I was playing Heavy Rain the other day and after finishing one of the chapters, it went to a black screen instead of loading the next chapter. After a few minutes I just pressed the PS button on the controller, the system beeped and reset itself. I then played that same chapter over a few more times and it was fine after that, and it's been hiccup free since then and I'm nearing the end of the game.
I then went on to the Playstation Heavy Rain forums and other Heavy Rain forums, and they're all lit up with people complaining of freezing and audio problems. I'm thinking if this many people are having the same problems maybe it's the software update that's the problem instead of a disc issue. Am I right in assuming this?

I installed the update before even starting the game the first time and finished my first playthrough without any game-breaking bugs or freezes. The only glitch I ran across was one where, in the subway scene, the camera bugged out and focused on the floor, and then character models disappeared. I couldn't see the buttons I needed to press so the scened played out in a way I didn't want. But it played fine before and after that point.
I have a month-old 120GB Slim.
The game froze on me once during my first playthrough when switching between characters. I started a second playthrough last night and it bugged out several times in the beginning. Ethan suddenly froze when started working in his office, then later it would flash back to his desk when he was talking to his wife and playing with his kids, you would just see flashes of a pencil flying across his drawing table. The audio also started to stutter a few times, but everything went smoothly when it switched over to the mall.
There have been some pretty weird glitches reported already and it's said to all be due to the auto saving system they have.

Isn't that game actually developed by Sony, and as such, I hope you weren't expecting a quality game, all they care about, is showing off the graphics of their Blue-Ray player(cough, I mean wannabe game consol, it and its 1-3 min load times sigh).
If Sony could get away with it, they would only allow 3D games on their consol(hell, sony actually only wanted 3D games to be on the PS2, and you all know how that turned out lol, needless to say, the developers would've rather not developed games for the PS2, so Sony let it go).
PS. Every one of Sony's gaming branches has crappy quality control, if any at all, so people shouldn't have high hopes, if they dare to play their games.

"I, like many other neck beards, have invested far too much of my sense of self worth into a product produced by a company that doesn't care whether I live or die. And, because rational thought is beyond my abilities, any other console manufacturer is therefore EVIL. Like Sony! And probably Micro$oft!"
If Sony could get away with it, they would only allow 3D games on their consol(hell, sony actually only wanted 3D games to be on the PS2, and you all know how that turned out lol, needless to say, the developers would've rather not developed games for the PS2, so Sony let it go).
"The internet is awesome because I can say things that make no sense, and no one can punch me! Not even SONYBOYS and their stupid, stupid 3D consoles! I heard this 'fact' on GameFAQS, so I figure it's probably true."
Translation ends. God help you, Zoltor.

Actually the developer is third party. Quantic Dreams also released Indigo Prophecy on the XBOX as well as the PS2.
I've also never experienced load times as long as even a minute on the PS3. Hell. I've never experienced load times more than 10 seconds on the on the PSP and I own atleast 60 games.

One of my friends got suckered into getting a PS3, and every PS3 game we try playing on it, takes forever to load, It's atrocious at best.

I would rather have great graphics, Blu ray, and 1-3 minute load times any day over a machine like the 360 that constantly fucks up on you.

Well stop playing crappy games like Disgaea 3 and you might not have this problem. I don't even know if this is true, but since you get boners about NIS, I'd assume this is one of the games you would have played.
And also I take it back, I have played a game that has load times about a minute on both the PS3, PSP, and XBOX360. All Grand Theft Auto games load up the entire game at the very beginning, and from that point on, the loading times are pretty much one to two seconds.

Wow I haven't any thing like that so far...It must be a glitchy software update or corrupt save data, because there's no way they could have manufactured that many defective discs.

Actually no, he doesn't have Disgaea 3, but he does have Demon's Souls, and Soul Caliber 4(plus a bunch of crappy games, which is basically what the rest of the PS3 Library is anyway).
Omg, GTA games are well known for their bad design in that aspect, and It's a game flaw of some kind, basically every GTA game new or old, takes forever to load, so to be fair(as if Sony deserves that lol), that doesn't count, but yea, every damn game we played, had insanely huge loading times.

I'm not sure what it was, but weird glitches have been reported to happen and I don't think there have been any reported that haven't just been something minor.

Holy fandboy alert Batman! I think you've forgotten what board you're posting on Sir., this is Digital Press, not Gamefaqs. I have a rather large PS3 game colelction and the only game I can recall that had a rather long loading time is FEAR, which had a rather horrible port, other than that I can't recall any other game that took more than a minute to load at it's initial start. Unless you can provide valid proof and name games that have these preposterous loading times you speak of, I'll have to label you nothing more than troll.

Demon Souls has a bit of load time at the beginning of every world out from the core....oh wait...that's cause it loads the WHOLE GODDAMNED LEVEL into one streamless playthrough area. Weird, huh?
Maybe you haven't played, say...Uncharted 2, which had almost ZIP for load time. Or Batman: Arkham Asylum, which only loaded between distinct areas for the most part.
Or Heavy Rain, which loads whole HUGE super high-def sections at a time. You should check out Heavy Rain if you want to see a game that hardly has load times.
Wait, nevermind...just go back to your C64 with fast-load cartridge, Zoltar. It's probably just as fast as your PS3 and doesn't have any ugly ass 3D games.

You should go and visit the official Playstation Heavy Rain forums. There must be 40 or more pages worth of posts with people reporting everything from freezing to audio issues. http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=heavyrain&thread.id=3968

Back on topic, there are multiple glitches with this game atm. It should have never hit the streets like this and now all one can do is wait for a fix(which is being worked on).

Well living in the digital age that we do, releasing a buggy game and fixing it with software patches later on seems to be the approach of some developers. It's happening far too often...Need for Speed: Pro Street, GTAIV, Assassins Creed 2, and now this. These fucking developers need to make sure these games are flawless in every way before they release them and charge $60.

QFT. I have about fifteen games for my PS3, and none of them ever took a minute to load. If my timer is correct, Heavy Rain takes 8 seconds to load every chapter, and Demon's Souls takes 8-12 seconds ONCE.

My oh my, what have you been playing? Must have been either bootlegs or a longer feeling of time attributed to fanboyism. :/
Also, I enjoy original 2D stuff as much as you, but I embrace everything from a creative and artistic standpoint. Make something whatever you want to fit the game you're attempting to create; that's what I always say. :)

To be fair, video game developers are just following the lead of PC game developers since patches became part of "the game".
This is one of the reasons I will usually wait for a couple price drops or a GH version of the game to come out, by that point, they've usually fixed all the bugs that they are going to fix. Plus, sometimes they throw in some of that paid DLC for free, so it's even a better deal :) .
Also, for the record, Zoltor, if that's indeed your real name. We don't take too kindly to blind fanboy rants around here, so pump the brakes on your actions please. Being a fanboy troll is the second most useless thing you can be on the internet. The first, of course, is being a graded game collector.
Have a wonderful day.

Near the beginning I was just having the occasional bit of stutter but now I'm getting quite a bit of tearing. And recently I had the game freeze in one scene which required a reboot. Then it froze in a different part of the scene. Another reboot and I finally got through that scene. I didn't install the patch due to fears of it making things worse. Anyway, the game is utterly fantastic and worth playing despite the QA issues.

I get lots of sound hiccups and the game has frozen on me 4 times so far. At least the auto-saving is pretty reliable so I don't have to backtrack too much. It tends to happen after I finish a scene. It's frozen twice on the face-close-up loading screens. Piece of shit.

I don't understand how a game that's been in development for probably 3-4 years, if not longer, can be released with so many bugs and glitches?! It's completely inexcusable that this happened. I feel for ya man, all I had was a single spot where the screen went black after the Suicide Baby chapter.

Hm, didn't notice this yesterday.
I've got a question for you: how is that mass majority of the PS3 library? You've really played THAT many games for the console alone? Furthermore, something IS crappy or it isn't. That use of "basically" leads me to believe you're making a bad guess just to make opinion a fact.
Here's a tip: discussions have no room for over-inflated "factual" fanboy rants. Don't take this personally, but I think you'd have a better time here by taking a deep-breath and laying off the ranting.

Anyone thing they'll fix this with the patch on the next printed copies of the game? Or just updates?

I would guess that, these days they hardly ever revise the discs themselves, just go with an update. That leads to issues for those who don't have/can't have their consoles online, though. That's why I'm "guessing", I guess.

I would bet on just updates, unless the next version has new content.
