View Full Version : So, I think I'm done with the Xbox 360

Let me start with my history with the Xbox 360 console...

I chose the 360 because I was always more of a fan of the Xbox then the PS2. I only had the PS2 for a short while and bought just a couple games for it before trading it away to my brother.

Fast forward to January 2006, I decide to pick up my first 360. It starts having problems after just a week so I return it and decide to wait until it's closer to the Halo 3 release to buy again. In December I buy another console and it works fine for about a year, at which point it red rings on me. I get another one and that red rings on me a few months later. The next one works for awhile but eventually red rings, as well. So, I get one more that works fine until Summer of 2009 but this time I get the disc read error. This is not covered under the warranty from my original purchase so I decide to buy a new console. A few months later (September or so?) that gets the disc read error so I send it in for yet another refurbished console, which I still have now.

Since last night, the console has stopped reading discs and I'm at the end of my rope. I'll keep sending it in as long as it is under warranty but I don't think I will be purchasing another 360.

I'm starting to worry about what will happen when Microsoft stops supporting the 360 when a new console comes out... if it breaks, I am just out of luck if I can't fix it. I won't be able to play any of my old games.

So, I plan on getting a PS3 within the next couple weeks and will no longer buy games for the 360 unless it's made exclusively for that console.. and even then I'll probably just rent.

The sad thing is that my original Halo edition Xbox that I bought new from Best Buy in 2003 still works perfectly.

Anyway, PS3 fans... any suggestions for games I must get to start off my collection? I am a big FPS fan so I'm thinking Killzone and maybe MAG but I also want God of War 3 for sure.

I've had my PS3 for about six months now and i've played a fair number of the exclusives so I think I can make a few suggestions.

Killzone 2 is good I enjoyed the story and the online play is great. I've heard mixed things on MAG but I try not to judge a game before i play it.

having said all that my suggestions would be Uncharted 1&2, resistance 1&2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Valkyria Chronicles (it's like a strategy RPG mixed with a tps) Ratchet & Clank Future either one (if you like platforming games) and Little Big Planet (again if you like platforming games) there are other games but these are the exclusive games i've played.

Yakuza 3. Best exclusive on the system. Demon's Souls takes second.

I bought my 360 Used in like 07. Never had a problem with it, It has a intercooler on the back so i've never got the red rings of death.

As for PS3, God of War 3 (as mentioned), Yakuza 3, Heavy Rain, Uncharted 1 and 2.

I have enjoyed and replayed the ratchet and clank series on the PS3.

I recommend them all. Doesnt matter if some of them are "exclusives" either OP, the point is, you can play them, and they wont break your system, or sound like a honda civic driving in 3rd gear at 75 mph. Oh yea, you can utilize their multiplayer features for free as well.

And yes, I can complain, I own a PS3, 360 and a Wii.

It is done.

Shortly after making this thread, I made a trip to Frys Electronics and picked up a PS3 slim and a copy of God of War 3. I also got an HDMI cable which I never had with the 360.

I've only played for about a half hour but God of War 3 with the HDMI cable is probably the best looking game I have seen so far. Super fun game, too. Kratos is always fun to control.

I had the first God of War for PS2 and loved it but never played the second. I don't even own a PS2 now so I'll probably pick up that compilation disc for PS3 that has the two previous GOW game.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. but I love FPS games. Would love to hear more about PS3 exclusives in that category.

You are right, I was amazed at how quiet the system is.

Oh, also... I think I mentioned in my OP, I am no longer buying games for the 360 unless it is an exclusive. If a game comes out on both, I will buy it for the PS3.

You're new here, so maybe you're not aware of how many RROD topics are posted. The problem with these sorts of threads is that a lot of times they turn into flamewars about which console is better. Lately there has been less of them posted, but nevertheless it's a really tired topic around here.

Calling a long time member a troll, probably isn't a good idea for someone with 10 posts under their belt. On internet forums when you're new it's a lot better to make friends before you make enemies.

As mentioned by TheDomesticInstitution this situation does come up quite often on here and these will have people that are going to side for and against whether or not its PS3 or 360. Look back through our last few pages of Modern Gaming threads, you'll find stuff.

It's pretty hard for this thread to stay on topic. 'My 360 sucks, I don't know what to do'.... 4 posts later 'I got a PS3 and will stay away FOR-EV-ER from the 360* (*unless there are exclusives but i'll try not to buy them just to show MS)' You've now gone OT in your own thread. What do you want? A high five? Done. HIGH FIVE! Good job! A good list of FPS's for the PS3? Pretty much all of them save for a few first party exclusives, Resistance 1-2, KillZone 2 are also available on the 360, so just look at the littany of stuff on MetaCritic/Gamespot to see the FPS games out for both systems.
