Hey all,

I'm just curious to learn a little more about the Game Gear link cable. Manly why nobody had one!

I owned a Game Gear growing up and remember getting a few games that were able to use the cable, but had no friends that had the cable. I was curious to see what the online collector's guide had to say about this, but there was no entry.

I sort of doubted that it didn't exist because so many games could use it. Anyway I was able to find a closed Ebay auction it was in the UK and closed without much fanfare: link. (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SEGA-GAME-GEAR-LINK-CABLE-_W0QQitemZ230437492661QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq2010021 7?IMSfp=TL100217205001r22932#ht_500wt_1182)

A search for it on Ebay again leads to an adapter for playing two player Master System games on the Game Gear. A person is listing one on Amazon for $20, but of course there is no way of knowing what it is.

So really, what's the deal?

Note: While searching I did find out that it was called the Gear-to-Gear cable officially. I found a picture of it via Google Images, but the box looked more like it was of SEGA Master System palette. I'm thinking it was a European version for that reason.

They're just uncommon because few people bothered with them. See also the ComLynx cable, the TurboLink cable, and the two-player NGPC cable (whatever that was called).

Those can sometimes be found when somebody throws it into a large Game Gear lot. I have a few of these laying around my room from buying such lots.

Isn't it just a USB cable? If so, that should be easy to find.

Game Gear predates the creation of USB by several years.
