NAVA = North Atlantic Videogame Aficionados. It's FREE, and YOU are invited to attend. Previously at NAVA...

- 7-year old Mark So surprised a few NAVA regulars and got all the way to the quarter-finals in the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom tournament. His older brother Matthew won.
- The store's previous high score on the Mercs arcade cabinet was shattered. 685,000 on a single quarter!
- Games and systems traded hands between attendees who brought their own trade boxes.
- Pictures tell it best:

Since a few key Digital Press personnel will be out of town (we're exhibiting at PAX East, the Penny Arcade Expo in Boston) on the usually scheduled NAVA date, we're pushing it back a week. That places the March NAVA just after April Fool's day. That kinda fits us, doesn't it?

This month's arcade high score challenge will be Congo Bongo. This game will be set up for FREE PLAY for the whole day. The person who logs in the highest score by 8pm will get a $20 gift certificate for the Digital Press store and will be added to the new "house champion" tournament plaque on the Wall of Fame located just above the arcade section of the store. Get your practicing in now so you can put the high score up at NAVA!

As we're all going to be in a jovial April Fool's kind of mood, how about an off-the wall tournament to go along with it? That said, we'll be rocking The Typing of The Dead at 6PM. The tournament will be a combination of head-to-head high scoring as well as Drill and Boss mode stages. May the best typist win!

Get your trade boxes in order. Get your game face on. It's NAVA time!

When: Saturday, April 3rd, noon to midnight.
Where: Digital Press Videogames: http://tinyurl.com/yscakm
What happens: Gaming, trading, tournaments, big prizes! Extra game stations are set up around the store. Attendance is FREE. Half price for kids!
What can I bring?: Snacks, soda and beer are always appreciated. Cakes have been very popular as well.

No replies? Me stunned....

Anyways, this will be the first one in a while I'm going to attend. Hopefully, my DSi will be repaired by that time(UPS claims it's coming tomorrow), so I'll be taking pics. I plan on signing for the Typing of the Dead. I'm pretty good at it...then again anyone with a Blackberry can probably do better, but I'll give it a shot. I'm going into TRAINING!! *Cue "Eye of the Tiger" and video montage with a Dreamcast and keyboard.*

Anyone up for a little Saturn Bomberman for 10 players? We had this set up at PAX and it was a huge hit. I've already got all the taps and controllers but I'm not setting it up if there isn't some real action!

Bomberman sounds good. I'm always up for good multiplayer games.

AH, Congo Bongo is one of my favorites (truth be told it's my PREFERRED giant monkey game) time to practice up!

Sure...I've played the game 9 million times and still haven't gotten any better than the first time, I might need a little tutorial.

This month's arcade high score challenge will be Congo Bongo.
Oh dear...that game drives me bonkers.

Speaking of Congo Bongo, I'm looking for any Sega cartridges for the VIC-20 (Buck Rogers, Congo Bongo, Star Trek). If anyone has any available, bring them along.

A little plug if I may. I just finished cleaning out my room and have a whole BAG full of stuff to sell off. I got a ton of stuff at rock bottom prices. Check it out! I'll be wearing a Ghostbusters shirt that looks like a comic book cover as well as being....well...rather big boned so you won't miss me.

I tried training for it. I don't know whether it's the keyboard or not....long story short... I suck....

I had a BLAST at NAVA. This was the first NAVA in a long while that I stayed during it's entire length. I played a bunch a fun playing a ton of Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, and DS multiplayer games like Bleach: Dark Souls, 'L.O.L', F-Zero: Maximum Velocity, Power Quest, and more against a bunch of NAVA regulars. I need to consider getting a second 'working' Neo Geo Pocket Color and second copies of some games I got for it so I can finally use my link cable for it. We need to have Dance Dance Revolution at a NAVA one of these days. I can supply two new practically unused PS2 soft pads for such an occasion.

Take note, that you can look at the pictures without having a Facebook account!

To Joe and anyone else here that uses the Digital Press blogs, can someone tell me how you post entries on it? I made an account a half of a year ago but I still don't know how to post on it and I really want to contribute writing to the site.

To Joe exclusively, I wanted to provide you some links to the Hi-Ten Bomberman games I mentioned you. Not only was it the first 10 player bomberman game but it was also apparently the first high definition game ever made [who knows how true that is though]. Article at http://www.pcenginefx.com/PC-FX/html/pc-fx_world_-_f_r_-_hi-ten_bom.html. Video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijWXi-vUzrM. Interesting, huh?

I wanted to give a plug to Chris from NAVA [not sure if he has ever joined this forum or not]. He told me at NAVA that he made some video reviews of games at http://www.youtube.com/user/optitube and I find they are pretty darn good. Makes me want to get back into video game reviewing!

No in fact, I think the top 6 scores were all yours.

Nice.

I fully expect to drop the title in the next challenge (unless the game is Bionic Commando or Saturday Night Slam Masters).

I tip my hat to all of the competition yesterday. Congo Bongo can be pretty damned brutal.

Like most games of that era getting through more than 2 "cycles" takes some practice. I think my best run that day was 4 cycles. And with the isometric view that game sports, the Digital Press MAME cabinet analog sticks didn't make the experieince any easier without 4 way limiters.

I'm certainly no CB expert, but with that joystick I had no chance.
