Driver 2 (PS1) - Complete - $3

Picked this up off of evilBay this week. Since retro gaming has apparently died in my area, it's about the only place I can find some decent deals.

The box, manual and paperwork are in German, but the game itself is entirely English. It even came in a nifty plastic case! Not bad for twenty clams.

I liked the PS2 version, it's stupidly campy but works just fine. Think of it as a dumbed-down Lucky and Wild.

I found nothing today other than something I regret not buying because of lack of funds: A Pioneer Laserdisc / DVD combo player. The LD side could read both sides of the disc without the user having to flip the disc. The thing was $15 but I really can't afford the luxury right now. T_T

Wandered around a community yard sale this morning on the way to the bank.

Came away with the following:
Windows 3.1 5 1/4" Installation Disks
IBM Dos 5.0 5 1/4" Installation Disks
Windows 95 for Dummies
DOS for Dummies Quickreference
Ferrari F50 Model Car
Bart Simpson Comic (Anthology of some sort from the comic series)
Holiday '97 Demo for Sony PSX

Passed on a few PS2 games for $5 each. Everything except the comic and demo were for my fiancee, since she's still feeling sick after having her wisdom teeth pulled.

I was amazed to find a game I've been wanting for over a decade now:
Bubble & Squeak for the Genesis, CIB $2

I remember playing this game emulated back in the 90's but for whatever have never seen it at the stores in that time. Why? I don't know. There are only a couple copies of the game on eBay and yet it's supposed to be common? Anyhow, good times to finally snag this fun little game.

Also a buddy is selling off some arcade machines and has four 8-bit Atari computers and a monitor for me to pick-up. Grabbed the Commodore floppy drive from him, just need to find a few cables from another friend... Man is it a pain to gather older computer parts around this area.

My Saturday haul:

Dreamcast:
Jet Grind Radio (complete)
Roadsters (complete)

PlayStation:
Twisted Metal III manual and back insert (non-GH)

PS2:
Onimusha Warlords (non-GH disc in Hollywood Video case)
Jampack vol. 14 (complete)

PC:
Hoyle Solitaire
Warcraft II Battle.net Edition

The Dreamcast games were $3.99 each, and everything else was free.

I'm four DC games away from hitting 100. It was pretty nice to get Jet Grind Radio, Grandia II, Dead or Alive 2, and Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare in the same week (along with Super Magnetic Neo, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future, and the aforementioned Roadsters).

Various golf and football games too.

So my local Hollywood Video has been closing for the past few weeks. My parents went once and purchased a few games for me, but they mentioned they weren't any good deals to be found on movies. Earlier last week I drove by that Hollywood video figuring it would be closed by now (I think it was 5 or 6 weeks since my parents bought those games). I saw signs in the windows, but figured they just haven't cleaned up.

Yesterday my Mom went by a health food store nearby and mentioned they were still open. I didn't really want to go, but my dad did and I decided to tag along. Good thing I did.

As it turned out, they a ton of DVDs from other stores that had closed that they were now selling. Most of these DVDs were not picked over, so my Dad and I got a few things.

DVDs were $3 for 10:
Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Diamonds are Forever
Octopussy
The World is Not Enough
The Frisco Kid
Thunderbirds are Go
Exodus
War of the Worlds (1954)
A Disc from Star Trek Season 1 with The Menagerie Parts 1 and 2

I also picked up Deadly Creatures for about $9.

My dad was happy to find War of The Worlds for himself, and I think the employees were amazed that it was still there. Most of the Star Trek finds came from a section that was where children's movies were placed. It seemed that a lot of people probably mistook all the movies for kids movies and passed on it. I almost missed Wrath of Khan, but thankfully my dad spotted it while looking through the movies.

CoooOOOOOooooooooooOOooKie Crisp! With the lovable Officer Crumb.

Living on the boarder means that usually once a year my family would take a trip into the states to pick up various American goods. As a kid I loved the idea of cookie crisp, as I grew older it lost it's appeal.

Finds:

Shadow Hearts PS2 - $5 (as a gift for my brother in law)
Ogre Battle SNES - $19.50
Tactic's Ogre GBA - $13
Breath of Fire GBA CIB - $13

I didn't find anything up till Friday so here's what I got since then.

strategy guides for the Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles, Assassin's Creed and Okami from a local thrift store for 30 cents each.

Lunar: Silver Star Harmony premium edition for $40 from gamestop. I've wanted to play this game for a very long time and so far it has not disapointed me.:)

all this is from a flea market I went to on Saturday.

Space Channel 5 Special Edition PS2 discs only $3

Random tub of stuff $15 Inside the tub was a super multitap and 1 official controller for SNES, 3 official NES controllers, two zappers (1 grey and 1 orange) and 7 NES games (all common but I didn't have any of them)and working PS1 with some Need for Speed game that didn't work.

considering how the week started I think I did pretty well.

Hmm, I think this is worth putting up. A weird small lot I picked up for just $33. First time buying something from a PNT (and one I haven't visited before on top of that) without negotiating the price down for anything, at all. (Although, I do have membership and got a bonus $10 off thanks to a new promo they're running.) Would've cost me a bunch more online, especially paying S&H on everything. LOL

NES: Sector Z loose
SNES: R-Type IIIloose (practically mint, too)
Gen/MD: Mickey Mania loose
N64: Rayman 2 loose, Donkey Kong 64 loose
PS1: Tenchu CIB, Bushido Blade CIB, D CIB, Gex CIB

Japanese Saturn: Nights into Dreams... CIB, even with the spine card I think they call it.

D's cover is pretty beat up, but the three discs themselves are in great shape. It's one of those really old enormous cases... that doesn't even fit on a DVD shelf. (Gex comes in the same size box.) :grrr:

Averaging it all out, just over $3 each? Ha!

Ah, so you did go there. Shame... I wanted that R-Type 3. Should've grabbed it while I was there, but Final Fight CD was more important.

Wow..Been a while since I been on the DP boards..But I back! Varying up my collection for a change. One of the Play n Trades were having a PS2/Original Xbox blowout day..All used PS2/Xbox games were $2. So with credit and 53 cents, I snagged:

Shadow of the Colossus (PS2)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (PS2)
Suikoden IV (PS2)
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus (PS2)
Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Shadow Hearts: From The New World (PS2)
Pirates! (Xbox)

And for an extra $2, I also snagged another Final Fantasy VII Greatest Hits..The price was right. Make good trade fodder. :D

Oh yes. :D

Was pleasantly surprised to see what is still inside the import Nights case. I left you that copy of Deadly Towers, though. ROFL

Too many lame sports games in the NES -> N64 section. At least they had more SNES to pick from than my store does. I'll be going back real soon, I found out the guy buys PC games and wow do I have a lot of those I wanna sell.

So I bought a couple PAL Playstation games last month, but the store didn't have a British console to play them on. Today I went to their sister store and whattayaknow, there's the PAL console! It comes with a SCART plug (which does me no good over here) and a mystery power supply that obviously didn't belong. It's also got a memory card and a copy of Madden 99 inside it. It ended up costing $25.99. A bit high for a PS1, but considering it's an import and I'd imagine pretty difficult to find in the wild, I'd say it's not too bad of a price.

I picked up a bare Flashback 2 console for $1.99 and an Excalibur bowling LCD game, boxed, for $2.99. The most interesting thing I ended up getting was the Philips Pronto universal remote, a touch-screen device that can be programmed and looks to have a very PDA-style interface and programmability. It looks to be a few years old, but that's fine with me, considering that most of my electronics are the same vintage. That was $10.29.

Got my new Cobalt Flux in the mail today. My old one is almost 7 years old and completely falling apart. Thought about tracking down a used Blueshark decided to go with durability instead of the arcade feel.

I'm kinda pissed that they packed the arcade mod kit seperatly and didn't install it for me, but it's not a big deal. It'll just be nice to finally be playing doubles after all these years.

Ouch, my condolences on Soul Fighter. I bought that one not too long after the DC launch, and it's pretty bad. The controls suck royally. I'd hoped it would be kind of Golden Axe-like, but it was just worthless. I haven't played it since late 1999, it's just too painful to stir up memories like that.

I was at the swapmeet and I saw a box of the OG Robotech toys. So I was checking them out and there was something wrong with ever piece. They where awsome though. The guy with the motorcycle backpack. Never even actualy seen one. Trust me they where f'd up. So I decided to dig further in the box. Saw some Atari games. Bunch of crap. Combat Pac-Man Centipede, Custer's Revenge. Wait. Dug some some found Beat'em & Eat'em. Kept digging didn't find any more. Took all 8 to the lady and asked how much. By now I was very excited. She said 5$ a piece! For the 6 crap games no way. The she said 20$ for all. Nah. I had to go for it. I asked how much for these 2. The lady repied 7$. I paid and walked away with a big f'n grin on my fase. I stopped back by 3 other times later, looking for ant straglers. But nothing.

I did the lot sale again today.

All I found were 2 gaming-related items.

Legend of the Dragoon (PSX) disc 2 - $0.50

and a minty TRS-80 CCR-82 cassette recorder for $1. Seriously, this thing is in excellent shape and it looks like it was barely used, comes with it's fake leather case thing. It'll probably go to eBay or sold here if someone really needs it.

6 mint and complete older Genesis games at Goodwill - $1.99 each. Sword of Vermillion even had the hint book with it. All will be for sale at the MWGC this weekend, but most of the games in the picture are actually former members of my Genesis collection...the picture came after some sweet condition upgrading!

edit: Also forgot to mention the absolutely beautiful CIB Chrono Trigger (SNES) that I won on egay, too :) Yeah, I paid an ebay price for it, but it was completely worth it. Plus, I've never played it before!

Well, it's one of those things that I don't find DC games that I need in the wild very often at all anymore, so when I do, I grab em. Because of their short lives, I am trying to complete the US collection of the Dreamcast and the Saturn so I need em all....

Local gamestop gave me two over their huge over sized pokemon boxes. I should bug them about free stuff more often.

Well, I saw and ad on Kijiji listing "50 gallon blue bin full of videogame and dvd stuff for sale" mentioning things like simpsons/futurama/south park dvd boxsets, ps2 guitar hero and guitars, boxed nes games, snes system, gamecube light up sign, PS2 system with controllers, other stuff for $75" He didn't have a picture or anything, but it seemed like a lot of stuff, so I said Id take it (I've kinda wanted a spare PS2 for the spare bedroom to watch dvd's on). He emailed back and said his brother wanted the PS2, but I could have everything else for $40. I figured why not. I really wanted the light up sign the most anyways, and it would be worth $40 to me I figure.

Just one problem. He said I had to come TODAY to get it. Normally, that's not a problem, but one of our cars is in the shop for repairs, and my partner took my car to get to work.
So, I was left with...the Vespa.

I carried ALL of this home, across town, on it.

It works, it's awesome.
Everything else was just a bonus :D
Funny thing is too, when I got there, he opens the bin, and right on top is the sign.
He says "you probably don't want this, right?" And almost throws it!

That Gamecube sign is sweet!
Today I found Double Strike (NES) $5 & Mr Do! (SNES) $15 (more than I wanted to pay, but I've been wanting this one for awhile, also very minty.)
Both games were loose. I found these at a Disc Replay store. This is the kind of store where they are not interested in the instructions and will hand them back to you if you trade in cartridge games, they will keep them for disc games of course. I traded in a Tetris (NES) w/ instructions and they gave them back. The Mr. Do! looks like its brand new, makes me wonder if they didn't accept the "worthless" instructions and box.

Snagged today at a hole-in-the-wall game shop I've never seen before(probably cause they just opened in December):

God Hand (PS2) - $5.99
Robotech: Battlecry (Xbox) - $1.99

Was TRYING to keep to RPGs, but I hear a lotta good things about God Hand and can't seem to really locate it around here...And I dunno where my copy of Robotech went, but I demand more Veritech action!

Cyber Core - card only, from ebay as usual for the TG16.

The remaining five games were $5 each. All are complete.

Phantom Brave (PS2) - good game, but so long... I don't know when I'll find the time for this.
Capcom Fighting Evolution (PS2) - not great, but not terrible. Needed more characters. I like the gameplay, which is solid classic stuff, but it just needs more content and a lot more options. Why is there only one single-player mode, no color edit, no groove edit, etc, etc?
Red Ninja: End of Honor (Xbox) - bad, but oh well.
Project Gotham Racing 2 / Xbox Live Arcade (Xbox) - I'm not a realistic racing fan... the XBLA demos are entertaining, though. Too bad now it's impossible to play the full versions of the games because Xbox Live for the original Xbox has been taken. :(
Frogger Beyond (Gamecube) - Very much like Frogger 1 (PSX/PC) and Frogger 2 (PSX/PC/DC), which is a good thing... Frogger talks, which is bad, and the new look for Frogger is horrible, and some of the music is awful, but the actual gameplay is good, solid challenging Frogger fun.

For the below games, all cartridge games were cart only. The Xbox games were complete.

Last Friday (3/19)
--

All of this was $31 total.

NES
--
Gargoyle's Quest II - Not quite as good as the first game on the GB, but still quite good.
Gyruss - The best version of an arcade classic!

SNES
--
Magic Sword - very good game...

N64
--
Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion - Great game! Fixes everything wrong with Turok 2.
Dark Rift - entertainingly bad Toshinden ripoff. Terrible, sure, and frustrating (such annoying AI...), but it's just amusing enough to be worth getting anyway.

Xbox
--
Grabbed by the Ghoulies - Haven't played this yet, but I've heard mixed opinions.
Guilty Gear X2 #Reload - Great game!

Monday (3/22)
--

$10 total.

NES
--
Bionic Commando - one of the great classics! I like the GB and GBC games better though.
Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road - mediocre, sure, but classic... though Iron Tank and Guerrilla War are definitely SNK's best NES run&gun games.

N64
--
Buck Bumble - Okay game, seems fun. Haven't played much of it yet.

Yesterday (3/23)

Genesis
--
Pirates! Gold - complete (with map and manual), $4 -- Got it because of the price of course... the game's good, I know, but I do have it for the PC (the version that was included with the special edition of the 2004 Pirates! game, anyway). I've played it a little, seems great. Good graphics, good gameplay, lots to do... It makes me want to play the 2004 game again, too. :)

This probably won't change your opinion of it, but that type sign is really common (and cheap) on eBay. I know because I bought one just like it with the Atari logo a few months ago at my local flea.

But for $40 you can't complain. You could sell those Futurama sets and make back your money easily.

I think I remember seeing some advertised on eBay a while back and the company said that they would do custom ones and the prices weren't that bad. Since their ad showed some Sega signs and I am guessing that they weren't licensed, I don't think that they are worried about property rights for logos, etc.

I'm assuming it was because you gave them Tetris loose without a box. I've purchased a few things in box at Disc Replays and they usually come complete (sans the few SEGA games missing their instruction). I want to say I've seen loose games with instruction manuals here and there, but I'm not really sure. Perhaps I'm just thinking of all the strategy guides that one of my Disc Replays sells.

Of course I've probably never been to your regular Disc Replay to compare...

Yeah, I was thinking that actually, as I've seen signs with the same hardware.
Glad you could clarify.
I still really like it :)
And yeah, Futurama will be for sale :X (I already have em..but I am keeping simpsons)

edit: I found the ebay seller I think you were talking about. $6.99 + shipping from China
