I came across a huge lot of games at an antique mall. Earthbound was one of them.
What's this game REALLY worth?
It isn't rare according to the rarity guide. But it fetches a pretty high dollar amount on eBay.
Another question: Is the high dollar value of this game based solely on the fact that this game has not appeared on Virtual Console?

Did you buy it? And how much was it?

Like most high dollar SNES games, it's not that rare.....but, it fetches a good amount based on game play. It's actually a precent decent little game with a great concept.
You can expect $70 - $80 on eBay.

It is "worth" whatever someone is willing to pay for it. At this point, I'd say $80~90 for cart only. I think the interest was spurred by the inclusion of earthbound characters in the last Smash bros game, and then further flamed by the lack of a Wii download release. Before the Smash Bros game you could get Earthbound for $50 or less.

It went from 50 to 80 because of the fan translation of the japan only sequel mother 3.

I've got a loose copy. Maybe I should sell it. I never play it anyway?

A bunch of random programs and games.
A whole bunch of burned games. . . that will be trashed.
It also came with a bunch of burned cds, floppy disks, photographs, cassette tapes (middle aged woman type tapes, Titanic soundtrack, weight loss tapes etc.) VHS tapes, and an old video card box that housed someone's collection of porno dvds.
As rude as it may be to say, I paid $100 for the lot.
I was just curious about Earthbound, as it seems to go for quite a bit of money. I knew a kid who absolutely adored the game when it came out. It seems I got quite a deal if Earthbound goes for around $80 alone. . . I think it was a pretty good deal regardless.

Thanks!
I consider myself very lucky. It was part of a family's auction lot. The place stopped doing auctions, so they were taking offers. They took my first offer. . . I should have offered $50 bucks.
I really should have looked around more. Who knows what I could have found!
Always keep an eye out. You may find something surprising in some very unlikely places. The place I found this lot at mostly had furniture and glassware. I would have never gone in there if my girlfriend didn't like retro furniture so much.

Yeah, that would definitely be a great haul even without Earthbound. Looks like whoever owned it before was serious about his/her games for many years. Lots of RPGs and plenty of other quality titles too (and I'm talking both in terms of gameplay and in value).

Whoever you bought this from, got owned by you in the process. Well done!

That's probably at least $500-$1000 or more worth of stuff there (on first glance)!!!

Thanks for all the comments!
When I was loading it into my car, I almost felt bad. I felt like I ripped them off pretty bad. But hey, they didn't do their research.
I think I may have got a better deal on it all since I told the guy, "Well, with these old games, you never know if they work anymore. The disc games are pretty scratched up. I'll take it all as is."
And the lot was probably sitting in this place for a few years.
The only problem I've run into is Lufia II's battery seems to be dead. I'll have to look into changing it. All the other batteries still have saves on them.

For game collectors, this is one of the best feelings in the world. Such a guilty pleasure.
