Yup, the impossible has ocurred: I purchased an Elite Xbox 360. :)

In a way, I am happy but deathly afraid. I still haven't unpacked the console, since I want to make sure that I have the "Jasper" model.

Unfortunately, the information I found so far deals with the Arcade unit from 2008, and not the Elite unit from 2009. The date on my console says:

2009-08-12

Does this mean I have a Jasper model? I can't tell what the amperage is, because the box blocks it's view. I do know it has to be 12.1A, but I can't verify this, unfortunately. :(

I also see the following info on the side of the box:

Lot No. 0932X

It does surpass the lot number stated in the "Determine if it's a Jasper" guides I've seen online.

Am I good to go? Any way I can tell? I can't tell the PSU, since it's inside the box, and I know it has to be 150W. Should I call Microsoft and confirm that it's a Jasper?

Any help would be appreciated SOOO much! Once I know it's a Jasper, I am going to rip this SOB apart and start playing! And of course, my ID will be "megasdkirby", which I hope is still active, as that was my handle on the original Xbox.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: If it helps the model I got comes with Lego Batman/Pure.

Only certain way I'm aware of it with an Elite is to open up the package and look at the power supply.

You can't slide the 360 around a little in the box to see if it says "12.1A"? Like this image:

EDIT: Also, the 360 my dad just got had Lego Batman and Pure and his said "12.1A".

I try, but the most I can see is the 5V portion.

The rest is obscured by the cardboard. :(

Thanks for the info!

Can you verify the PSU wattage? Is it 150w?

Being a 12.1A, is should be a Jasper, but I want to make sure with your Power Brick PSU.

Thanks man!

The box is cardboard right? So why not pull on that portion so you can see in there. Use a flashlight if needed?

Hehehe, I did that, but didn't actually tare off a portion, just bent it a bit.

And it's a Jasper! Yay!

So I now am a proud user of an Xbox 360. Here's praying that it lasts me years!

:)

By the way, my handle is "megasdkirby". :)

I think they've been using Jasper on all the bundles for a good while now. It's buying a used system you really need to worry about.

I'm still torn wether or not to upgrade my launch 360 pro to the new Elite Halo:OSTD/Forza 3 bundle, or wait until MS releases the Valhalla chipset.

Correct. Jaspers went into production in fall of 2008 so any models hitting in February 2009 and beyond are all Jaspers.

Wait until this fall. Thats when Microsoft will be releasing the new slim model 360 to coincide with the release of Project Natal.

And congrats Kirby. Now I can kill your ass in Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2 or any other game you want to try me in:)

I had a jasper, and mine finally hit and is currently in the repair facility, so its no guarantee, even if you take care of it perfectly like I did.

Honestly there is no guarantee 100 percent with any model of Xbox out there. After talking to numerous Game stores in my area, they are still seeing issues, although the issues have been less frequent.

I wish you luck.

This is definitely true. I love the 360 as much as anyone but the Jasper is still unreliable. I think that it is more prone to the E74 error than the red rings, but they are essentially the same thing, as Microsoft admitted. I got the E74 last week and my Xbox is now in Texas for repairs. Again, the Xbox 360 is a great system, but prepare for it to possibly die.

I haven't played much, but from what I play, I can easily tell I like the console, yet I am afraid of turning it on. It's a weird feeling, to be honest...

In any case, since I am using HDMI cabling, I am interested in the adapter part of this item:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UODATY/ref=s9_simh_gw_p63_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=064MKSBHZKE6H2WGC3XS&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

Is it possible just to get that adapter alone? The adapter I am referring to is the one that adds an optical out connector. That way I can connect it to my HT receiver.

Honestly, then why did you buy it if you're so afraid of it going supernova? These things die via the RRoD when they get hot. Make sure that it's in an area where circulation isn't an issue and the RRoD will be very unlikely to happen. Can you prevent the E74 or a drive shitting out? Nope. I've got a 63k gamerscore. I play daily for at least an hour and have never had an RRoD. I've had drives shit out, but never a RRoD.

Just play the system and stop worrying about it dying. The thing is covered by a MS warranty for 3 years against a RRoD or E74 and one year against a drive failure.

if you still have your regular component/composite/optical a/v cable, you can hook it up at the same time as your hdmi to get your optical out. might have to break open the outer casing and wrap the innards in elec tape to get them to fit together, but it does work.

my friend bought a cheap vga cable for her 360 that wouldn't do hd, so i got her an hdmi cable for video and just removed the plastic casing from the vga a/v cable and use it for composite sound.

No. It originally came bundled with the Elite system, but they took it out along with the HDMI cable and the component cables when they dropped the price. They really should have left it in.

That's probably what I'm gonna do. I'm hearing "internal hard drive" being thrown around alot.

Don't sweat the failures too much. You're protected on the most common problems for multiple years via free repairs. You don't even have to pay shipping. Sony never offered that for DREs, and Nintendo never offered that for blinking. So play it and have fun and don't worry.

I think if your 360 was manufactured that recently, you've probably got nothing to worry about? However, with the 360 you never know?

Yeah, but I just wanted to make sure. :) Specially since I read online that there were Falcons in the wild.

Thanks everyone for everything. I plan on giving it adequate use.

Now I can raid the used/clearance bins for cheap games!

Depending on what you like, there's some good games (for the time) super cheap now. You can get GRAW, CoD2, and Rainbow Six Vegas for $5-8. I played the crud out of those. The original Gears of War is about $10. Orange Box, Mass Effect, Halo 3, all under $20 new. Oblivion GOTY, $20. It goes on and on. I love this time in a console's life.
