I got this game right before new years day for $8 from my local thrift store. I knew it was a good game but I never checked how rare it was or how much it sold for.

Well I was just going to start playing it but I decided to look it up on ebay out of curiosity and I was shocked to see that it's selling for $58-$95 so then I immediately looked it up in the online rarity guide here on dp and it says that it's a R3 and a complete copy should sell for $18.

So what's going on here? is it a case of high demand driving up prices or is the guide wrong and it's really higher than an R3 and should sell for more than $18 or are they both wrong and it should be somewhere in between! i'm so confused.:help:

Tales of Destiny II isn't a particular rare game, but it's a decent PS1 RPG that has been having more and more visibility due to the popularity of the Tales series. I still have my copy, but copies of Tales of Destiny II were selling for $50 4 years ago locally. I'm not sure where the guide got the price from.

Average price seems to be ~$66

I don't think the PlayStation section of the guide has been updated in years. I don't know if the rarity should be changed, but the value definitely should be whenever someone gets around to it.

But yeah, Tales games in general are pretty desirable, and the PS1 games aren't as common as some of the later US releases.

Thank you guys for the quick replies.

I thought that may have been the case. I noticed the prices in the guide can be a bit off sometimes but it normally seems to be spot on in the rarity department and normally I wouldn't question it but an R3 seemed to be a pretty low number to me considering there are only 8 copies on ebay right now so it got me curious. anyway seems like I got a really good deal then. that's good to know.:)

There were a lot of copies produced but it never got a Greatest Hits re-release or anything. R3 is probably about right but, of course, the price is way off. To be blunt, i wouldn't use the prices on the guide unless it was for really old games (pre-NES). I've never found them to be correct.

Prices in how the guide is currently managed are not ones that handle such fluctuations. When Classic is finalized i'll finally start to worry about balancing the prices of the PS games that have gone up in value (mostly just the RPG's) for the advanced guide. The rarities are all pretty spot on though. Those had alot of discussion before they were initially done for Classic back in 03-04.
