I already see the other thread about the GOW3 limited edition, but i want this to be purely about the game experience.

i just picked up mine tonight and beat Poseidon. the game is already really cool. if you like the other GOW games, you will not be disappointed with this.

one thing i did want to mention is the graphics and visuals are very very good, top notch, but it isnt perfect. for instance, when i am moving around or there is alot of action happening, everything starts to get a bit fuzzy. not sure if this was only for the poseidon battle, cuz there was a shit ton of shit happening at once! :)

and one question, should i be playing in 720p, or 1080i? i keep hearing people say play in 720p, that is their native resolution, but will it really make a difference?

Picked this up today. I REALLY enjoyed the epic first hour, leading up to the Poseidon climax (though it was damn near impossible to tell what was going on, it seemed like you conveniently beat the bosses when your own life was low enough)

Then the game immediately and abruptly shifts into "I've played this same game twice already, why am I in Hades AGAIN?" mode. We'll see.

If you like below average gameplay but absolutely amazing graphics, then this is for you.

Such an overrated series, I don't see why people get so excited about these games. Start making better games David Jaffe because playing through the first two games, I only needed to play the demo to see GoW3 sucks as bad as the first two. Another(good) Twisted Metal would be nice.

*edit*

I wonder if David Jaffe ever goes to forums and looks at what people think of his games.

@kupomogli- Your criticism for David Jaffe is a bit misplaced. He only worked on the first God of War, then he did Calling All Cars! I will say that he comes across as somewhat of a developer diva. And yeah, I'm pretty sure he reads what people write about him on the intrawebs, lol.

As to the game, haven't played it yet. But, I wasn't all that blown away by the screen-shots.

The graphics in this game are absolutely amazing. Easily one of the 5 best looking games I've seen this generation (consolewise), from a pure eye candy standpoint. Gameplay seems like it will get a bit redundant. I think I'm going to pass on this game until I can find it used for like $20 in about 12 months.

I don't know...while I like Dante's Inferno, I can immediately tell that, gameplay wise, GoW III is superior. Dante seemed too straightfoward and derivative.

But then again, I'm the one who says GTA is below average as well... :p

i agree whole-heartedly that it is below average gameplay, but sometimes, i do enjoy repetitive easy to pick up gameplay with not much depth. sometimes i like to play a game that i can use one combo the whole game and beat it with relative ease. it makes me feel good! haha!

and seriously, kratos is an awesome hero. it is very pleasing to sit back and watch him take down the gods. and the action is awesome. it is definitely entertaining. games are supposed to be entertaining, right?

I think the GTA series is below average as well. Way below average. GTA4 on the other hand. Amazing.

Out of pure curiosity, are there any games you actually like?

You just quoted me praising GTA4.

Maybe I'll make a top 100 list on DP someday.

I agree that the actual gameplay is kind of....

It's not like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta where you have lots of options (combos) for how you want to fight. In God of War, you can just flail the chains half-way across the screen and kill everything with ease. Not possible in DMC.

Many games this generation are going for the "Interactive Movie" experience where you "play" very little (most of which is extremely linear) and mostly watch things. Like Call of Duty and it's set up moments (a building is burning, you have to run through it and crawl under this burning log to escape). If you fail, it's not fun to see the exact same thing happen again. And like QTEs, it shows you a button on the screen, you press it, then watch the character do do something. It's not like a turn-based RPG where you plan your strategy (which spell, attack, or defend) and are constantly thinking about numbers to come out with a good win.

But I'm not saying games shouldn't be that way. Many people this generation really like the way these new games are designed. They like them to be like interactive movies.

I've beaten the game and it is one hell of a rush. The gameplay gets deeper as you move on and as more weapons are acquired, the graphics and cinematics are amazing. There are some great puzzles as well, but in my opinion the best thing about the game is the story. Every little detail you get along the way really makes for a great ending. It's worth every penny I paid for it.

I don't know why people are complaining about the gameplay?! It's classic God of War hack and slash mayhem. Yeah it's really repetitive at times, but it's also really fun! Why would anyone expect anything different? The previous GOW titles were such great games in every way, why would they mess with a great game formula?! GOWIII is an incredible game though from the gameplay, audio, graphics, story, to the controls.

After last night’ massive God of War III gameplay reveal on GameTrailersTV with Geoff Keighley, anticipation for the latest installment of Kratos’ saga has reached new heights, rising far above the peaks of Mount Olympus. We’ve gathered over 30 screenshots which highlight some of the best moments of the footage released, check ‘em out…
These latest screens contain everything from new weapons, boss fights, even the all new Hermes boots, a tool you’ll use for both platforming and dodging foe’s attacks. Enjoy.

:above me: wtf...

So far I'm enjoying it I'm only on the second level though so I'm not very far along. The game is beautiful and the boss battle I've experienced was epic. One negative I've noticed is that the controls feel a bit clunky to me. Kratos seems to move and attack slower than I remember from GOW 1 & 2. Anybody else notice that or am I just crazy?

i agree. the fps is way down compared to GOW collection on the ps3, but thats expected. there is soooo much more detail in the backgrounds of GOW3. the game is ten times more demanding on the hardware.

if you notice, whenever you are moving, the background "stuff" gets blurry. for everything to be in a sharp focus, you have to be standing still. i hate that. i kinda wish they just minimized the amount of awesome shit they have so the game would run at 60 fps constantly.

The graphics are absolutely incredible... and for me at 720p, I haven't noticed any significant slowdown, only some in the giant bosses but nothing gameplay-breaking.

The gameplay itself is FAR more... "Fluid" than past GoW games. Seriously, the animation and movement is leaps and bound better. The games have always been kind of "meh, it's fun" and really, I'm okay with that. This is nothing new so far and I've played for several hours. But hey, as good as it looks, as fun as it is, and as freakishly epic as the story and landscapes that you're ripping things to shreds in are, I'm perfectly fine with it. A solid modern hack-n-slash.

update.

i am just about done the game, just got the nemesis whips, the last weapons. I am curious, what weapon do you use the most?

i still love the blades of exile. i think they are the most versatile.

FUCK THE FIGHT AGAINST FIFTEEN CYCLOPS RIGHT IN THE ASS.

I've been stuck here for an hour. Now the game is just making me angry.

Ha! just beat this part without dying once playing on hard mode.

use the blades of exile, and us the combo s,t,t,t. its the best in the game.

make sure you hop on the non-armored cyclops so you can use him to fight the armored cyclops.

very few games nowadays do i pick up on release AND play on release. i completed the game on normal difficulty in 3 days. i can understand the gripes that the combat gets a little repetitive, but to me it never seemed too bad in that regard... combat sequences were always offset with a puzzle or platforming sequences... very well balanced i thought.

and even on my shitty 19" standard def CRT i can tell the graphics are amazing... some of the best i have ever seen, and even comparing them to the "HD" updated graphics of gow1 and gow2 in the "unearthing the legend" documentary you can tell that it leaps and bounds above what was accomplished in the first two games. and those games look amazing considering the hardware.
