Yeah, which is the hill on Star Road. :D

Actually, you are warped to it when you go to the center star on Star Road. So it's really no more a part of Star Road then any of the other levels are that can be reached from the Star Road by using the warp stars.

I rank SMW No.1 overall, among all video games of all time. So obviously, I prefer it over SMB3, but I will say that I have SMB3 like 8th on my list.

Tough. Tough. Tough choice..

But I'm going with Super Mario World. To me the fun factor was just higher in SMW (perhaps because it is easier, I dunno) and while I acknowledge that 3 was the innovator, and set the template, I loved the brighter graphics, great sound effects & memorable music from World. The abundance of secrets throughout also set it higher for me.

And of course Yoshi.

super mario world was actually kindof a letdown when it was relased. there wasnt a whole lot about it that was new
Where are you from? It was certainly a HUGE deal in North American and Japan. I thought it was pretty huge in the UK, Europe and Australia as well. I don't know about other places.

Those can be replayed at any time. As I recall, just press L & R when entering one after it's been defeated.

Oh awesome! I never knew you could do that but it works. I'd never think to try pushing both buttons at once and it's not in the enclosed instruction book. This should be listed on cheat code sites but it's not. Now my love of Super Mario World has just increased substantially. one of the big reasons I always replayed the whole game was just to be able to play the castle levels again. It works on the fortresses too :) I hear the hidden 1-ups past the long lava pit in Forest Fortress calling!

Also, I played SMW first, because the 16 bit systems were my first consoles when I was 6. I had an NES but didn't get SMB 3 from the yard sale until I was 8.

It's widely listed at cheat sites. It's right there in the cheats section for the SMW entry at GameFaqs for example.

It's a nice secret to know, that's for sure. Although I never take advantage of it, I usually just play through the entire game a couple times a year.

Is there a code somewhere, even for game genie, for reopening the switch places?

Never heard of one and there certainly isn't any secret button presses programmed to allow it to happen. I doubt there are any Game Genie codes that accomplish it. If there are, they weren't ever in any Game Genie codebooks back in the day and I've never seen it posted online.

Any particularly reason you'd want to? They're pretty insignificant areas, much like Yoshi's House where the game starts up at. Pretty much just an initial room where you can get some coins with a hallway leading up to the switch.

Plus it's annoying that they're the only areas the game denies you the opportunity to revisit.

Holding the L&R to get back into castles was listed in the "Mario Mania" book.

For those who have never heard of this tome, it is worth it for the (then) history of Mario along with maps & secrets for every single SMW level.
