Alot of oldschool RPGs had a tendency to leave alot to the imagination (Wizardry and Dragon Warrior being such examples) and the idea of how a mere slime goes about killing someone is one of those things I've always pondered. So I ask, how exactly does a slime pull this off?

1) Envelope someone's face and gag them.
2) Blunt trauma
3) My personal favorite...enter the body through an open oriface and take control of the body like a parasite/puppet.

Or 4) They are acid-based, so burning your face off.

that seems to be the most common consensus and is officially backed up by the various dungeons and dragons monster manuals

or they are like gelatinous cubes in that they paralyze you, and then suffocate the life out of you and eat your gear.

I consider slimes as poisonous and can have a tremendous effect on the character if attacked by one of those slimes.

According to the movie "The Blob", it absorbs them quite painfully.

Yep, I always assumed they were somehow poisonous or hurt you with their touch. When you get better armor or more HP it's not such a big deal, though.

I prefer the images of my hapless players wandering right into them.

Being a DM rules.

Just as jello has hunks of fruit floating around in it, so too does a slime have shrapnel embedded in it, such as razor blades, hypodermic needles, scratch awls, rusty machetes, and even the occasional mechanical pencil.

Sometimes the slime will enter every oriface if the character is a female. Doesn't seem to take off much damage.

A better question is, how exactly could a slime dodge, especially if it was asleep?

I can imagine one neatly deforming temporarily such that the attacker's weapon passes through empty space.

Jell-O's summons Bill Cosby to force feed you some pudding. As a result you get diabetes.

... by depleting your HP?

... ... ...

... durp.

Of course, this also tends to beg questions how to "USE" certain items...

Cute type Slime could increase their Hero Kill Rates by 1000% by making Kitteh-Gats standard equipment.

Perhaps by slipping on it and hitting your head on a rock?

Are there any RPG's in which you can kill them by sprinkling them with salt and watch them disgustingly yet satisfyingly disolve and turn inside out?
