I've stumbled across a collector who is selling all his gaming collection. Unfortunatly the collector knows the prices for the games, but is selling them at "cart only/cd only" prices. Most items are all boxed. I'm talking thousands of boxed games for almost every system (atari-dreamcast era). I know the nes boxes fetch a good deal more than cart only games. I was just wondering which systems should I be looking at for the boxes?

NES and SNES definitely. But for most any system, having the box & manual tends to at least double the price.

don't forget Gameboy and Gameboy Color, those boxes are TOUGH to find

Thanks for the info. Unfortunatly I don't think there is any gameboy stuff. I will for sure have to look at the SNES games. Any games in particular I should look for? I'll be sure to especially check on the RPG's. Also does anyone know about atari boxes. It's been awhile but I thought the Telegames boxes were worth a nice sum.

SNES:
Earthbound
Mega Man X2, X3, 7
EVO Search For Eden
Chrono Trigger
Castlevania Drac X
Final Fight Guy

NES:
Moon Ranger
Secret Scout
King Neptune
Operation Secret Storm
etc etc.

Unlicensed NES stuff has plummeted lately. Black Box titles on the other-hand have sky rocketed. I would be on the lookout for older boxed titles like Sqoon, Chubby Cherub, and Donkey Kong Jr. Math. Late release titles like Bubble Bobble 2, Power Blade 2, Panic Restaurant, and Lil Samson will command top dollar as well.

Thanks guys. The collector's wife is the one selling the games. She doesn't know much about them but is using videogamepricecharts.com to price the items. That is the reason why I say they are using "cart only" prices. Does anyone know if rarityguide.com is a good place to price CIB items? For instance vgpc prices Chrono Trigger for $45 and rarityguide prices it CIB for $226. Does that sound about right?

Rarityguide.com is no good at all.

I hate to say it, but if you don't know prices off the top of your head, it can be really tough to know what a good deal and what isn't. CT CIB generally goes for $100 or so, less if it's missing maps.

As always, your best bet for prices is completed auctions on Ebay. It can be time consuming tho, and won't be much help if you're at someone's house (unless you want to go browsing on your cell phone).

Basically, almost any game that came in a cardboard box is what's collectable. Anything with a hard case usually people keep the case.

Cardboard cased games:

All the gameboy games (Not DS)
NES, SNES, N64, Turbografx-16, 3DO (some have hard cases though), the later Genesis games, Atari games, Game Gear, Jaguar, Lynx..

Basically if it didn't come with a hard case, most people tossed it in the garbage.
