It shouldn't be surprising to anyone that the Wii's 5th year will likely be its greatest year yet, and then it will start slowly fading away into its inevitable obsolecence. Its last gen architecture keeps it in line with the old business models of a 5 year life cycle, and its trendy next gen controllers won't be able to keep it competitive with MS & Sony's next gen architecture paired with their new trendy motion control schemes.
This is all great news for the Wii though, since it means after this year the only new $50 games coming out for it will be the few produced by Nintendo themselves, and the rest will all be the same $20 third party budget titles still flooding the shelves, though in far fewer numbers. So it will be more affordable than ever to continue collecting games for the Wii as long as it lasts, while the competition's new games get more and more expensive to keep up with. And why do EA and all the other major third party publishers think their $50 games aren't selling as well as they'd like? It's not because nobody wants to buy all their games, it's because most people can't afford to until their prices drop to $20!

Haven't we heard this whole "the Wii fad will be over this year" for the last 2+ years? Of course we have. If the PS2 survived for 10 years(admittedly with a much better library of games) than I don't see why the Wii can't get there too. Of course, by then we'll probably be getting Wii Fit and Lean 5 and Wii Future Sports 7 but it will still be around.

Isn't 2010 one of the better years for the Wii in terms of game launches? I currently have 20+ games in my wishlist. Most average people's collections are smaller than that.
Hey Iron where's all those Wii game reviews you were going to give us? It came up in your "my parents got me this..." thread about a yr ago.

Yet another "WII'S GONNA FAIL" rumor.

The Wii is the least powerful system, but I think we have now reached the point where the traditional console cycle rules need to be more flexible because we have reached the point where developers can basically pull off what they want without having to deal with system limitations. Developers are now just pushing polygons just for the sake of pushing polygons.

2010 doesn't look bad for the Wii, infact it's looking best for the system. Where every other year has maybe one or two games that look like they're really worth getting, there are atleast four that I think I'd pick up if I owned the system. Though I'd wait for them to drop to 19.99 like I have been for most games I've been interested in for the PS3.

This is looking to be one of the better years for the Wii...especially if Zelda does make it out by the end of the year.

With Shiggy's little system of no projected dates he talked about a while back, I see it as a 50/50 chance.

Like others have said, 2010 actually looks like one of the bettet years so far, and could easily turn into the best, if thinks continue like they have been.
It's only the 1Q of the year, and atleast 4 very worth while games have come out. I'm sorry, but an average of 1 very good game a month is extremely good in my book(especially considering the era we are in, you really can't imagine any better start then that).

For software, this is the year for Wii. We will get a mario, metroid, and zelda this year. That has to be good for sales. Also, with Monster Hunter Tri coming in april, I have a feeling that the Wii is not going anywhere soon. The wii is still rolling along way out in front as pertaining to sales numbers. It is only going on its fourth year, and typically that is when good software shows up for a console. People can say what they want about the console, but sales speak for themselves.

One thing that does need to be mentioned is that there very well could be a fade in the Wii. From sales leader by a long shot to sales leader by a slim margin.
That's the thing about selling a huge number of consoles, when you sell slightly less the next year, suddenly you're fading.
So far this year, the Wii has yet to be outsold by the PS3 or the 360. The closest the weekly gap has been is 70,000 units, and that was this week. Put another way the Wii is still selling 35% more than it's closest rival.

Wait for the end of Wii to determine whether it's library is greater or less than the PS2. PS2 is the obvious bar, sure, but saying it's fading or lacking is like judging a competition in the middle of the brackets. For me, it's on track to meet, if not overtake.

I love nintendo, always have always will.
But i don't know what worse the wii period or the n64 period.
I mean when i had a n64 there where so few games out there.
You saw ps1 dump games and thought man i would settle for dump crap just to play something new on my n64.
Now with the wii there is so much shit its unbelievable.
I can't believe people are happy with all those dump/shovel games 0f $20 .
Whats even worse are those $10 games like birthday wii etc.
When i see this in a store i only shake my head NO no no.
I walk out of there real quick.because What i would like to do is grap that garbage walk to the store owner and shout: How dare you sell this shit man, jesus.
If i where shop owner i would not even tollerate this garbage in my store.

This is why the internet is awesome. You can sift right past the mini-games collections that make up most of the Wii aisle at Best Buy and get right at the good stuff, and there's plenty of good stuff out there.
If the only Wii games I play this year are Sin and Punishment 2 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, it will still have justified itself. Galaxy 2 is just a sweet, sweet bonus.

Exactly, people have been saying this since the Wii's launch. Will the Wii sell lightly less this year? Possibly, but only because 70 million + people already have one!
And the line-up this year is already looking fantastic and we know virtually nothing about what's to come in the second half of the year. It's going to be a good year for the Wii!

I think software sales will be the best the Wii has ever had but I think that hardware sales are slipping. I have no source but I thought that I read that Nintendo had slowed production, well that right there says that the Wii is starting to slip. But going from selling crap loads to only selling shit loads is still doing very well.

I think as long as the Wii is the cheapest system on the market and people are tight with their $$, it'll continue to sell pretty steadily. It's been slowly dropping off in Japan for a while now, and I think the same will happen here in North America. For the short term the Wii is gonna probably be fine, I just think because of its last generation technology, it won't be around as long as the PS3 and 360? But who knows?

the wii slipped in the beginning of 09, but rebounded at the end of the year with the release of new smb wii. hardware was sold out throughout the holiday and units are just now reappearing on store shelves

Hey Iron where's all those Wii game reviews you were going to give us? It came up in your "my parents got me this..." thread about a yr ago.
Well, my parents got me a bunch of books about how the Wii's gonna fade next year.
That's okay though, because my parents will get me the Wii 2.0.
