I'm sure people here like homebrews, but does anyone here like to program them. I'm attempting to make a NES homebrew, although hy hightech computer with windows XP doesn't like to run DOS programs like nes Assembler, so I'm having a bit a rought time. Also if we do have other programmers around here, are there enough of us to maybe make a forum. It'd be nice to have a place to discuss some problems and ideas with people.

What you should do is install VMware and install DOS from within that. This way you can run your DOS asm in the WinXP environment.

I'll have to try that, I hate windows with all these synthetic Dos shell crap, nothing ever works in them...I even tried using it on my old computer that still had an actual DOS prompt and It ran for about 15 secs before ceasing to work, I was thinking about actually booting up in dos, but then I have to deal with navigating directories the old fashsion way.

I'm seriously looking at revising and finishing an Apple II game I started well over ten years ago. Dunno if anyone's interested in my mighty BASIC-programmed trading-and-strategy thingie though. LOL

Yeah, the VMware works well. I used to use it for some DOS compiling utils I was using awhile back. It actually emulates a soundblaster card which was nice, because I was able to run some old DOS games from within it and get legacy sound with a PCI soundcard. You can run multiple OS's under this. Great for testing your work (if you are creating a PC game that is) across many different platforms without the need to actually multi-OS your machine itself.

well atleast you get to use basic, NES runs off Assembly, we're talking assigning registers here, although I did find a site that had a guy who designed a Basic type language that converted itself to Assembly for use in Nes Emulators.

I couldn't even get my head round Computer Intro for the Odyssey 2. Assembler is like Greek to me. :/

Believe me, I wish I understood it all.

@Zektor---that is pretty sweet- I used to make some old school apple IIe type games with C++ that ran in DOS....I never really had a problem running them in a DOS shell though.

@Phosphor Dot Fossils---Is kinda greek to me too, but I have a friend who took a few Assembly classes and can write about 200-300 lines an hour when he knows what he's doing. He's gonna help me out a bit.
