Greetings programs.
I saw one of these on ebay list without bids for $499 a while back. Anybody know what a more reasonable price would be? As shown which is missing the locking cart cover and external switch.

If they have the original button on them they are worth more...the one pictured does not so $85-150 is about right
the $499 person was nuts

Yeah, with the button and all that jazz, I know I'd pay $200 for it if I could afford it.

I was thinking of pairing it up with an original model 1 genesis. The first rev without the lockout works perfectly with this thing. It switches games and does a reset to the title screen almost instantly.
It does work with the model 2 but it seems to take longer for the lockout message to go away unless you press the reset. Here is another pic.

Thanks guys.

They were part of the original kiosks I remember from Kiddie City when the Genesis was released in 1989. Not sure why they had a locking cover over the carts when the whole thing was also locked inside the kiosk. It is basically just a cart switcher. it plugs on to the expansion edge and a ribbon cable cart plugs into the cart slot.
I was told there is some rom code in it but not sure what.

VJ,
Did the kiosk you remember look like the one pictured here?

That one is mine, I have never been able to find any info on it, and very little on the DS-16.
As you can see from the pics, I am missing the arm for the controller to sit in. The guy on eBay you were referring to has one but he won't part with it.

I believe that model kiosk was set to be auctioned off in the big Michael Jackson memorabilia auction that was canceled.
Did you make a post about trying to sell this kiosk before? I still want that Saturn poster, lol.

Yeah I tried to sell it on here once or twice but didn't get any good offers. It's hard to transport, it's massive. I have gotten a $1,000 offer but wasn't ready to part with it at the time. Also, I am pretty sure someone sold a DS-16 on here a few years back for 350. Yes, MJ did have one in his arcade collection.

No it didn't, there would not have been a game gear or virtua fighter in 1989 :)
The Genesis only had 8 games at release from what I remember. By the time I saw it in the store there was only about a dozen games.
The controllers were stuck to arms though.

Nope. I remember trying it both ways. In the genny and in one of the slots. The power base converter does not work either.
