I am confident that this is the best video I will see on Youtube this year.

Why does it move like a flight sim, when it seems playing a racing game? It doesn't really match what's happening on screen. It's a cool device though, don't get me wrong.

I'd like to know this too. Maybe it's just super-sensitive and over-exaggerating everything.

I think that the motions are supposed to be mimicking the feeling you'd get in a real car - thrown backwards accelerating, forwards when braking, and to the outside of the curve when cornering

Pretty cool. And takes up surprisingly little space for what it is. I just hope they come from some engineering or manufacturing background and didn't just jury rig the thing together, otherwise bad things could happen.

I highly doubt that a car would throw you around that much. I get what it's doing, it just seems a little exaggerated.

I'm wondering if it's a motorcycle game which would make the corners a lot more intense, but that doesn't account for the fact that you're at 60 degrees while accelerating lol

I for one, am waiting for the Michael J. Fox simulator myself.
Also, I love it how it's in this guy's office. The force feedback on Excel must be incredible.

It's not moving forward at speed so you have to get the feel for acceleration somehow. Jerking around like that is probally the only way to get that propper feeling.
Or it could simply be that exact movements would be boring and it's a heck of a lot more fun this way.

That's somewhere between "totally awesome" and "absolutely ridiculous." I haven't actually decided yet.

Heh.
You should see the cabbies in my hometown. I swear I'd fly right out the windows if they didn't have them closed all the time.

I was on this movie ride thing once, it moved like that, and it was fully enclosed. When you're not aware of your orientation to the ground, it feels pretty real.
So yeah, this thing looks goofy, but race cars pull mad G's yo.

I'd buy that, I'd figure if you build it right you could make your money back on that thing!

Imagine something like this with WipEout? Seems to me like this thing would be better suited to any flight game.

They are about halfway to a great idea there.
The essentials are in place. They need to finetune it though. It doesn't represent what is going on in the game very well. It jerks around too much. I would be sick after 5 minutes.

It's in testing and they're speaking (in czech) about the device and settings in the movie (in background) and also that in this setting they (both, who speaks) can't even start the car except the guy who's playing.
The big cost about this device are the 3 of the hydraolic cylinders and the electronics you need to have to control them. They are big and precise that's why they cost so much. I woudl say that they cost 7000 of the total cost.

The thing is, 1 to 1 motion wouldn't make any sense on this. If you're driving 60 mph and made a sharp turn or abrupt stop, how is this thing supposed to recreate that 1 to 1? It can't move you at 60mph. The only way to simulate the forces you would feel are to exaggerate it.

The movement may seem exaggerated, but that's only because the hydraulic movement has to be in order to even somewhat simulate the g-forces you'd experience in even just a stock car on a racetrack (I ran a few laps with a Fiero once, only a 4 banger and it was pretty intense versus normal commuter driving). Even though it is exaggerated, it still is not quite the same. Mash the gas and drop the clutch on a Formula car someday, take a hairpin at close to 70mph... Bring extra pants.

Holy cow. If they could work the kinks out and get it all working spot on (with a longevity to match) I'm there (somehow, someday :P)-believe it or not it's one of the cheaper things going of it's kind.
If you get bored- check out "Force Dynamics". They do something similar (on the more high end). I was quoted $40-50k for the two models I was interested in (one does not pivot on its base- the other does). o O
And yes- it simulates g-forces (albeit for such a device it does seem a bit over exaggerated even for what it is- but I'd imagine it can be adjusted). It's all interesting stuff. Check out Force Dynamics youtube videos and see the rally driving- that'll make you want to try one of these out :P

Does it come with motion sickness bags?
For $9000 I could buy a real car and it would be so much more realistic!

True, but driving like that, it would not be a $9000 car for very long.
