Ya, I noticed this problem awhile ago when I tried to play Heavy Rain. Since the game can't sync to the trophies, it gives me the 8001050f error and boots out of the game. Apparently rumors are, PSN was hacked, hence: http://us.playstation.com/PS3/dearplaystation/. So basically you can't play any games that have trophies, because it tries to sync up the trophy data via PSN. Fucking trophies. This is rage worthy. At least with LIVE you can play offline and then your acheivements update when you sign back on.

Yeah. I tried to get on Demon's Souls today and it said trophy data could not be found and would not let me start the game. This is after it failed to log in. I watched Batman the Animated series then played some Grand Theft Auto 3 on the system. So games without trophies work it seems.

Anyways. My Demon's Souls trophies were removed from my list when starting the game.

After a bit more reading, it's also happening to people who haven't been "online" with their PS3 for days. It might have something to do with the PS3's internal clock and GMT hitting midnight 3 hours ago. Crazy.

It happend to me lost trophies and save game files for Drake's fortune and Killzone 2 DO NOT attempt to play any game with trophies or log in to psn. I haven't tried any games without trophies yet but i will try one and report back soon.

...and I also heard that rumor. Some kinda error with the system clock. Maybe that's why my date and time was in December when I check it. I thought something was up with that.

I was going to watch some Blu-Rays but I'm afraid to turn it on until I hear that this is resolved and there's no danger of losing saves.

If I lose my Dragon Age character less than three weeks before Awakenings comes out I will have to cut a bitch. :)

It won't do anything to your save files (no reports anyway) and while we're at it, you won't be able to watch any Blu-Rays for whatever reason. This is a rather fucked up bug and I'm sure people who don't have the internet are going crazy right now.

I sent my 360 in for the third repair last week. Now this. What the fuck am I gonna do, read a book?

And who was the idiot that designed the trophy system to QUIT a game when it couldn't sync with the online server. Now you can't even play anything offline. (For the record, Heavy Rain is the only game I tried to play.)

What's even worse is that none of my purchased titles from PSN work either. The system thinks I only bought the demo. Mega Man 9 won't even load.

Fuckin' shitballs!!!

You know, I've noticed in general that PSN has a LOT of problems. It's always down on a Friday or Saturday night (generally the only time I have to play anything). I guess that's what you get when you don't pay for it.

There's only two times I've had a problem with it. One when I found they were updating everything and this.

I've never really experienced any problems with the PSN otherwise. Kind of sucks that this happened. I just finished Demon's Souls with my new character and was halfway through the second game. If I have to play through it again it may be quite some time before I pick it up. It took me awhile to get pure black tendency as it is.

I went to play LittleBigPlanet yesterday and ran into the same issue. InFamous worked fine, though. Glad I got my time with Heavy Rain in an over with or else I'd have been rather upset at this debacle. Though, since I sent my 360 back in, it's my only newer console at the moment.

14% left to go in AVP... 14%!!!!!!!! Seriously guys... get your shit together!

I read that someone rented a movie and couldn't even watch it due to the crash.

I also read that along with trophies going ka-put that even purchases were dissapearing... there will be hell to pay if all of my download content becomes invalid... oh, there will be hell to pay >_<

It was only certain models affected yas/no? My friend could play games, but mine didn't want to do anything other than spit error codes. =(

the problem is related to the PS3 internal hardware clock (not the OS one that you can setup at the options). The hardware thinks that today is Feb 29th but the OS knows that day doesn't exist so it resets itself to 1/1/2000(EUR) or 31/12/1999 (US).

The following models seem to be affected:

CECHAxx (NTSC)
CECHBxx (NTSC)
CECHCxx (PAL)
CECHExx (NTSC)
CECHGxx (NTSC/PAL)
CECHHxx (NTSC/PAL)
CECHJxx (NTSC/PAL)
CECHKxx (NTSC/PAL)

which are most of the fat PS3s. The PS3 Slim isn't affected.

If you haven't turned on your PS3, don't. Wait at least until tomorrow.

I played BioShock all weekend. Powered down around 7:30 eastern and came back at 8:30 eastern and I got the error. Thought nothing of it started playing again. Went to hack my first machine and it freezes. I go to quit game, it resets PS3. Tried a few more times with different saved games and different machines to hack, same thing. I tried saving again just to make sure it wasn't a saved game file, the same was for 12/31/1999 and it still doesn't work. I manually reset my PS3 clock and still get the freeze. Thats when I noticed my trophies were gone for BioShock.

They need to get this fixed I got very addicted to that game this past weekend.

Seriously, this is totally lame. Not that there's a problem with the old PS3's firmware were it's thinking it's a leap year when it isn't and it's screwing up the system. But rather that Sony knew this bug was in there, fixed it on the newer model PS3's and never bothered to test what would happen to the older PS3's when this date came around. That's just totally lame and incompetent. Sorry but there is no excuse for this happening at all...

Zoltor
03-01-2010, 12:52 PM
Lol, that's classic.

How are people suppose to have them fixed, since they can't even connect to the network? I imagine "every" single person in the world with a PS3 model other then the PS3 slim, has to send them in, just wow what a screw up.

PS. In retrospect, I bet non PS3 Slims are gonna become collectables now, since it will probally be smater/more reliable just to trade it in for a PS3 Slim(since It's a newer model, thus likely to have fewer issues in general), then to have them fix them.

Also since It's a global issue, Sony can't pull that evil scam, about still requiring a receipt years after it was bought to get a replacement due to Sony's errors(really who keeps consol receipt forever)? Umm, but then again Sony pulled that BS when they were sued for the PS2 issues(40 or 50% of the PS2 models actually scratched the game), yea they sort've loss the case, legal wise anyway, but they found a loophole(true sign of evil scum. If you screw something up, you better make it right, pulling that shit is not only evil, but bad business as well, not only to the consumer, but the company as well).

Hey, people need to take advantage of these rare opportunities to make new Sony/PlayStation memes. (that animated "it only does nothing" gif is awesome)

While it is a pretty epic "downtime" blunder ... I'm sure they'll have it fixed within a day or so ... the issue may even resolve itself once we're out of the span of the 48 hours that could have been a leap year day.

Hopefully it doesn't cause any permanent damage to trophies, but since those are ultimately all in the cloud/on Sony's end they should be safe (at least to the last time they were refreshed).

if a ps3 game has a trophy component, the ps3 will auto-connect to the interent to get the trophy information from sonys servers. this is where the failure occurs.

in the end, i love that this happened. it will be a rallying cry as an example of how overreaching game companies can be with their control of hardware and software well after purchase.

I don't know why everyone's saying it completely borks your games offline. No PS3 game that I know of requires an internet connection to boot; you can play games without being connected to the internet at all. Some PS3 owners have never taken their system online, and they still play games, even ones with trophies. To get around this problem, you just have to change your settings so that it's not trying to automatically log on to PSN for trophy info. It's not that hard.

That is is the dumbest design concept I ever heard of. Doesn't the PS3 have a HD for a reason, why in hell are "personal" achievements saved to a server, and not the HD?

i have my ps3 auto-login for stupid things like updating the time after a daylight saving time change and to notify me when there is a system update. its a little late to turn this off now.

i have not turned on my ps3 in a few days, but i will wait for the all clear before i attempt to do so. and the first thing i will turn off is the auto-login.

In some cases they may have been lost locally temporarily but reports are once you boot the specific game up where the trophies were lost it downloads them from Sony's cloud and refreshes your on-system trophies.
