I got a non-working Turbo Grafx hucard. First time I've seen this and I don't see any physical damage to the hucard itself, I've taken an eraser to the contacts but I can't get it to boot up for anything. I only get a solid colored screen.
I tried running this through google but didn't turn up anything useful, does anyone here have any experience bringing a hucard back to life? I'd love to see this thing fixed.

I'd first try it in another TG-16. I've sold some cards on ebay that people sent back to me with that exact issue but that work fine in my unit at home. (some units must be cleaner than others. ;-)
If that fails, you can try Deoxit contact cleaner. (got mine at Radio Shack) That'll usually do the trick.
If you still can't get it to go, you can try a very fine grit sandpaper.
And it's only happened to me once in about 200 cards that I've seen, but apparently they can be fried somehow. So it may just be one of the unlucky dead.
Hope that helps. ;-)

Yeah I've tried it 2 different systems, both of which boot games 100% of the time assuming the games aren't filthy (very rarely have I seen a TG16 fitting that bill). The eraser should produce the same results as contact cleaner or sand paper, maybe I will try the sand paper and see what happens though. Can't hurt.
The best result I have ever gotten is a different colored solid screen every once in awhile. Usually it is grey but very rarely it will be teal. For now I am assuming the card really is dead.
Is there information somewhere on how to open hucards? Preferably without destroying it in the process..

All you have to do is gently pry the black portion off, it is attached with double stick tape, be careful around the IC chip(s) which are either in the center (1 IC) or are half way between the center and the the edge on both sides (2 chips) in all likelihood someone squeezed it above a chip and broke the contacts under the epoxy blobs, that kind of failure can't be repaired.

I have come across one that never worked. And that was Order of the Griffon. All I ever got was a white screen. The game looked perfect too. Cleaned the crap out of it too. Never worked in my Turbo Express, OR my Turbografx -16. I just gave it to someone for free and it didn't work in their's either. So I guess it can happen, but it's very rare, those HuCards are tough as nails.

I did end up opening it the other day and there really isn't much to see there, didn't see anything out of the ordinary so I guess this one is truly dead unless someone has anything else to recommend.
