Did a search to see if a thread was already here for this... Found nothing.
Why this is interesting over Neo/Tototek carts:
Uses SD/MMC media. (FAT16 - currently 2GB max - can be updated in the future via SC/MMC slot for FAT32 and HC media)
Writes and loads saves direct to the removable flash media.

Don't know about vendor reliability/honesty, or longevity of support.
I know this won't run Virtua Racing or Super Street Fighter 2 (pretty much a given). But I can't find a compatibility list at all on the site, or off.
Only .bin roms will work right on the cart (off-site source, assembler boards) .smd cause problems because of how those roms are extracted and built.
Does anyone here have one of these? I'm seeking information, references and opinions before I even think about sending someone a money wire transfer... Can you get this thing from someone that takes a service with buyer protection like paypal (which he says that he can't accept, living in the Ukraine)? Any insight is much appreciated! :)
Quick edit in here: I'm interested in using this to play sound/music files that I would be composing and building myself along with it's other uses. I've seen the demo vid where it is running extracted audio files from carts/roms through it's module function. If anyone has any experience with that aspect, I'd love to hear about your experiences with it.

It also doesn't support 32X games, while the Neo Myth cart does. Btw, the Neo cart can use SD cards with an add-on.
Other than that, it looks pretty solid. I just wish he'd sell them in shells rather than the bare board.

Since I was mostly interested in it to go with my Nomad and the whole "make my own Genny tunes" thing, 32x support is not an issue either way for me. I can understand how that could be desired by others though. Supposedly, it has some issues with some of the SMS titles as well... I haven't found anything specific on that though.
If I do take the plunge on this one, I'm just going to go up to the pawn shop and pick up a Genny sports game with a nice case for a buck or so. Cut the slot for the media and drill a hole for the SMS pause button and pop the PCB in there.

Here's my review:
I got an Everdrive cart about a week ago, and have been trying it out. At first it didn't read a couple of my SD cards correctly, showing garbage in the file menu. And for some games (Sonic, Moonwalker), it loaded them, but they had graphical glitches and ran too slowly.
So I thought the Everdrive was shit. HOWEVER, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and now have it working perfectly with MD ROMs. I suppose I could have skipped a few hours of frustration if the seller (Igor) had sent me an instruction manual of any kind.
So here's what must be done in order to get ROMs working well:
- Format your SD card fully on a PC/Mac (using FAT). Don't just do a "Quick Format" and don't use the "Format" option in the Everdrive; it just clears the directory table of the card.
- Only use clean ".bin" MD ROMs. Super Magic Drive ".SMD" interleaved ROMs will not work and the Everdrive will think they are SMS ROMs. If one of your .bin ROMs gets loaded mistakenly as an SMS ROM, chances are it's just a renamed .smd file.
- Turn off the MegaKey option on the Everdrive. This was the cause of the graphical glitching and slowdown that I originally had. Even though I was using a US/JP ROM like Sonic, on a Japanese Megadrive, the Everdrive thought I should be playing it in PAL and was glitching up (regulating?) the speed.
I tried the cartridge with the 32X and Mega-CD as well. 99% of the time, the Everdrive doesn't even boot up with the 32X attached, so playing 32X ROMs is almost completely impossible. The Everdrive will load a MCD BIOS and run it, but it (presumably) can't access the CD hardware and thus freezes right upon boot-up.
The Everdrive page says it works with almost all MD games, and I'd say that's true. It has much higher compatibility than the Tototek MD cart. It also says it works with most SMS games, but on sampling about a dozen SMS games, I'd say only 50% of them booted up. So don't count on this playing SMS games as a feature; it's more of a small bonus.
Anyway, compared to the slightly cumbersome Tototek MD cart, the Everdrive is really fast, compatible, and convenient for MD games. For 32X and SMS, stick with the respective Tototek stuff (I don't know about Neo Myth.)
Oh, look! The Everdrive page is updated with a new 2.0 hardware revision. And right after I received the old 1.0 ver of the hardware... X-(

LOL... Right after I posted this, I read your review on the assembler boards. Well, I've read it twice now. :)
Might have to just take my chances on this, and test out the 2.0 revision. I can't test for 32X (no hardware), but I can check for MegaCD bios loading. See if I can load up Sengoku. Maybe the revision addresses those issues?

I just got my trade bin cleaned out of Genesis stuff. I got a copy of Air Diver to gut if I can't turn up a Madden in decent time. We're used to passing on them blighted Genny Maddens... Who ever thought they would be sought for something this cool? LOL
If I find some cheapies, I'll grab one for ya.

Bumping this thread. Just got my cart a few days ago and I'm currently putting it through the wringer. Brought it to work with my Gen 3... I don't know it it's because I tried to hook it up to a LCD widescreen or if it doesn't work on Gen 3's, but I didn't get to play it more than for about 45 minutes as of yet.
Playing it on the Nomad so far, and I think I very much got my monies worth. Trying to overcome some TMSS issues right now. I have a solution (Mega Key 2), but I'm trying to see if the cart can handle these by itself without help.

Looks like I know where part of my next check is going! I have a TON of Import Sega CD games that I have never been able to play. I didn't want to copy/region patch/burn them, so I have patiently been waiting (several years) for a card that would allow me to boot them on a US system.
I looks like the Everdrive has been updated again. Not only does it play Genesis, 32X, and Master System. But the new firmware also boots import Sega CD games!!! Looks like it was added June 21st!!!
+SEGA-CD bios loading (req firmware 8+)
Has anyone tried this. I am wondering how reliable it is at booting import Sega CD games. And has anyone tried it on a JVC X'Eye or CDX? Those are the two systems I will be using it on.

You're best asking at Sega-16.com (http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11013) or the "official" forum on assemblergames.com (http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=89). The user base is still very very small.

I did mine with a Swiss Army knife, saw, pliers and file. You only have to work on the front half of the cart shell. Didn't even bother with the Dremel. Even by hand with dinky multi-tools it only took a few minutes. Just need a label and a method to cover the SMS button part (still investigating options and possible solutions).
In a word, yup.

Yeah... But DP is my main forum, my main source of info, my guide to how I live my everyday life, because everything that is said on this site is true ;)... so I thought I would ask here first. I might just have to ask on those sites as well, however.

These are the pictures (http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/127752-flashcart-and-multicart-list-all-systems/page__view__findpost__p__1994913) from the guy on AA who was supposed to modify cart shells for us, but disappeared.
There are some label designs (http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27418) on this thread, including one I modified for those of us in the USA.
Pictures from the KRIZZ website itself (front view (http://krikzz.com/res/everdrive-md/hole/DSC03694.JPG), interior shot (http://krikzz.com/res/everdrive-md/hole/DSC03695.JPG)).
Basically, yes you only have to modify the front half of the shell. The hole for the button probably needs a small drill bit. The slot for the SD card some kind of dremel.

It really depends on how many units you are going to shell and how much extra people are willing to pay vs a bare pcb. Especially if you are using donor shells... Factor in the time, on top of materials and labor... Might not even sell for what it takes per unit to get it done. It's certainly possible either way, depending on the specific conditions.
If you can get some plastic to extend the SMS button (by gluing end-to-end) and just drill a hole that is just big enough for the added plastic protrusion, that might be the simplest and most presentable option for that.
I was thinking about making another shell this way, using a Battleship peg.
On the first shell, I cut out a fingertip sized piece. I rounded it out and filed a little into the shell face. Perfect for a direct switch press by hand, but it will let the dust and (in an even worse case) other crap in... Might find a method to seal it up, make a new shell or just leave it as it is.
The SD slot is easy peasy. Notch and cut out a rectangular chunk, and then sand/file to de-bur the new edges.
It really is a super simple process. Not too much harder than opening a Genesis cart (well, that is the hardest part actually).

I have a rev2 blue board with v5 firmware, and I recently upgraded the "OS" to v9 which is supposed to allow many of the neat new things, the sega cd stuff too. My menu screen says, v5 - v9. It was an interesting choice to go that route. Maybe it was necessary?
The system is a little different. The firmware, AFAIK, can not be updated without some crazy expensive rig. The "OS" is upgradable from the SD slot with an upgrade module (software, installable through the SD slot, not a hardware module) installed. Or, if your "OS" is already up to date, you can even load new updates through the menu system without the module installed.
I am alright with not being able to upgrade the firmware for SD cards over 2GB. I can fit nearly everything I would want on a 2GB card. If firmware ever allows for something else, I could be persuaded to pick up another board. Depends on what and how useful the new features are.

The Byte Blaster cable is not expensive $17 on ebay from Hong Kong (http://cgi.ebay.com/new-Altera-ByteBlaster-Byte-Blaster-MV-Download-cable-/140402388390?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b0a26da6#ht_500wt_1154). You also need the connector that goes into the card, identified as BH-10R. It doesn't have to be soldered in, just held in place temporarily by your hand.

Ah, good to know. I also noticed that is a rev2.1 board. I'm not sure if the rev1s and rev2 use the byte blaster. From the posts I've read online from users of some of the early rev1.x boards, updating firmware, at least was, an expensive proposition.
Really though, when the cart is $65, $23 for a shipped cable and (I'm guesstimating here) $7-15 for a single connector shipped might not be crazy expensive, but it is a bit much for just updating firmware. To be honest, I'd rather put in a little bit more money and get another, updated Everdrive board. That's just me and my estimation of it though. YMMV

We are close to releasing the EverDrive for sale on StoneAgeGamer.com. There will be 3 versions:
Just-the-Board (Cheapest)
This just comes with the EverDrive board.
Do-It-Yourself Kit
This version comes in a kit that you assemble and cut out yourself. It comes with a empty Sega Gensis cart shell with label cleanly removed, an EverDrive label that you can choose to stick on yourself if you'd like, a 4.5mm Gamebit and of course the EverDrive board.
Deluxe (Most Expensive)
This version comes already assembled and with holes already cut out. It also comes with a 2GB SD card and a 4.5mm Gamebit.
We have not nailed down pricing completely yet. All will ship for free to the U.S. The prices will be a little bit more than buying from him directly, but you will receive them much quicker and without the hassle of using Western Union. They will ship directly from our facility in the U.S. We have a very limited to supply in this first batch, but will be ordering a much greater quantity if they sell well.
I will keep you guys updated as soon as we have them listed on the web site and when pricing as been nailed down.

Just an update. I am still waiting on SD cards to come in I am hoping to get them today or tomorrow. I am also waiting on the second part of my shipment so I have everything ready to go.
I have talked to Albert over at AtariAge about printing some higher quality labels. These will be available at earliest when I receive my next batch of EverDrives.
So my plan is that with this first batch there will be 3 versions. However there will not be a deluxe version. It will be replaced with a "Ready-to-go" version which will be an already assembled version with the holes cut and 2GB SD card, but no 4.5mm bit.
I am hoping with the next batch I will have a deluxe version that will be a assembled version with a high quality label, 2GB SD card, 4.5mm Game bit, and hopefully in a plastic case. This version will probably replace the "Ready-to-go" version from this first batch, the price will be higher of course.
Please note that when the higher quality labels come out this will increase the price of the kit and deluxe/ready-to-go. So if the label is not important to you and you want a better deal you may want to be quick on the trigger once these go up for sale.
Sorry for any confusion, I expected some items to get here a bit quicker than they have. I probably should have waited a week to post this.

Yes, I think almost all SMS and 32X games work, as do MD games from all regions. Genesis cannot play Game Gear at all. Also note that certain games that used EEPROM for saves have issues. Some play without saving, others won't work at all.

Could someone please explain why this is? It was my understanding that the Game Gear was, in essence, a portable Master System. I'd long assumed that Game Gear games would run on a Genesis if a converter existed for it.

The short answer is that the Game Gear is capable of displaying 4096 colors while the Master System is limited to 256.
that doesnt actually explain anything about the gg / genesis question he asked.

that doesnt actually explain anything about the gg / genesis question he asked.
It answered the question.
He's telling you that the Game Gear had some technical enhancements (A larger color palette being the primary one) compared to the Master System. The Genesis was built to be backwards compatible with the Master System. But since the Genesis doesn't have the capability built in to handle those enhancements the Game Gear saw, those games can't play in a Genesis.
A handful have been hacked to run through the Master System hardware. But the last I saw of that there were still issues with lock ups, odd behavior, and incorrect colors for the 3-4 titles that had been converted to run on SMS hardware.
The Game Gear isn't just a portable SMS.

Harmony Cartridge for the Atari 2600 for $50

Now one for the MD.
I would like to know wich one is the best for the N64 console.
Does anyone here have one that loads roms from the SD card into the N64 ?

Neo Myth has one, but its expensive, and uses those hokey little gba cart style memory units (though I know their genesis cart has an optional memory adapter thing for sd cards, which might also work in their n64 cart).

SCD will play burned backups without hardware modification or bypass... AFAIK: The Everdrive cart can change the SCD bios so you can load import games that have problems being disk image edited/patched for region. Still need the SCD hardware and a game disk.
If you can load disk images from an SD card, I would really like to know that. If only for a chance at improved load times.

Somebody came up with a hacked/modified Sonic CD rom (http://sega-16.com/forum/showpost.php?p=285539&postcount=23) that runs on Genesis alone, but it's just one level, buggy as hell, and has no music.
Picked one of these up about a month ago and only wish I had done it sooner.
I found the compatibility much greater than either of the Powerpaks, with pretty much all of the trainers, translations, and pirate originals thrown at it working. The SMS compatibility is pretty good as well.
Really the only trouble I've ran into are EA games, and I'm sure there could be a simple checksum fix to get them working.

So Sega CD games and 32X can be played? that's awesome.
I just watched a video at the link above, it seems to load games kinda slow.

I just watched a video at the link above, it seems to load games kinda slow.It doesn't play SegaCD games, you can use it to override the BIOS to play burned and import CD games. You still need the SegaCD module. The rom I referenced is a one-time project by someone, but as you can see, it's not worthwhile. As for the loading, I think firmware updates after that video have made it faster.

Presuming that the EEPROM issue could be solved with software updates, I have to say that the only thing keeping me from buying one is the possibility that the cart may be redesigned to incorporate the FM chip for Master System games.

You can count me in for a deluxe version!

I've run into a few MS games that glitch or lockup, and I'm pretty sure it's not due to some problem with the file on my end.
Has anyone found a list of games with compatibility problems? I've looked at a couple forums here and there, most don't list specific titles but only list general issues.

Only game I've tried that hasn't worked is Megaman/Rockman, like I posted on the last page.
ROMs were extracted from a GoodSet Genesis archive I DL'ed about a year ago.

Rockman won't work due to the EEPROM issue. You'd need a patched/hacked ROM, if there is one.

By rockman are you guys referring to the same game as wily wars or is it something else?
Also, I'm super interested in this, but hate the idea of buying one and have a hardware revision come out later. I wonder if that's likely.

Yes, Wily Wars. Been meaning to try the Ninja Gaiden prototype dump also... It works, but very much not what I expected. A few graphical glitches during start screen and cinematic scenes.
Waiting would be prudent if you are only willing to buy one. I simply had to have one fast, and I'm willing to buy a second when improvement/revisions seem to have halted or a release hits that just about nails everything down. With a home system and a Nomad, you can get mileage out of two carts fairly easy. Even can run two at once if you have a multi-display game area... Just some ideas to float there, I'm not really pitching for this cart for reasons other than it's good and cheap.

I assume by OSG you mean Stone Age Gamer. No we did not have many, they all sold within about 16 hours of being put up for sale.
There are currently 50 more being made for us.

Awesome when do you expect to get them in? Can I preorder one?
Also, yes I meant SAG ... Doh!

I played through this and didn't notice anything in particular, it could possibly be the version you are using? Do you know of any specific glitches you have encountered?

I know they were minimal, but I honestly can't recall specifics now... I'm not even sure if those minor glitches are the prototype games state or the flash cart or what.

Any chance the Everdrive works with the X'Eye?
I've had a Neo Flash cart for a few months and have had a real hard time getting anything to run on either my Genny 2 (w/Sega Cd 2) or my X'Eye. I never got the Sega CD bios to work right with either system either. The EverDrive looks incredible, but I'm skeptical about taking a chance with another Genesis flash cart after my troubles with the Neo Flash. So far though it sounds like a much better product.

Hoping to get more in a few weeks. I probably won't be back/pre ordering them.

The maker of the EverDrive said Gen/MD games will work with X'eye, but you may have to turn Hard Reset option for the EverDrive off in the Options menu.
The X'eye will not work with the Master System ROMs.
