Didn't see any posts about this game. Who else is excited for this? I didn't hear much about this game until today and decided to check out all the video and now I'm beyond stoked.

Apparently it's a full open world western game. It looks similar to an Oblivion style game but with an improved Red Dead Revolver shooting system. You can be good or evil and do tons of quests. Check out some videos:

Some of the scenery is breathtaking. Unless this gets terrible reviews, I'll definitely be picking this up this month.

I'll get it when its cheaper, haven't seen much western games since Gun and the first Red Dead game. Looks good.

edit: Oh and I highly doubt this game will get bad reviews its a Rockstar game.

2nd edit: its not for PC it doesn't look like :(

Give me Gun 2... then I'll be excited. Why this game has no sequel I've no idea.

Seeing every other western game get a sequel (Call of Warez and the terrible Red Dead Revolver) and Gun goes without is completely unjust. Gun, imo, is one of the greatest games ever made and a shining example of near perfect game design.

I'll admit, Red Dead Redemption does look very cool and I'm certainly going to check it out, I'm just bitter that there is no new Gun in the works.

Yeah I don't get it either, and the fact that Gun got so cheap in like 2 months. I bought that game for like full price :(! There's gotta be something behind it all.

Neversoft/Activision are too busy raking in the cash from guitar hero sequels to invest in a Gun follow-up.

It's funny when I say I havn't seen a guitar hero game in a long time, seeing its only been 4 months or something like that, but that's pretty weird for a GH game. Usually you get like 2 of them in 4 months. Guess they ran outta songs.

Ever since Rockstar started putting good gameplay and a good amount of realism in their games is when I've started to like their games(GTA4.) It's nice that they modified the engine they used on GTA4 so now that everything is even better.

I've wanted this game for quite some time but as usual I'm going to wait until I can find it for a really good deal or wait until it gets a large price drop. I can see this as one of my favorite next gen games.

I doubt it will surpass Outlaws, the best western (no pun intended) ever IMO. If any game needed a sequel, or even a remake, it's Outlaws.

Considering that Gun was released 5 years ago then I'd hope that Red Dead Redemption would be better.

I've never played Gun but it can't be any worse than Rising Zan or Samurai Western. Not bad games, but definitely not really good.

I'm going to go ahead and take a page from the kupo book and say I'm going to wait until it's cheaper to pick it up (for the 360 btw).

Not that I don't think it will be worth full price, I've just got a lot of other games to play right now. I really hope it turns into a "must-have", though. An open world western game just sounds too fun.

FYI: Pre-ordering this game with Amazon nets you a $20 gift card. You're essentially getting the game for $40.

I pre-ordered it months ago and locked in the lowest price ($56.99). Also...remember Amazon has no tax and free shipping.

I preordered it shortly after watching the first video they posted on this game.

Red Dead Redemption looks to be very loosely tied to the first game, but from the looks of the preview is going to be the killer game of the summer. There is so much I love about free roam games like this - you get to decide how you interact with the environment, and you can narrate your own story around your actions.

What had me super impressed was that multiplayer looks like it's going to be blast. Me and my friends are going to start a posse, then we're going to go out and kill some stuff. Maybe we will go out into the wilderness to shoot some wildlife..

for single player, I think i'll probably start out playing a game of poker, then finding me the local brothel and having my way with one of the locals. Then i'll hog tie the woman, and ride off into the sunset. (at which point i'll probably leave her on some train tracks, watch as a train comes by, and then look for some poor local to tie up and pull behind my horse for a couple miles or so). I also want to try my hand at wrestling with a bear - that sounds like fun.

Tuesday can't come soon enough!

Played for about and hour... Not too crazy about the horse controls so far but the game is fun. A crazy shit moment popped up while I was fist fighting a couple of guys in front of a salloon. A group of bandits rode into town while I was doing so and started shooting the place up. I drew my pistol to fire at them and the fellas I was fist fighting pulled their guns on me. I shot a bandit off his horse before getting riddled with bullets from every direction. I enjoy that kind of mayhem in games. This one has potential.

If you don't like GTA then don't waste your money. The theme is certainly different but it's similar in too many other aspects. I'm not a graphics fiend, but this is one beautiful game to my eyes and the voice acting is top notch too. I really got a kick out of the first guy I saw stumbling drunk out of a saloon and into the street. He eventually fell down in the dirt and passed out.

I agree! From what I've seen, the graphics are spectacular. Very detailed, though I did see some glitches on a few gameplay footage I've seen. Still, it looked fantastic and very realistic. The acting also seems realistic, which also gives me lots of realism.

GTA4 is two years old and it's still not $20. Unless you purchase it used.

Now I haven't played it yet since it's still getting sent to me in the mail, but I only sort of agree with Oobgarm on it's GTA4 with a different setting.

The gameplay looks far more fluid, comparative on a level such as Uncharted. Also, the setting is one thing I'd assume would make the game completely different. Now you're not stealing cars, killing cops, etc, but bandits, animals in the wild, protecting villagers, attacking villagers, etc. I'm not really sure of any of this like I said, but for how everything looks in the videos, it uses the same engine but doesn't seem to play as close to GTA as people would think. I don't care either way though. I loved GTA4.

Kupo, if ya liked GTA4 then you'll dig this. I've spent the majority of my several hours so far just goofing off playing poker and exploring. The AI in the game causes some pretty funny moments. Nah, it's pretty locked down. Mostly shootouts in relatively small levels that are more like arenas. It feels like a deathmatch with some tough bots sometimes. Fun game, though.

I've played thru about the first 2 or 3 hours of this game, and right now it's my leading candidate for GOTY 2010. I'm not a huge GTA4 guy either. I didn't play very much of that. I was in love with it for a minute, but then got tired of it. That's the only thing I worry about with this game.

Still, I must say that the details are absolutely off the chain in this game. I mean, I give much respect to everybody in the art department. They really went all out on this. For about 30 minutes I was just riding around at night on my horse admiring this interactive world that is spread out before me. The Wild West feel is just so cool. Very cool vibe. Oozing with atmosphere and ambiance.

Also this game is crazzy ...I was just roaming around the wilderness and found a man crying after he found his wife dead (suicide, or he killed her) I stopped for a minute and he spouted something and proceded to kill himself (gun to head). Got Red Dead Redemption today. It just came out two days ago and I ordered free shipping so Amazon must have sent it out early or something.

Anyways, I was looking up more pictures of it and came across the PS360 comparisons. So I decided to read them. I only own a PS3 now and man did the PS3 version get screwed. I don't really care as I don't own a 360 and I wouldn't have noticed the difference otherwise, but damn is Rockstar lazy. It was developed on the 360 first and instead of trying to make the PS3 version the same quality they port it with sub 720p graphics and less detail in areas like grass on the ground etc. Not only is it graphically inferior because Rockstar was too lazy to correct the frame rate while still keeping it on par to the 360 version, IT STILL has supposed frame rate issues.

The only reason I'm complaining about this now is because this is the first game I'm interested in that has this issue. Also for something that is most likely going to be game of the year it's pretty much bs.

I played a little bit (2 hours or so) of multiplayer the other night. It has it's moments, but nothing that will keep people playing in a few months. The shootouts that start off the match are great. The rest is just blah, 3rd-person running and gunning. Very similar in feel to GTAIV multiplayer...which was just "OK" too. Nothing terrible, just not something that's going to hold most people's interest for long.

The online freeroam is worthless unless you're playing with friends. Otherwise it's just a bunch of idiots thinking they're playing some retarded mega-map deathmatch. The sheer openness of the world must be too much for some people. All they can think to do is shoot the first person they see. Dumb.

Single player is amazing. The voice acting...best ever? Definitely in the top 5 of all time.

I think the game is good. Cover system is the same as it is in GTA4, there are some flaws, but the shooting system is much better.

I'm curious if anyone else knows how to capture someone? I haven't died but I've been shot up trying to capture people that are supposed to be captured instead of killed. One night watchmen thing had where people were having a fist fight, I shot both in the legs and they fell to the ground, then I went over to them maybe to hit triangle like when you loot someone but seeing if it gave me an option to tie them up. Same thing happened on a wanted poster which I killed him also.

On one mission all I did was go over there and it went to the story sequence. But again, that's a mission.

Another thing I did was play poker. Extremely flawed and by flawed I mean easy. If they check, bet and they'll fold, guaranteed. You can have complete garbage for cards and that's how it always happens. It's nice that they don't know that they're going to win this hand like most poker games(anything just poker) and you'll probably lose to probably first game you play, but then this right here is too easy.

Arcade_Ness
05-21-2010, 04:51 PM
Hey Kupo, you need the lasso to capture people. Once you have someone caught in your lasso, than while still holding them, you walk to their body and press triangle to hogtie them.

Great game so far. I remember the other day when I went to the rescue of a woman stranded in the middle of nowhere, I was then ambushed by bandits. I take out the bandits, then hogtie the woman, put her on my horse, drop her on the railroad tracks, and watch her die as the train plows through her. Best excuse to get that Dastardly trophy.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't yet received your $20.00 gift card.

I checked the description of the " Red Dead Redemption" offer and see we'll send you a $20 gift card via e-mail within 10 days of the release date. The gift card can be used for any Amazon.com purchase where gift cards are normally accepted.

As long as your order meets all of the terms and conditions for the offer, you'll receive your promotional certificate by May 28. If you don't receive it by then, please let us know by going to the URL below:

I hope this helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Btw, I have to say this game is instant love and an instant classic. Definitely the best western game ever and possibly in the top 10 best games EVER made.

Word to the wise, the game uses a pop and shoot mechanic like Gears of War and there are multiple lock-on systems. I recommend playing with "expert" setting to get used to it as online matches seem to gear towards expert and hardcore players at higher levels. All work well though once you understand the mechanics the game becomes a gem. Also online takes a bit of negotiating to understand, but once you do you will "get it", it's masterfully done.

Very glad I bought it. Excellent game, definite GOTY material for sure.

I'm a few hours into the game, and I'm really enjoying it so far. The graphics are pretty good overall, nothing mind blowing though. It's definitely setup like GTA though where there's the main missions and a whole bunch of side ones as well. The controls are tight, but controlling your horse takes a little getting use to. The voice acting and overall audio are solid as well. Most definitely a GOTY contender!

Honestly I hated GTAIV and have never really liked GTA games in general, mainly cause of the god awful fighting mechanics, which is VASTLY improved here. I played GTA3 on PS2 the most, but after that I was like, meh. This game is MUCH more focused. The theme is better and the action and events throughout the game so far are much more interesting and keep you in the game. The main character is Rockstars best since Max Payne imo.

It is alot like GTA, but I hated GTA and love this. Rockstar has obviously learned alot and has figured out a perfect pace for this type of game cause it's like a sandbox game with so much to do around every turn that it doesn't get boring. The map has a feeling of "not to big" and "not to small". You don't wander aimlessly too often unless you try.

You can herd cattle, tame horses, play horseshoes, play poker, take bounties, get in duels, help citizens, skin animals, harvest collections, the list goes on and on, BUT THE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT and best thing "imo" about the whole game is you can be an honest to goodness "bad guy".

Like in Fable, people will run in fear or do you favors and when you shift towards being a bad guy other gangs will honor and welcome you, when the law comes after you it isn't like in GTA, you can wipe the floor with the lawmen, you can own their asses and this is by far the biggest thing that makes it different and better than GTA, BY FAR.

Can you kill someone without getting a bounty put on your head? Also, are bounties bad if you escape the posses?

kupomogli
05-24-2010, 03:28 PM
You can kill anyone that isn't an innocent without getting a bounty. You also can't kill horses. If you kill an innocent and no one sees it, I don't think you get a bounty either. Not sure about that one though.

To be honest, I find the game difficult to get in trouble and stay in trouble. I mean just killing innocents and law men get extremely boring.

Another thing. John Marston can't swim. I was going to swim across to the next pier at Thieves' Landing and jumped in only to instantly die. Why does Rockstar take the swimming aspect and then go backwards? If it's about the fact that you have guns, then give some sort of penalty for going in the water and make you wait until you're dry or something.

I like the random requests though. Driving through and someone asks you something. I didn't what one guy said but I went over to him and got off my horse only for him to run and jump on it. I was going to lasso him off but I happened to not switch it over to the lasso and shot him in the back with the revolver. I didn't get a bounty on my head for it so that was good. I think he was asking for my horse to get back to town though and wasn't trying to steal it because after I got back on my horse it didn't have max stamina. Also when you hear gunfire and you don't see a blue dot, don't worry about it, because I found the people shooting, shot one in the head that was shooting at the other only to find out it was a law man and I got a bounty for it.

I beat this game last night. It's one of my favorite games of this generation - I liked it much more than GTA IV. Did anyone else beat it yet? What did you think of the ending?

I'm probably going to go for 100% (much easier than in GTA), because I'm already around 92% complete...I just need to finish two of the challenges, complete one more stranger mission, and mop up the last bounty locations.

Red Dead is definitely the front-runner for GOTY in my book.

Really good ending, though at the same time really sucked.

I think the game is good but when the prerelease impressions came out, it basically led everyone on to believe that there's more to do than you actually can. How they stated you can be an outlaw, help out the people or help the bandits and steal everything. You can't really help the bandits as they'll just open fire on you regardless, though what do you actually get in return for killing a stranded person on the side? Absolutely nothing.

So in the sense there is tons of stuff to do in the game. There are the challenges, there are the random events, but in all honesty, there's really not a whole lot to do. Great game and I'll agree that it deserves a nominee for game of the year, however in my opinion, Yakuza 3 definitely beats it out.

The online of RDR is good. The deathmatches and get the bag are my favorite ones. However, GTA4 has really good car physics and quite a few check point races. There are games though that have the same modes with similar but much more refined gameplay. I haven't played Uncharted 2, but I have played Uncharted, so considering that Uncharted 2 has a deathmatch and capture the flag, as well as the better gameplay of the already good gameplay system of the first game, it's safe to say that RDR online will only be played until everyone completes everything.

Now that I'm almost done this game, I have mixed feelings about it. It's a beautiful and well designed open-world game, but it suffers from some of the same things that turned me off about the GTA games, namely repetitive missions. There's just too many missions where you have to travel to a certain place and just shoot a bunch of enemies. It's fun doing those missions at first, but they get less fun the more you do them. At the same time, I guess there's enough more unique missions like the train robbery and the mine mission. I think this game has a nice balance of familiar GTA style game play and the fresh new setting of the old west. Still a solid 9/10 though.

I might be bringing up a thread from over a year ago but when a game is as amazing as this one it shouldn't have to go a year without someone talking about it and playing it.

I just picked it up a few days ago since it finally dropped to the magic $20 price point(at least in Canada). I almost feel ashamed for having waited this long to buy it. I should have listened to what everyone said about it and just bought it for full price. This game stands out as my new favorite game of this generation. The voice acting and dialog is extremely well done, the graphics are polished and the gameplay feels dead on.... I would rave more about it but I have to go back it playing it.

I never thought I'd see the day Sarah Jessica Parker gets a video game cameo.

Red Dead was my personal GOTY last year. Let us know how you feel about the game after Mexico though. The way the game ended IMO was fan-freaking-tastic. Thanks for reminding me I need to play the undead expansion... I bought the disc version, but have yet to pop it in.

What a coincidence, I just bought it in Like new condition for $25 in the middle of May this year. I also was late to the party, but completely wowed by the gameplay.

I give it every bit of a 9.5/10 and it was hard to put down. There's just so much to do between hunting, gathering, side missions, story, etc. Very engrossing gameplay.

Definitely got a solid 40-50 hours out of it at least, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm sure you will too.

Count me as another who didn't play this game until recently. Even with all the glitches (I've encountered no landscape/background and got stuck "carrying" an invisible hogtied bounty, just to name a couple), one of my favorite games of all time, not just recently. In fact, just finished Undead Nightmare, which was also fantastic. If you liked the social commentary sprinkled in RDR's story, I found Undead Nightmare's to be more poignant.
