That's right. I wanted a PS2 sooooo bad when it was released but it was sold out for months. I ended up with an XBox and a GameCube (both great systems) and never got PS2... until now! I know it has a massive library what I'm looking for are recommendations for unique and fun PS2 games that I may have missed. I don't really care for Survival horrors, boring FPS and TPS, fighters or RPGs. Well, I like a few games in each of those categories but what I'm really looking for is something unique. Any thoughts?
Sorry, can't rellay help out here. I'm still waiting to purchase one myself, but I'm waiting till they come down to $99 or less (in a few years).
I love playing games, but can wait for lower prices. I've done this will almost every system I've bought. :-D

I am going to list all of my personal favorites for the Playstation 2 system, these may, or may not interest you, they are in no particular order.
1. Tribes Aerial Assault (online, offline sucks)
2. Shadow Hearts (RPG with a darker twist)
3. Gran Turismo 3 (fantastic racing game, 20$ new on greatest hits)
4. Frequency, and its sequel Amplitude (both great music games)
5. Final Fantasy 10 (need I say more)
6. Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil (great 3d side scrolling game)
7. Devil May Cry (sorry for the WAY over used words..but KICK ASS)
8. Ico ( A one of a kind game.....cant describe it, just get it)
Well, there you have it, I have these games, and alot more in my PS2 collection, and I gave you my personal favs for the system, have fun! :)

Winback? I thought that was an N64 game. Was it ported to the PS2 or is this just a coincidence in titles?

I can't let a PS2 games thread go by without mentioning Fantavision.

is a good thread for unique games on PS2 (i.e not the next Twisted Metal, Wipeout, Final Fanstasy, etc)
I like ICO a lot. Suikoden III is very good. I liked Ridge Racer V a bunch as well. Rez is cool and very surreal (i have the DC ver)

I'll toss in a recommendation for Ace Combat 4. I didn't really care for AC3 on the PS1, but I really like AC4. You can beat the main story mode in about 3-5 hours, so if you're the kind of player who likes to blow through a game, see the ending, then move on to the next game it's probably just a rental for you. But if you plan to unlock all the planes and weapons, play through the higher difficulty levels, and check out the other game modes, it's going to give you at least 15-20 hours of game time. It's part of the Greatest Hits line, so you should be able to find it for $20 or less.
Of course, if you're looking for retro games, don't pass up Activision Anthology.

Thanks to everyone who got my point about originality. I now have a few titles to look out for. For those of you who didn't get it: If you told me you just got an XBox and were looking for something unique, I would probably say something like Munch's Oddysee and NOT Splinter Cell.
