A few months back my wife and I bought a house. Since then we've done some rearranging, and now almost every room has become a game room.

Some pics of the front room.

Capcom Q25 Candy with Street Fighter Alpha 3

The family room has a 50'' Hitachi plasma with a Samsung 5.1 system. Most of my current gen gaming is done in here, and I've got a few more arcade cabinets in the room as well.

Lastly, I set up a man-cave in the basement with a 32'' Sony Trinitron for all of my old-school gaming needs. So far it's coming along pretty nicely. I currently have a region modded Playstation, Saturn, Neo Geo, Genesis, Dreamcast, Super NES, Jaguar, Turbografx 16, and NES hooked up to the TV, with plenty more systems packed away in boxes until I get some more shelving for that room.

There's still quite a bit in storage, I figure I'll be digging most of those consoles and games out when I move the room to one of the upstairs bedrooms in a few months and come up with some more shelving options.

Until then, that's pretty much it.

Thanks Snap, much appreciation! They're definitely the pride of my collection.

lol, thanks Gamedude! Trust me, it was pretty crazy when I had my apartment, things were really cramped. On the plus side, it's pretty cool having one centralized area of gaming bliss.

This is my old setup here, with some collection junk thrown in.

You say that almost every room in the new place is a game room, and I couldn't help wondering if your wife is totally down with that, or if it one of those situations where she more or less of accepts/tolerates it (like most guys do when their wife decorates community areas)? Also, were you already into game collecting before you and your wife were married?

Thanks for posting your collection, I really enjoy these game room tours.

My wife encourages it, she is a gamer herself and loves watching the collection grow. In all honesty she was the driving force behind us getting into arcade collecting and doesn't mind the space they take up.

While I was never one to part with games, my collecting bug started while my wife and I were first dating and has remained steady since we married and had our son.

I have to ask: what's the game on the TV? You know, the one with the camel(?) ;)

Yeah, I've been on the boards for about four years. Do you still maintain that insane monopoly on Double Dragon carts for the SMS? :D You always had a killer collection yourself. Strangely enough I haven't gotten around to posting my stuff on the Neo boards yet, despite it being my usual haunt.

I have four cabinets currently. I gave that Neo 2-slot conversion to my friend/roomie so he could get into the hobby. I had six, but I sold my other candy (a Korean Crowin Case), because it had been converted into a Ms. Pac Man, and was too much work to restore to proper JAMMA goodness.

Thanks man. My son already makes plenty of use of the games himself. He loves Soul Edge and Metal Slug. When we play outside he says to himself "One, three, four, five, spirits never die! NAMCO!" Hearing that from a two-year-old is absolute hilarity.

Ouch man, that's no fun. If that happened to me I'd be moving into the closet myself. It's gotta be 50/50 and having to keep the things you enjoy tucked away stinks.

Hey, some 32" Trinitron love! Same set I use for pre-2000 consoles. Pretty cool setup all around. With so much stuff in every room, I can tell you don't have kids yet.

Edit: Oh wait...scratch that. You have a son. Just read that.

Yup, that's cloud on his Hardy Daytona. Got it as a wedding present from a friend. I love Kotobukiya statues.

Yes sir! That's the same reason I use mine. Currently I have a Genesis, SNES, TG-16, Neo Geo, Dreamcast, PSX, Saturn, Jaguar, NES, and an XBOX in the room getting use out of it. It's definitely a great CRT for standard-definition gaming.

Nice setup man. I had the same thing when I bought the townhouse - every room was a game room. I'm starting to restrict the number of rooms with gaming stuff now though to one or two.

You have a very nice setup, although I think the first room is alittle too white. Throw some color in there by hanging some posters or other video game memorabilia. But overall it's nicely organized and very clean looking.

I think a lot of people go over board with tons of random poster and stuff on the wall. It usually just makes the area look more cluttered, IMO.

Sweet setup I am still working on my game/guitar room. I need to find me a nicer TV and some shelving for the TV and consoles.I shouldn't discount making your own shelving, assuming you have the tools and you can find the time.

It's hard to find commercial storage solutions that don't end up looking like a hodge-bodge of sorts, especially when your collection starts to outgrow your shelf space. A lot of people with large collections tend to have everything housed in random bookshelves, racks, and cabinets of different sizes, heights, colour, etc..

I decided to just draw up some rough plans and make my own shelves and cabinets of out of MDF and plywood, and to paint them to match my room. The project took a few weekends, but in the end it was worth the effort. They worked out pretty well, and I'm totally inept when it comes to working with wood,so if I can do it, pretty much anyone can.

It's something to consider.

I just love a quality over quantity style game room. Good gaming hardware that obviously sees use, some neat memorabilia without being stuffed with common crap. Japanese stuff, domestic stuff, and to me a game room just isn't complete with out an arcade machine or two.

I approve!

Thanks. I have a few posters up, but, like Emperor Megas said, I think too much posters and such is a bit like overkill, at least in the normal living areas of my house. Though I'm not opposed to going poster crazy in my man-cave.

I agree wholeheartedly about the posters. As for painting, I'm pretty fond of just a clean, white room. It compliments the candy cabs.

Thanks XYXZYZ! And I agree completely, a few arcade machines are a definite must.Heh, I'm guess I'm not in the club. I don't really have the room for an arcade machine, though honestly, the closest to a coin-op I'd want would be a MAME cabinet. One of the table top or cocktail sized ones.

Who knows though, I might feel differently about a dedicated cabinet if I had tons of space. I'm sure we all have our favorite arcade games that never get old after all. For me it'd be something like Blasteroids, Toobin' or maybe Gauntlet.

Hmmm, you know I just realized how many of my favorite arcade games were made by Atari.

I definitely wouldn't mind getting my grubby paws on a Gauntlet cabinet. Recently I saw an immaculate looking Dark Legacy floating around, but couldn't really justify picking it up with Too Many Games just on the horizon.

Atari did make some fantastic arcade games, but my favorites are from the late eighties and early '90s. Sega, Taito, SNK, and Capcom are pretty much my arcade companies of choice.

Emperor Megas
04-04-2010, 10:56 PM
The thing about some of those Atari games is that I can play them over and over, and over, and they just never seem to get old. CAPCOM, Taito, SEGA, NAMCO and Data East made many of my favorite arcade games, but I see myself playing something like Blasteroids every few days, forever, rather than once every few weeks.

I just don't like it when they're all over the place and random is all, not that I care how other people decorate or anything.

With that said, why are those posters in the picture spaced so far out? :)

It's supposed to work in conjunction with the rest of the pics. The idea is to divert the attention from the bed in the "other room" but seems I've failed. Maybe I should had hired an architect or a decorator instead. :)
