North American Nintendo 64
Gameshark v 2.1
Custom Robo works fine, however Sin & Punishment just gives me a black screen. Since I had someone get me the game from Yahoo Auctions Japan (much cheaper than eBay), I can't return it. Hopefully it's the gameshark and not the game...
So, could this be a compatibility issue? What import adapter is recommended?
Thanks in advance.

Is Sin and Punishment an official Nintendo 1st party release? Those required Key Codes turned on while a different game was on the GS - at least the US ones did. Do a search for "Key Codes" and you'll see the crazy process.

If you have the proper security bits (or a driver) for N64 cartridges, the easiest thing to do is swap the back half of the cartridge case with a US game, avoiding the Gameshark altogether. Alternatively, you can open your N64 and remove the two notches that prevent you from inserting a Japanese cartridge (you can do this destructively or non-destructively, depending on your desire to keep your console "original" or not).
Actually, now that I think about it, that second method would require the use of a security bit anyway, in order to open the console. You can take wire/tin snips, or a hot soldering iron, and either cut or melt the offending notches to achieve the same result.

Try with another Gameshark.
They are so cheap.
The 3.0 comes with a VHS and the 3.3 dont. 3.3 is the last, I think.

I took a knife and screwdriver to my N64 and cut out the plastic security tabs. Works great. Total cost... 0.00
I love that game.

I love that game.
I also went this route and highly recommend it.
