Has anyone ever been to the NEONOPOLIS, which is at the other end of the Fremont Street Experience opposite The Plaza Hotel?

They claim to have an entire level as a dedicated arcade, citing "classic video games". Looks like a good place to hang out, too. Who's gonna organize this year's after-show party?!

I've been there, several times, and I don't remember an arcade.

...hell, man, I'll go look again today.

That place, though, is sad. It's an attempt to "clean up" downtown, and it's not going to work. Ever. I give it two more years before it collapses in financial debt.

Okay, I scoped out the arcade today. Their "classic games" consisted of two cabinets: Centipede/Millipede/Missle Command and Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga. They had a fair selection of additional video games, but most of the remainder of the arcade was the ticket-winning kinda crap. The arcade has a really nice layout with couches and a cafe and stuff. HOWEVER, do not go there. They have this card-swiping points system. Five bucks gets you 3,000 points. A game of Galaga, the cheapest machine there, costs 505 points. So you're paying, what, $0.84 for Galaga? And that's THE CHEAPEST THING THERE. Everything else is 1,000+ points.

The arcade is called Jillian's. I hear it's got a reputation, but it's the first in Vegas as far as I know.

There was a bar with a healthy arcade (including a well-stocked classics aisle) called Jillian's in Green Bay, used to go there with a buddy of mine who didn't have a car and always needed a ride. The card-swiping system is a new one on me, though. I don't know if this is a nationwide franchise or not.

Sounds like a Dave and Busters kinda deal. They have the card swiping system and I recall it was a lot more expensive than a normal arcade with 25 or 50 cents a pop would be, but the one I went to didn't have any older games, either. They did have drinks and food, however, making it a fun night! :)

We may have to check out those bowling lanes at Jillian's one night, though!

It is. There's a couple of Jillian's up here in Seattle/Tacoma. They feature an arcade, bar, and pool hall. There is a Gameworks on the strip, which also uses cards (although they denote cash), but I haven't been there yet. I'd imagine the games there are somewhat pricey just on principle. Any nickel arcades in Vegas?

I haven't been to our Gameworks in about three years, but the games were fairly reasonable back then. They actually had an entire section of classic games for $0.25 a pop, with shit like Moon Ranger and Galaga in these new, custom wood cabinets with original marquees.

Too far from the Plaza, though. You need transportation.

From what I remember from last year and the year before when I went to CGE, their arcade was nice and big. There were a lot of crappy games though when I looked last year: DDR USA being the most notable. How come it couldn't/wouldn't update to a better version? Why is it that there are only like 3 good DDR mixes in Vegas? Even Circus Circus only had a USA!

...

Sorry, a little off track. Those cabinets housing the older games were nice. And if you like walking up and down the strip like I do, it's a good place to make a stop.

There are 50 tasty-classic-in great playable condition games on the CGE floor, and you guys are talking about visiting a shitty arcade up the street?

There's a long way between talking and doing, Timmy, old chap. :monkey:

Besides, the CGE coin-ops are set on FREE PLAY. Not knowing how much, if any, spending dough I'll have on me, you bet your bippy, be it sweet or otherwise, that I'll be staying on the show floor. Besides, I think they're talking an after-show hoedown here.

"Timmy"
Call it a huge pet peeve o' mine. However:

you bet your bippy, be it sweet or otherwise
...you recognize the sweetness of my bippy, so I can let it slide.

My father called me "Timmy" once. Once!

I remember the Jillian's was still under construction when I was in Vegas last October. I didn't bother since there's one here, as well as a Dave & Busters. Both chains here use the points-on-the-card system which is meant to confuse you as to how much you're spending.

I went to the Dreamworks arcade (south end of the Strip, I believe) and remember about 7 or 8 classic games in the custom wood cabinets. Pepsi was having an employee outing the night we went and there were too many people running around to enjoy anything (ironic since there's a 3-4 story Coca-Cola store right above the arcade).
