The US version of Sega Rally is said to be rushed/incomplete and the Japanese one is better.

Yeah, but we got the Japanese version of Sega Rally (named Sega Rally Plus) in the Netlink version of Sega Rally released here. The differences are very minor though.

For the most part, the USA releases are better, because they were released after the JPN releases (so there was extra time to fix things, if necessary). In rare cases (like JPN Doom), the game actually came out in the USA first and the JPN version was improved before its release.

...Really now?

Not like it would matter much anymore, with ZDoom and such.

Are we talking about the Saturn port of Doom?
The US release of that had serious slowdown issues. Some levels were unplayable.

yep saturn doom,
The japanese version is even system linkable,
I found a ver of the japanese doom online, but i dont have the usa ver to compare it to.
still seemed choppy.

back in the day i played the jaguar ver as to me it was best all around port untill the psx ver. do love the 3do sound track.

That's because it's just the American version of the game with the region code switched to Japan. The GT Interactive splash gives it away. Not to go into the realm of the forbidden, but I have never found a real Jp Saturn copy via the usual suspects and beyond. I have so many versions of Doom that I can't justify buying the import to see if the whole thing isn't just a big hoax, but damnit I would love to try it. I know there are youtube videos, but it remains dubious to me until I see it running. The Saturn could totally handle it, but again, I won't believe it until I see it.

The Jp Plus version of Sega Rally is ace btw. Also, even though the graphics are pretty tough to handle now, the original Daytona USA for the Saturn still has the best control of any home version. It's very sad. CCE is good, but the control is not Daytona, and Genki really ruined the gorgeous DC version with the controls (which also are apparently better in the US version - could have fooled me). Sucks that any forthcoming version could look & play in a most excellently, but would be Sega Racing Classic due to the licensing BS. The Dinosaur Canyon music just isn't the same without the ridiculous Daytona vocals.

You might want to try the JPN version of Daytona Circuit Edition. You get the extra tracks, plus (unlike the USA version), they kept the gameplay of the first game.

Here's a link with a better explanation:

I have the the JPN only Circuit Edition and it does NOT play like the original release Daytona USA. Plus the sense of speed is completely gone even though the graphics are sharper. I disliked the handling of the Dreamcast version also.

You have to adjust the drift. There is an option to do this in the JPN version (but not the USA version).

Yeah, the original Saturn port, although it doesn't look pretty, still plays the best. I still love it though.
