View Full Version : Can the gamecube read CDs?
Well, I was about to put my Action Replay into my Gamecube when I saw the top of the cd said Compact Disc. So does this mean Action Replay is on a cd or that the Company made a mistake?

I don't think they will fit in the drive. They do make the mini cds though. Hmmmmm.

Supposedly mini dvd-r's can be read but then again that might just be an urban legend. :)

They won't fit. I was curious about that when I first got my 'Cube, and I tried to fit one in there, but no go. I've been meaning to try out a mini-disk, would they play mini disk music?

Mini-Disc media come in plastic cases, and you don't actually handle the disc itself, only pop the whole shebang into the player. So even if you were you break the disc out of the case (!), I doubt the Gamecube would read it.

It will not read dvd or cd media
I took the lid off mine and checked a while back.
It will spin up then tell you to put a cube disk in .

well, this doesn't mean that it couldn't play them if you had the right boot software

They're talking about something entirely different here. MD (aka minidisc) is a totally different animal. Even if you opened one up, a CD player wouldn't read it. They're talking about the 3" CD-Rs that Memorex and others make.

The thing is...GameCube GD-ROM discs read backwards from what normal CD-ROMs and DVDs read. So, right there you've got a problem.

not really a problem you'd just have to tell ur boot disk/software so and burn the cd's on your pc with a mirrored bit-order (this of course would require a burn tool which is able to do so, but it would be possible)

Datel spent thousands of dollars to buy a duplicator capable of pressing GC discs. Never say never, but it's unlikely that the GC will ever be cracked.

I think his question is, if the Action Replay disc says "CD" on it (it's a Gamecube size disc so we're not talking about a size issue), does that mean that it could play CD style information?
I don't know that it says CD on it. Or, if it does, that it's not just one of those labels they throw on all of their products and didn't bother changing it for the 'cube. I'll check my AR tonight to see if it's got the CD logo or not.
UPDATE: I did look last night and the AR disc *does* have the CD logo on it (which implies that the 'cube can read CDs). Was it included by accident do you think or can the 'cube read the format?
