This has me pretty excited. The good thing is that the demo has been out there forever, so it's not something that ties itself to a specific PSN account, nor can Sony adjust the downloadable item from their store to close the loophole.

Being able to take (pretty much) all my emulation with me in such a tiny package will be awesome; it's much easier to carry along than the standard PSP.

That, and I'll be able to use my LightMP3 player that scrobbles to Last.fm, which is a nice added bonus.

Nice. If they keep going with it, maybe the PSP Go will finally be useful. I'd probably pick one up if I could load custom firmware on it.

That's great news. I may actually think about picking one up shortly.

I'd pick one up if it was for sure hacked.

Turns out that the announcement was a little premature, and it'll be a while before a useful loader is available to use the exploit.

But, the good thing about this project is that it allows for homebrew use only, no ISO/CSO loading. I'm sure it'll come along in the future, as well as custom firmware, but this is at least a promising start.

You sound like you're hoping for them to be able to load ISO/CSOs. I hope they don't ever get that far. Seeing as I like the system I'd like to see more good games being developed for it instead of all developers completely scared away because of how easy it is to pirate the system.

And I'd like to be able to play the games I've bought on the unit when buying a new 3000 series unit isn't an option. It's a toss-up right now as to whether the 3000 or the Go will be the first unit to get dropped, but it's pretty obvious at some point one of them will cease production. Besides, I like the convenience of being able to carry most of my games on one 32 GB card with faster load times and less battery drain. I love the system, and I love it even more with the enhancements the hacking community have added. Sony is only going to make MORE money off me if the hackers succeed.

It's good that there's not going to be a huge mass of piracy right out of the gate, but I am awaiting the ability to play the games I've already purchased without the need to re-buy them.

Exactly. I'd only buy it if I could load ISOs on it. I already buy all my PSP games...I just don't put em in my PSP. They sit on the shelf and I load the ISOs on my PSP2K.

Its a good way to turn that piece of shit into something useful.

Quick! Grab your PSPgo and get on PSN: you need to download Splinter Cell Essentials (EU version) right now. Or if you have the UMD that’ll work too (for non-go models). Check it out:

This release comes from Dark_Kendox and FrEdDy, with a special thanks to Wololo, KiNgOfUnIvErS, psphakerwarrior, and Phantom91. Team ProjectXX kept this exploit on the d-low until some loudmouth ruined it. Now it’s likely the game will be pulled off PSN real quick, Sony will patch the exploit soon, and we’re back at square one. So do yourself a favour: don’t upgrade when Sony issues a new [useless] firmware update. With HBL in the works this exploit may serve a useful purpose for those currently running an unhackable PSP.

It works like this: Set your system language to English and copy the folder “ULES002810int” into PSP/SAVEDATA and h.bin to the root of your memory stick; run Splinter Cell Essentials, load the hacked save and press “Continue.”

It's a hello world only, after crashing and then finally getting to the hello world, it gives you the option of doing something or exiting. But when you're up to that point, all they have to do is give an option to patch custom firmware.

You PSP Go is now probably very close to becoming hackable. It looks like you'll need to download Splinter Cell Essentials on the Europe PSN though.

If the hack requires a download from PSN, it's useless. Sony will have the title in question removed and patched. The one I mentioned in the OP is something that can't be pulled down and replaced.

It may or may not be patched as of right now. The information was released as of yesterday and how long would it take them to patch the game? Also the UMD version will still work for the other PSPs.

Doesn't matter how long it takes to patch, they just flip the switch and make it unavailable.

UMD's don't matter since we're discussing the GO.

I don't think it's quite as easy as that. Other hacks have come along (mostly for the 3000) that never led to altering the firmware, so there's no guarantee that this one will suddenly throw things open. I'm guessing there are likely other protection mechanisms for altering the main filesystem. Still, it's good to see hackers making some progress on this stuff.

I'm running custom firmware on my PSP-1000, and I love it. Emulators and homebrew are always fun to screw around with. I have a stack of 41 PSP games on my shelf, so having the ability to pirate games certainly hasn't stopped me from buying them. I refuse to go the digital distribution route though.
