I'm not sure if it's the game or converter, But I've cleaned the cart and am still getting a "Scrambled" screen on my TV, I've reset it, and cleaned the cart, Still doing the same thing, Can you clean a converter with alchol aswell?, I noticed the famicom cart had a red marker on the pins..Is that the problem?..
I can take pics if necessary, The Ebay member had good feedback and I just purchased another game from him yesterday..

make sure the famicom cart is attached the convertor the correct way. on my convertor, the label faces the back of the toploader (facing down in a toaster)

You can clean the convertor with alchohol without any problems. Like chrisbid said make sure the famicom cart is facing the right direction, which is label down on all the ones I've used on a front loader. I'd also try to clean off that marker on the pins since that would give you problems trying to load the game.

To start off here's a pic of the red marker right on the bottom where you insert the cartridge, It will not come off either..Pic is kinda bright.

Turn the famicom game upside down. The label needs to face down, as in towards the bottom of the NES.

That famicom cart has labels on both sides?
Are you talking about the label that says its name or the back that says about it?
I've done both. The front label gets me a scrambled screen. The back label gets me a black screen and does nothing.

Well if you tried both and still no dice, I would think that the cart is the problem. Can you get a better pic of the RED marker on the pins?

It's not on the side pins. Just the bottom. Heres a pic:

It's probably just that it's still dirty. Keep in mind you've got four sets of contacts involved, so there are far more points of failure. Do you have any other Famicom games to test with it? Or other NES's to test it on?

I have two more famicom carts coming in. The seller told me he tested it before it was shipped and it worked, So i'm not sure. When I recieve the other two i'll test those out.

Bumping an old topic, I was wondering if someone has figured out how to solve this problem?
I recently started expanding my NES collection towards Famicom games and got my hands on NTDEC Famicom to NES converter. I bought Battle City for Famicom and that made the same scrambled mess as described on previous posts. I've just replaced to main pin connecter on my European NES (lock out removed) and also cleaned multiple times all the contactor surfaces on the game and the converter. So far nothing has helped and I've not been able to get it working even once. Cart and converter have been inserted correctly.
Any ideas how to fix this? Could it be that the lock out removal has something to do with this issue? :help:

I had a similar issue with a converter only it was not scrambled as bad. Turned out that even though the converter looked good one of internal solder connections was bad. I took a multimeter and tested each end for conductivity. Was kind of a pain but got it working. Converters are made pretty cheaply so that might be your issue.

It's probably the converter itself. I've come across several defective ones over the years. It could be a solder problem as mentioned above or it could be one or more of the traces are rusted through. Most of these are really poor quality.

The official NES-joint-01 convertor is a better alternative. It's a shame that they are pricy on eBay..
