ok, so from what I gather, I need to buy the action replay 4mb ram cart to play japanese the games on my amarican saturn, like the on this site:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-49-en-70-1b2-4-6.html

I was browsing ebay, and saw an auction which came with a game and a ram cart, question is, is this the same ram cart I need to play the imported games as the one linked? or is it just to make game saves?

I can tell you, my cousin has the black ebay one for years (he also have the X-men vs Street Fighter among others as I have Saturn imports like Radiant Silvergun). I used it also with no problem. The one at Play-Asia is new to me. If you just want to play the Saturn imports and low on cash, take the ebay one. If you got the extra cash and want the extra beneifits, go for the Play-Asia. The reviews seems top-notch!

You want to buy the Play Asia Action Replay 4M Auto Plus.

The cart from the ebay auction will not let you play Japanese games. It is only a 4MB cart, useable on a Japanese system. It came originally packed with X-Men VS. Street Fighter. If you have other methods of getting Japanese games to play on your Saturn, you can use the 4MB ram cart from the ebay auction, but for your needs, you want the Action Replay.

You can also buy a Gameshark. There's plenty on eBay, they're cheaper and do the same of the Action Replay.

Or just get someone to do a region switch mod.

I have the Action Replay Plus one on a US Saturn. I only paid around $6.00 for it off of eBay, brand new. That $25 price tag seems a bit steep to me. But then again, it_has_ been a couple of years since my purchase. A must have if you want to play imports, and the best way to go if you don't want a mod.

Does the Action Replay plus also work for PAL games and burned games? I'd like to actually be able to try Saturn games before I decide which ones to actually buy.

Just like with 3DO, I make my choices doing that because I don't want to say oh that title sounds interesting and find out it's an FMV game or a "choose your own adventure" style slideshow like Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.

I probably ended up selling half my Saturn games because I didn't like that half.

I have read that it does not work well on a PAL Saturn, has Video and Audio problems. I haven't heard anything about the games.

:)

A region cartridge / region mod will NOT allow you to play CD-R duplicates, you need a modchip for that. In the same vein, a modchip will NOT allow a system to play non-native region games (even duplicates), you need a region mod for that.

Honestly there has never been a time where I have bought an import Saturn game, ended up not liking it and wasn't able to get my money back via resale. Japanese Saturn titles are cheap for the most part, and as long as you don't overpay, most people would have no problem picking them up here for $5 - $10 if it turns out to be something you don't like.

Get a cheap ST-Key cartridge. I bought one for $20 at a game expo (with four games included), it lets me play Japanese imports easily.

Yes, but if the OP wants more bang for his buck, the Action Replay plays Japanese games AND includes the 4MB ram. That ram greatly enhances games like Metal Slug and X-Men VS. Street Fighter... making them nearly arcade perfect.

Saturn modders seem difficult to find nowadays. I've been using an Action Replay 4M for import games.
