I used to pick these up all the time at thrifts and sell them on Ebay for an easy $30 each. Been a couple years since I've sold any, so I have no idea if they're still sell for that now. They're pretty popular for circuit bending projects though.

BTW, don't forget to check inside the battery compartment for expansion modules. Those add a little bit to the value.

How much is the True Value??

I don't trust ebay with price, could go up or down..

Also I hate when people circuit bend these...
Other than toy collectors, circuit benders are the guys that are driving up the price of the Speak & Spell and it's cousins. I'm sorry to say this, but the guys that do the things you hate are the reason why they bring the price that they do on eBay, because otherwise they're not worth much at all.

There aren't any more Speak & Spells, Reads, Maths, etc being made so I can only imagine their price will go up over the years as their availability decreases and as circuit bending becomes a more mainstream sort of thing.

Of course, since you hate it when people circuit bend these things you'll not want to sell yours to a circuit bender. And they're basically the only people that want these right now. So for you a Speak & Spell isn't worth anything.

Just to clarify, since I'm sort of a circuit bender myself and I appreciate those who do it I have no problem selling it to them. And for me a Speak & Spell would be worth it's current going price on eBay. (Notice the difference in the "for me" value and the "for you" value.)
