The best part about all of these VGA auctions is that the games aren't new by any stretch of the imagination. First off, they're 15+ years old. Secondly, they're legally "Used" games because they've previously been sold at retail.
Have fun paying $3,000 for something someone else bought, didn't want and is now selling the used product to you as new.

Anyone know if those guys are reputable ? Googling them shows that alot of customers believe they recieved re-sealed games, which VG bought used and then re-sealed them to sell as new [with a huge markup].

Not that I would ever pay that but $ 3.000 doesnt sound like a lot for a copy of Chrono Trigger with vertical seal. Thats because if you look closely, you can see this is actually the "made in Mexico" version which is rather worthless.
Do any of you remember that eBay auction for another sealed copy of Chrono Trigger which was "made in the USA", also VGA-graded and listed for $ 200.000? I wonder if that ever got sold...

I doubt anyone cares whether it was made in the US or Mexico. $3000 is a lot of money for a sealed game, probably in the top tier or near top tier price-wise, especially since a CIB or cart itself isn't particularly rare.

Oh believe me, people care. Take a game like Contra III for instance, the Made in Mexico version goes for below 100 and a nice vertical seem copy for well over 300. The "inferior" Mexican versions have black and white manuals, uglier cartridge labels (not glossy, and kind of blurry).
Chrono Trigger is a special case, since the Made in Mexico version isnt recognizable by a horizontal seem, as its also got a vertical one.

Weren't those made by Majesco? I've never heard of one for Chrono Trigger, although I don't follow these things much.

Ummmm... if it's sealed, you probably aren't ever going to open it, so why the hell would you care what the manual is like?

If they are spending $3000 on Chrono Trigger, logic has already been long damned. When cellophane gives one an erection, it's time to die in a fire. Saran wrap is cheaper. :p

Well I don't know, but sealed collecting has all to do with rarity and perfection. A Majesco release is simply not the best copy you can get.
By the way, pseudonym, I think you're right, this one doesnt seem like its made by Majesco even though its made in Mexico. That explains the vertical seem then, but I still think its weird. As far as I know, every other Mexican release has been a Majesco release. Maybe it has to do with the fact this game came out so late.

Those games with the B&W manuals are the Majesco re-releases (the back of the box should say "Distributed by Majesco Sales"). Many games in the latter SNES life were made in Mexico, not just Majesco re-releases.
The "Made in Mexico" Chrono Trigger has full color manuals, maps, etc:

Legit sealed copies of both are probably worth more than $99 on eBay. I'd consider THOSE fair sealed prices. Slabbing is a fad that will soon die, can't wait to see it happen, heh.

Oh, but they are paying that price! If you look at his feedback, you'll see what dangerous stupids with waaaaayy too much money are really doing when nobody's looking! Look at the d-bag who paid (payed!) a couple grand for a few sealed VGA-approved Mega Man games....my common senses tell me that you don't pay over $600 for a NES game just to crack open the airtight VGA plastic and tear off the cellophane to play the damn game. Look for those to end up back on the bay with probably double the Buy It Now price!

On the Chrono Trigger auction, I saw this for shipping costs:
$22.05US Postal Service Priority MailSee more services
Come on rarebucky, you can't even offer free shipping on a $3,000 item? Other sellers offer free EXPRESS shipping, but you can't even offer free PRIORITY MAIL shipping? Are you really that greedy? What's worse is that you hiked shipping fees, most surely to pay the Paypal/Ebay fees and still make a few bucks on the side. It won't cost you more than, say, $7 to ship, to ANY US destination. Yet you are requesting how much?
I mean really, rarebucky...really...

Are you daft?
Ebay fees for a $3000 video game item: $95.15
Paypal fees for a $3022 Paypal payment: $87.94
Let's say he sells it for half that.
Ebay fees for a $1500 video game item: $65.15
Paypal fees for a $1522 Paypal payment: $44.44
Yeah, dude sure is making a huge profit on his listed shipping fee.

You think rarebucky will loose more profit on just $5? Or for whatever the cost of free shipping?
I know, like ryborg, you guys are pro-seller and don't care much for the buyer (only for their money). But please, offering free shipping (which is around $5-$6) isn't going to break the bank. Specially when profits will be good as it is.
So you guys think $20 shipping is ok? Wow, just wow.

You have a point, but still, he doesn't need to charge so much for shipping if it will be less than half of what he states.
$3,000 + $20 shipping? True ripoff right there.

remember kids, sellers only care about buyers if they charge exact postage and include a coupon for a free beej. otherwise they are scum of the earth and should die in a fire

Charging 3k monies for Chrono Trigger, and you're gonna gripe about ~$20 S&H... LMAO
Really, would you buy it at that rate with even free shipping? I also think you wrongly characterize ryborg there. Any "anti-buyer" seller is not going to sell much of anything. That hurts themselves, not buyers. By his self-reporting, ryborg seems to be doing fine... Too many people want something for nothing in this world.

It's the sellers prerogative to offer free shipping for items. It would help to sell the item sure, but if someone is willing to drop $3000 on a game, another $20 for shipping isn't going to hurt. -_-

Yep. I'm actually really professional on ebay. My DSRs are all 4.8s and 4.9s and my feedback hovers around 99.6-.7%. Sales have been brisk, regardless of the economy. I'm not saying this to brag, but to illustrate that it's possible to charge a nominal handling fee to help cover overhead, make good money overall, and keep everyone happy.
My favorite part of any ebay thread here is when people who haven't sold a single item in their life tell sellers how they should sell. THANKS GUYS.

Doesn't Ebay prevent high shipping charges? I had an oversized package because I was selling a video game with a pre-order bonus, and it refused to let me list over $4 shipping for the whole thing, so I wound up selling it without the bonus.

Does anyone even stop and think about shipping before whining and complaining?
If I'm selling a 3 thousand dollar game, the package is going to be insured and required a signature confirmation so A) I don't get paypal scammed and B) I'm covered in the event (0.01% chance) of something going wrong.
The higher the value of the insured package, the higher the cost to ship. $20 is very reasonable for that.
And just FYI, the last VGA Chrono Trigger that sold at open auction (starting around $99 I think) went for $1,980ish. Probably about 3-4 months ago. There is a cult following with this game indeed.
