I happen to live here, so I don't have to go far for me to check out the Expo! :guitar:

I know there are a few other members here as well... looking forward to meeting some of you guys!

I will be in Vegas for a weekend in April, so sadly I will miss the expo.

Can you suggest any (video) gaming-related attractions I should check out (arcades, stores, etc.)? I'll be staying at the Venetian.

Thanks,

I found one old thread discussing a similar question:

Well you can check out Gameworks, it's a Sega arcade on the strip. It's kind of in an odd place though, (sort of underneath one of the hotels I think Planet Hollywood).. it's pretty cool if you are into Sega arcade gaming. They don't maintain their games too well there though which kind of sucks.

There are a ton of classic gaming stores around town, but you'll need a rental car to get around to check them out. One is not TOO far from the strip called Gameworld. It's pretty cool they basically have just about everything although sometimes they price things a little too high. If you want to venture even further away from there strip there are a bunch of other places like Game Haven, Game Repair, Game Over, and some others.

Not on couchsurfing.com, but I do have a Futon in my game room. But I'd have to think real hard about letting an internet stranger sleep in the same room as my entire game collection.. :king:

well, i'm in az but I make it out to las vegas a few times a year. circus circus has an excellent and pretty large arcade on the midway level. a nice mix of old and new as well as some air hockey tables in the middle of everything. they have a lot of the classics from the eighties and up... there is almost a hallway of eighties games (ms. pac man, ms. pac-man and galaga, missile command, donkey kong, etc) you have to walk through to get to the main arcade itself. also, in the adventure dome (the indoor theme park at circus circus) there is a mario bros/donkey kong cabinet and ms. pac-man cabinet. unfortunately, all the ms. pac man cabinets have the speed up chip.

the midway level also features tons of carnival games, a mcdonalds and that revolving bar that is featured in fear and loathing in las vegas. the problem with circus circus, though, is that it is littered with children and the arcade can be a bitch in the afternoons.

also, i think most people are aware of this, but the pinball hall of fame is located in vegas and it recently moved closer to the strip, though i have yet to visit either location.

:o Pinball Hall of Fame? I never even knew, I am gonna have to check that out. I forgot about Circus Circus, although I have heard that the arcade is nothing like it used to be, but I wouldn't know because suprisingly I have never checked it out.

I used to live in Vegas from 2007 to April of last year and, gaming wise, there wasnt really too much to speak of. I fully agree with the opinion on Gameworld as I think that was only one of two independently owned stores I found. Gameworks is still pretty nice though as well. I have no desire to go back anytime soon BUT I might to just go check out the CGE :)

So you must have moved right about when Gameworld moved into their new location on Charlston. Their new place is HUGE compared to the old one. And they also have a video game arcade attached to the side of it.

You are right. However, my girlfriend and I had to go back to pick up the last of our stuff and I needed a DC controller so I tracked down the new location. I have to admit it is MUCH nicer now and I probably would have visted it more often...

Hi,

I live in Vegas too. I started on the Atari 2600 and have been actively collecting classic games since the 90s. I would be interested in meeting with other locals to trade games and drink beer :)

I nearly made a move to Vegas a few weeks ago with a job offer, but I turned it down in the last min. Having been to Vegas n times, I'd say the strip and the rest of the city are completely different worlds. In fact, many roads have bypass going above or below Las Vegas Boulevard to avoid traffic congestion (or craziness).

I have not visited strip since 2008 even though I visit Vegas many times during study break or just want to chill out, I found hotels outside Vegas overlooking the strip more charming than staying in/around the strip.

Well it was nice to meet some of you guys from Vegas. Not sure who was all on the forums or not. I was the guy monitoring and setting up all the game console stations. Good times! So sad it's over. :(
