs. SF, KoF '97, Real Bout Special, World Heroes Perfect, etc.)
-Any of the shooters (Soukygurentai, Battle Garegga, Radiant Silvergun, Sengoku Blade etc.)
-Any of the puzzlers (Coin Puzzle Moujiya, Waku Waku Monster, Chibi Taisen, etc.)
-Keriotosse!
-Hissatsu!

So many more. Beware the prices though, many of these games fetch a fair penny.

In about 90% of Japanese games, you can tell right off. I doubt anyone's bothered to make a list, when it's pretty self-evident most of the time.

True, but then again to tell right off you need to buy the game or burn the iso to a CD and that takes a lot of money and/or time.

It's worth mentioning that all of the voice acting in it is in English even though it's a Japanese-only release, so you're not even missing out on the story by not knowing Japanese. It's only a few menus and the story subtitles that are in Japanese.

In the majority of cases you can tell just by the title of the game. Obviously if it has "Street Fighter" in the title, it's English-friendly. Obviously if it has "visual novel" in the title, it isn't. I mean, what games are you having difficulty with?

I have made a Collector's Guide of sorts for the Saturn which you can download for free at:
http://www.SegaSaturnGuide.com

Also, most of the videos are now on Youtube (broken into 6 volumes). You can just do a search for "155 Sega Saturn" at Youtube.

Yeah man, it is immediately apparent that titles like "Keriotosse" and "Hissatsu" are English-friendly, I don't know why he'd even ask.

I've found that Segagaga Domain has a nice selection of Saturn import mini-reviews. I've been using them to pare out the Japanese only titles (RPGs, Data Sims, and whatnot). It's not perfect and it doesn't have all the games, but it's a start.

BTW does anyone know if Baroque is English friendly? I thought someone said that the text or voices are in english, but I can't tell by reading the reviews.

I have Baroque and sadly it isn't English friendly at all, japanese menus that break off into sub-menus and character dialog is subbed in Japanese. I don't remember there being any voice acting at all in it last time I played.

Well i weeded through all my ISOs and got rid of about 80% of them (so many RPGs!). The only two games I seem to be having a hard time finding are Coin Puzzle Moujiya and Thunderforce Gold Pack 1. Coin Puzzle I can see since it's somewhat rare, but Thuderforce Gold Pack 1 surprises me since it's insanely popular. You'd think it would be in every Saturn torrent. Odd.

Some saturn fighters are english friendly and have the option to pick it.

Samurai Spirits IV
KOF 96
Real Bout Fatal Fury
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
Vampire Savior:Beat the game without continueing then put a code in at the title screen.

That's all that comes to mind for me.

Well all fighting games are english friendly really and sadly Vampire Saviors english mode ends up censoring the game.

Huh, Gold Pack 1 surprises me. It's the lesser popular of the two (GP2 included TFIII/TF IV -- the more popular games). I had no problems finding GP1 6 years ago but times do change, I suppose.

As for CPM yes that was a hard bugger for me to find. Also consider... the spelling can be wildly inconsistent. When I won it 6, 7 years ago, it was listed simply under "Mojiya" or something, not even "correctly" spelled Moujiya (as it is on the label of the CD cover). There are probably some copies floating out there, but the spelling's not the conventional one.

It is a hard to find game, though. And a very good puzzle game :)
